Confirmed - Power Rangers S.P.D. Cast Not Invited for Super Megaforce Cameos
 

Now we're not 100% certain on this one, but we're calling it close enough to call. Today Brand Jay McLaren who played Jack the Red Ranger on Power Rangers S.P.D. responded to Fury Diamond stating that he was not invited for Super Megaforce.

In the tweets that followed, Chris Violette who played Sky Tate the Blue Ranger on Power Rangers S.P.D. joked about how Saban Brands had "dropped them like they're hot", and joked with other S.P.D. cast members about flying in to New Zealand anyways and just filming their own reunion.

We also know that Matt Austin who played Bridge the Green S.P.D. Power Ranger was not invited either. While the girls have yet to pipe in regarding their status, seeing as neither live in New Zealand, we just don't think Saban Brands will have invited any of them to attend.

As for John Tui, (Doggie Kruger, the Shadow Ranger on Power Rangers S.P.D. and Daggeron the Solaris Knight on Power Rangers Mystic Force), we have yet to hear confirmation from him either way but will follow up when we do.

Power Rangers S.P.D. is a beloved season by many fans. What are your thoughts on Saban Brands choosing not to honor their season, or the fans of that season, in the 20th Anniversary "celebration" of Power Rangers Super Megaforce? DISCUSS!

Considering there's a mecha directly based on Dekranger/SPD how could they not use the SPD rangers? I mean this is the most ridiculous attempt at an anniversary I've ever heard of. This is just stupid at this point. Saban should just stop now.

I hope John Tui at least agrees. Then they got both SPD and mystic force covered.

I'll repeat what I just said in the previous post: Unite all the fans and sue the crap outta Jonathan Tzachor for cheating us all out of a true 20th Anniversary celebration.

Son of a bitch. Super Megaforce is going to be an absolute mess. Can't wait to see how they try to explain all of the past Zords showing up with no returning Rangers. Yep. That'll be fun.

Sheesh...Here I was at school and all of the sudden we have confirmed this many cast members not returning? What is Saban exactly doing? What is their plan?! Is this one of those cast members are lieing to us and we are going to be surprise in Super Megafroce?! ....I hope so, Because this is becoming underwhelming.

I wonder if Gokaiger got this much hate before it aired.

There was some disappointment from Western fans who fell in love with certain actors/actresses from shows 20+ years ago who were either retired, not interested, or deceased. However they did get some of their favorites (Jetman's Black Ranger), as well as a bunch of recent era cameos and tribute episodes.

From what I can tell, if they're gathering all these actors for cameos that are filmed at the same time, I bet it's for the ending sequence where the past Rangers get their keys (akin to Gokaiger's final episode credit scene).

Looks like the only actual "tribute" episodes are (gag) Samurai and Jungle Fury, because that's all we've really seen thus far in terms of actors present before the cameo filming date (Jayden, Casey)

From what I understand, Gokaiger getting all the returning actors that it did was in no small part effected by the horrible tsunami/earthquake/nuclear meltdown travesty that happened in the first quarter of 2011. Many actors from Super Sentai's past posted messages on social media outlets to cheer up the children of Japan, and some of them went as far as to appear in the show and movies. For them, at this horrible time, the joy of the children mattered more than their day jobs.
It also probably didn't hurt that they didn't need to be flown across the world.

On second thought, I remember reading a casting note needing TONS of extras that can wear lycra. Can't remember when filming was to happen, but it would be neat if it was for new footage of the Legend War with our returning heroes.

It didn't actually. Because long before the show aired they'd already gotten confirmation that a ton of actors would return. And the show did so well in fact they added more cameos as it went along. The men who played Ginga Red & Bull Black started up a twitter account after their cameo episode. They let other past actors know about the anniversary show who were unaware. And then they came out of the woodwork and contacted Toei about coming in for cameos no matter how brief they were because those actors love that franchise.

Toei added several new episodic plots revolving around past rangers because of this. In the original plan for the series, only the sentais which bestowed mecha power ups to the Gokaigers would be featured. But as a result of the actors contacting them for cameos as well as the astounding support from fans they added more and more guests.

