Hikōnin Sentai Akibaranger to Premeire This April
 

Along with the 36th Super Sentai Series, Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters, Toei plans to launch a second live action Sentai series this year titled: Hikōnin Sentai Akibaranger. The story will follow three protagonists who live in Akihabara's Electric Town "among other otaku". The trio learn of plans to destroy their neighborhood by an evil entity, so they become warriors to defend their town.

People working on this show include Kamen Rider's (Director) Ryuta Tazaki, Tiger and Bunny's (director/character designer) Keiichi Satou, Spice and Wolf's (writer) Naruhisa Arakawa and Ghost in the Shell's (composer) Kenji Kawai. You can check out the official site by clicking here.

2 sentai series going on at the same time maybe?

I have a feeling this will be kinda comedic compared to Gobusters. After all, it's about Otaku (basically, the japanese word for nerd) trying to defend Akihabara (basically, an Otaku paradise)

Kamen Rider director + Tiger & Bunny director + Gokaiger writer + Kawai Kenji = Akibaranger

Ultraman had a clean freak who transformed brushing his teeth, Kamen Rider had a Sommelier, about time Sentai had a parody of itself. :)

I kinda wanna see this. I did love Kamen Rider G, so an official unofficial Sentai sounds like fun.

I may have missed something but is this going to be animated? I assumed since it has Tiger & Bunny's character designer on board. If it is, I am more psyched because I always used to say "I wanna see how Power Rangers would look animated."

I think all reports are pointing towards live action. Either way it sounds pretty interesting!

From the silhouettes look like Animated stuff, not live action.

Definetly sounds interesting, but I'm betting that this show is going use both Live Action and Animated Footage; with Tazaki directing the Live-Action Portions and Satou directing the Animated Portions. There's probably some overlap there too. But then again, Satou could be just doing suit and monster designs. I've gotta say though, I'm probably the most pumped about Kenji Kawai's involvement, because the man KNOWS how to write music. In my opinion, he's up there with Yoko Kanno.

LOVE me some Yoko Kanno! Not familiar with Kawai, so if you think he's in that same league, then my excitement just went up a notch or two.

I really hope this is comedic and animated, as it seems it'll be. I adored Tentai Senshi Sunred, so anything in that vein will be cool with me.

Wow, this is kind of...confusing! Two Sentai series at once? I'm open to innovation, so I'll be looking forward to see where they go with this.

The question I have is, will this be numbered among the "official" Sentai? Or will they be a separate entity altogether? Interesting.

It should be exciting to have 2 Super Sentai programs on the same time. The only thing I worry about is the budget, and resources stretched too thin.

Right I hope it does not eat up the special effects department.

Has this ever been done in any long-running Toku series before? I know little about other series besides Sentai so I'm wondering if there's a precedent.

Definitely not looking anything like a traditional Sentai. In fact, the silhouettes kind of remind me of Gatchaman.

I'm just staring at the Ishinomori scarves and making "squee" noises, to be honest.

*edit* did what many of you probably did earlier, but translated the page with Google and hovering over the logo and the block of text there was some English text on the akibaranger unofficial site.
