Best and Worst Movies of 2013
As we're nearing the halfway point of 2013, what have been the best and worst movies you've seen so far?
|
My best would be Star Trek and Wreck It Ralph. I have a soft spot of Oz the Great and Powerful too.
Worst I've seen this year would probably be GI Joe, but even then I wouldn't call that outright awful. Just disappointing. |
Best this year for me have been Iron Man 3 and Star Trek Into Darkness.
I actually don't have a worst list, as The Last Stand and Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters were actually enjoyable. |
My favorite movie so far this year has been Rurouni Kenshin ( yes , technically it came out in Japan last year , but I got to see it this year )
I've never watched the anime , but I now feel compelled too. Iron man 3 & G.I.Joe were good , but forgettable. Evil dead didn't leave a lasting impression on me. Die Hard was crap on a stick I'm hoping Man of steel and pacific rim can turn my luck around. |
My favourite film of this year is probably Spring Breakers and no not just for the obvious reasons but certainly for those too :lol
My least favourite is probably Aftershock, not only is it the worst film I've seen this year but it's quite possibly one of the worst films I've seen in my entire life. I hated this film. |
The only good movie I've seen this year was Wreck it Ralph...
...Hell, the only movie I've seen this year was Wreck it Ralph. |
I've only watched 3 films released in 2013 so far... That's pretty poor but I guess January cinema releases are only just being released as DVD/Blurays.
Anyway, my 3 then have to be: Django Unchained (released January over here) Iron Man 3 Wreck it Ralph (released Feb here) So if you want to be really pedantic, I've seen one film that was released so far in 2013 =p That should change over the next few months though =D |
I'd say the best films I've seen so far this year are:
Iron Man 3 Rurouni Kenshin I have a feeling Star Trek Into Darkness will be up there along with Pacific Rim (hopefully!) and maybe Man of Steel (though I have my doubts about Zack Snyder pulling it off). Movies I found were good but not great: G.I. Joe: Retaliation Last Stand Movies I found that were just okay: It's a Good Day to Die Hard Jack Reacher Haven't seen any real stinkers yet but there's still 7 months to go... |
I keep a list of what I see throughout the year and rank them as I go along, so here that is:
Good The Place Beyond the Pines Stoker The Great Gatsby Upstream Color Mud Disconnect Pain & Gain Side Effects Mama Okay Star Trek Into Darkness Iron Man 3 Oz, The Great and Powerful Masquerade Evil Dead Oblivion The Lords of Salem Bleh Trance GI Joe: Retaliation Broken City Gangster Squad Texas Chainsaw 3D |
I'm adding Furious 6 (a.k.a. "Die Hard on Wheels") on my Best list.
|
Gonna try to watch Furious 6 next week., but I still find Tokyo Drift to be the best of the F&F movies.
|
I'd say what my best is but ZeorangerV might get mad and try to kill again. :lol Anyway, Life of Pi was pretty good and I enjoyed seeing From Up on Poppy Hill again.
As for the worst I honestly haven't seen any bad movies this year so I can't comment. |

Best Movies:
Star Trek Into Darkness Decent Movies: Iron Man 3 Terrible Movies: Evil Dead GI Joe Retaliation Hansel & Gretel Gangster Squad Oz The Great Gatsby |
My best is indisputably Star Trek into Darkness.
I don't watch that many movies so I don't have enough to make a worst yet. I don't even have a least favorite so far. |

I'm kinda behind on the flicks.
But, uh. Out of what I watched this year? Django Unchained was pretty good, as well as Hotel Transylvania. Wreck-It Ralph sucked. I have no soul. Get over it. =D |

Finally watched The Dark Knight Rises, and as such, I am counting it for this thread. It was a good movie. Not the best of the franchise but a good ending to Nolan's vision. There were some problems I had. The random time jumps were one. So was Talia's sudden arrival. Though, weirdly, Bane's voice wasn't one of them. I liked his voice in this. It made him see a little to gleeful sometimes, but it worked. Also like to thank Anne Hathaway for playing a Catwoman who wasn't a complete whore who spent more screentime licking herself then she did doing something. Looking at you Berry.
All in all it was good. Something I'm glad I watched but not something I'd go out of my way to see again. If it's on TV then yea. But The Dark Knight will always be my favorite, and it has absolutely everything to do with Heath Ledger. Has anyone seen After Earth? Is it has bad as the Box Office totals make it seem? |

Especially considering slutty Catwoman appears in comics like crazy... |

Anne's Catwoman though was what she was supossed to be. She's strong, fierce, takes what she wants. But also has a heart. Like at the end of the movie when Batman gives her Clean Slate, a computer virus that can erase you from every database known to man. She doesn't run and leave him to fend for himself. She turns the BatPod around and goes back to help him and save people. That's the Catwoman I know and love. Even Michelle's Catwoman in Batman Returns was a little to Dominatrix Slut for my liking. |

Also, that's seriously how they end the movie? With A supervirus that magically deletes Batman from every database in the world ever? Seriously? |

Roland Dagget absorbed one of the companies working on it and used it to lure her to take a job where she had to secure Wayne's Fingerprints. He lied, Batman stole it from Dagget at somepoint, and offered it to if she helped him take down Bane. She agreed. Towards the end he gives it to her with the promise she uses the Batpod's firepower to blow open a blocked tunnel and help people escape Gotham. She agrees, takes it, and opens the tunnel. Then has a change of heart and comes back. The end of the movie is much better than that. |
Ah. That's good. I was a little afraid that the ending was somewhat of a cop-out.
I might check it out now. |

To which I say: Better than Batman and Robin. One thing that did take me out of the movie though was The Bat, and that's just because of how my mind works. I spent a good thirty minutes staring at it with the movie paused trying to figure out how in the hell something like that even flies. The Tumbler I'll give you, that could happen. The Bat though makes my brain hurt. |

If you're of the Nolan crowd who like more brooding, slower more character and story focused superhero films you will HATE Man of Steel. |
Better than Batman And Robin, but is it better than Batman Returns? :p
Anyway, it's Batman. That's how it flies. And before you attack me for resorting to that excuse, I want you to know that I loathe the "It's Batman. That's why [Blank]" excuse, but sometimes writers will literally resort to it with no other reasoning beyond that. Quote:

And yes, yes it is. Even without the constant epic of Christopher Walken. |

The fighting is incredible and shit all in the same time. I've been waiting for a true superhuman clash like from the comics and it doesn't disappoint, this is what the live action DBZ movie should have been like. That said CGI is still nowhere near there yet and a lot of it looks very artificial and more like a game cutscene than a movie in places. It doesn't help that the high-def cameras we have now expose the seams a lot bigger than they were probably intended to be. |

Metropolis is flattened near enough by the end. They fight all the way into space and back down again. Throw trains at each other. Each power has an artistic way of being realised. Zod kicks SO MUCH ASS because he was literally bred for battle so where as Supes needed his whole life to master his powers, it only took Zod a matter of hours.