The difference is that for Power Ranger actors they were treated like crap for the most part, by Saban and then Disney. Even if the money wasn't an issue a lot of them don't feel obligated to come back because of their bad experiences. In the case of Erin Cahill it's because the show is non-union. The US actors have legitimate concerns not to return, but Saban or possibly Tzachor are also really shafting them.

Considering the first two accessory mecha from Gokaiger are MagiDragon and PatStriker, I hope John Tui is exempt from this.
And Nic Sampson.
And Rick Medina Jr.
And the duo of Milo Cawthorne and Olivia Tennet.

Hell, THE TOYS ARE ALL FROM DISNEY'S RUN, MR. TZACHOR! You do remember Bandai is a part of production, right? They have a say and even helped Forever Red. Even if it was at the sacrifice of a badass final battle.

So what is the point of doing an anniversary series?

I'm guessing they could just skip it, it depends how they're going to run the toyline.

With RPM set in a parallel universe and SPD set in the future, they would have to jump the shark big time to fit it in.

Can't believe a year out we're in a position where most people are writing it off. Although, since Saban got the franchise back I'm struggling to give a fuck anymore. Samurai ruined Power Rangers for me, and I've watched a fair bit of operation overdrive

Time Force's cast is from a thousand years in the future. Sure we'll probably not see a single actor return, but Saban has handled a massive time difference before.

after seeing all thes actors not returning my money is on them just dubbing voices over for past rangers.

I feel like Saban is doing so much damage to the franchise with this anniversary season. What could have been a celebration and reawakening of the series is instead turning into a marathon of pissing off anyone ever involved, plus the fans, with Saban's handling of the Gokaiger adaptation.

Some of the past rangers didn't even receive an invitation to pay their own way to come to NZ to be essentially background?! I've never heard a more insulting slap in the face and show of disrespect for the past ranger actors. I just think that's insane. Especially consider the underwhelming response by the actors Saban did invite, Saban could have saved itself a lot of grief and ill will and made a more impressive anniversary by just sending out a general invitation to anyone who has ever been a main character in the show.

This is just another reason why I have no respect for Power Rangers. It is so mismanaged. I've been converted to authentic Sentai.

At the rate this is going, I don't think I'm going to want to see what they do to Go-Busters, or any other series. Not until I hear someone else is at the reigns.
Samurai was a joke.
Megaforce has not wowed me.
Super Megaforce seems to be just a mess.
And Saban currently can't get his head past MMPR.
Has he really forgotten everything past season 3? Has he forgotten that some of the best stuff they did was when the show finally went Union?
I hate being a "whiny fan boy" but this is just inexcusable.

I've already started working on a Kyoryuger adaptation. In fact, I might even take it to Saban for production just to make sure Jonathan Tzachor doesn't tarnish Kyoryuger's legacy (note how I added "legacy").

SPD was by far my favorite season and had one of the best casts in recent PR history. Saban, you are dead to me.

When Disney cancelled Power Rangers, it saddened me because I thought it was better to have a terrible show I didn't watch than to not have Power Rangers coming out with new episodes at all. It's been a constant in my life since I was a little kid and it was comforting to know a new generation of fans were following the franchise even if I wasn't. Honestly, though, now I'm not so sure. Perhaps it's better to have the show go out than to stick around while fans' hopes continue to be ruined and potential of a great adaptation wasted.

Jesus. Just because the majority of the adult fans aren't happy doesn't mean the show is going to be cancelled.

Maybe it's just time for those not happy to move on. I'm surprised that people are this upset, based on previous track records in the past. Nothing Saban is doing here is anything new, but as children we didn't care too much. Guess what the children think these days?

The formula works for Saban. It's not going to change when he can continue to make money off it.

I don't think anyone is seriously thinking the show will end up cancelled. I do think Jonathan Tzachor is the WRONG choice for Executive Producer, only because Power Rangers has so much more room to grow, both in terms of overall quality (let's face it - it really does talk down to its audience, both kids AND adults) and overall direction.

The formula may now be "Copy/paste Sentai and translate", grab actors to run around and shout morphing calls before using source footage, and staying within or under budget, and that will work for the time being. But even Disney saw Power Rangers was becoming stale and wanted to get out of it. I mean, this is the same company that wanted to increase viewership to the "Boys 6-11" category, so it sold off Power Rangers back to Saban and went out and BOUGHT MARVEL COMICS AND STAR WARS.

Sometimes a shot of fresh air can revitalize a franchise. Look at Transformers back in the late 90's early 2000's - they went from "re-releasing" all their 80's stuff with no success, to going buckwild and doing "realistic beast Transformers" with Beast Wars and it took off. They tried to take it further with "Beast Machines" and it fell apart - so they went drastic again and imported "Car Robots", which was realistic vehicles (first time since early 90s) and the property exploded, enough that they were able to shop a movie and now it's one of the largest franchises in the world.

If a cartoon about cars and planes that turn in to robots can have a BILLION dollar worldwide movie, I don't see any reason why a a live-action show about teenagers who can transform in to super heroes piloting giant transforming robots can't have something better than an appeal to 5 year olds, and not shooting any higher than the 5 year old demographic.

thing is they arent catering the adult fandom its a childrens show not some 20+ show where we see teenagers with attitude kicking butt for the life of their own.if people arent happy how they are handeling the anniversary just deal with it.bickering and telling "OH SABAN YOUR DEAD TO ME" or any other nonsense just makes us look like greedy and whiny fans like a child who wants a certain item but cant get it.if the actors werent contacted oh wells cant really blame them now can we.do realize transformers is about cars and robots power rangers is a group of colored super heroes with robots.most people go for the cars than the group of colored heroes cause its a more bolder and wider audience while power rangers isnt

if the actors are getting SAG paychecks its personally not even worth it cause that doesnt even help you get a plane ticket to NZ.would you really like to lose a grand or more just to film a 2-10 min cameo and go "ok thats it your done thanks for your time".many of the actors have other things to do and they are going at it from the financial end of the thing.they want to please the fans but losing money just for that is not realy gonna cut it.

There is a very big difference between saying the show WILL be cancelled and saying the show is BETTER OFF cancelled.

the thing thats frustrating is there are so many that just plain wereny invited. i have no issue with ones like steve who cant afford it. but ones like rhett that want to do it an were told no. thats the problem

KB, I agree with everything you say here. However, my wording was incorrect in that I wasn't saying that people are saying the show will be cancelled but that their suggestion for it to be cancelled because they think it's the best course of action since the very minority's wants aren't met is a ridiculous notion.

Also, I'm not justifying anything for anyone. Maybe after all these years, I'm just tired of our fandom as a whole. Not just the whiners and complainers, or the people who think the best course of action is something better suited for the fanfiction section of a seedy internet forum, but primarily, the fact that we keep telling Saban what we want, stuff we all agree on... and it's getting shot down, left and right.

The thing that frustrates me the most, is that we have all these people hopeful on something that, quite frankly were hopeful based on a completely different show and was counting on Gokaiger's "awesomeness" to make Super Megaforce incredible, and the second issue is that we put a lot of stock and faith in something we haven't seen yet and most "won't watch now" because of hearsay. People in the fandom have called me a pessimist before, and I'm really not. I'm more of a "wait and see" guy, and while not exactly optimistic, I consider myself to be more of a realist, based on Saban's track record.

But why? Because you say so? Because you're not happy? That's highly illogical. When the show stops making money, that's when it's time to pull the plug.

Only Samurai? Wow, you must not have watched Ninja Storm, SPD, and Mystic Force. After those three (DT was good, thankfully), I was pretty much done with PR, especially after 2 episodes of OO. I never saw anything afterwards beyond the first episode of JF (which was as bad as OO) until Saban came back, but only watched the third episode of Samurai and then the first two to MegaForce.

SPD and Mystic Force were two of the best.

While I do plan to give SPD another try in the future since I kind of wrote it off because I did not care for Deka (well, outside of Disco 70's Sentai Reject Skeletor), MF was down right dreadful. The acting was piss poor. The characters one dimensional and lame. I hate hate HATE Udonna and the blonde dumbass. I hate how they just threw Rita into it as being as the reformed white witch without any explanation or backstory, it just was that was because of the actress (and what was the point of showing that scene anyway?), not to mention they did not even get Goodson to do the voice.

I think Rita was kept as a tribute to Machiko Soga, who passed away in between Magiranger airing her footage and Mystic Force getting up to it.
