6th Ranger Preferences
 

Hey, being relatively new to Sentai (But not to PR lol), I've had a couple thoughts as of recently.
This one being about 6th (Rather, Extra) rangers.

I was wondering 2 primary questions.
The first is: When it comes to colors, is there a color you prefer to see over others, and a color you hate seeing? I, for example, love seeing Black as an extra Ranger color, while Silver has always fallen flat with me.

The second is: Do you prefer the extra ranger to be in the general same aesthetic, or to be wildly different/armored? Like the differences between the Green Zyuranger and the team is minimal (The gold shield, really) and the differences between Black Bull/Magna Defender and the rest of Gingaman/Lost Galaxy team or Gosei Knight and the other Goseigers.

I like when they follow the theme more. Like Go-Onger and Gokaiger. I don't have a problem with the different ones though.

My favorite was actually Gekiranger. I loved Violet Wolf and White Rhino. Mostly though it had nothing to do with color, though I love a Purple Ranger, it had to do with the helmet designs. Gekiranger had some of the best helmet designs I've seen in a while.

I much prefer the ones that follow the theme, and I've gone off gold and silver in a big way lately. I was hoping Go-Busters was going to do a Liveman/Go-Onger and add black and green to the mix.

There were rumours that black would have been a female to, which would have been great to see.

An all female sentai group would be a nice change too.

I don't care, I just do not like how the sixth ranger will come in, be all bad ass, whoop ass, and then 4 episodes later get his ass handed to him by nobodies. I miss the days when the 6th ranger was a part time ranger. He was there when necessary, gone for several episodes, then back, and gone again.

I like coherent costumes so i would have to go with that. As for color, I like seeing black but green is ok when done right AKA Green dragon ranger. other than that I don't mind.

Well, by "Nobodies", do you mean the main Rangers?

But I get what you're saying. However, because the only series I've seen where they did something like that was MMPR, I can't quite say "I miss the days" since I think the only other series where something similar happened was maybe Dino Thunder and the Drago Ranger (I'm not sure how it was handled in Abaranger with AbareKiller).
It would be cool to see an Extra Ranger act like that again, though.

But I'm still curious about how you feel for Extra Rangers, color and aesthetic wise.

Truth be told, I never liked Green as an Extra Ranger color, like for Dragon Ranger or Shurikenger (Or whatever the Green Samurai Ranger's name was in Japan).

Nobodies just mean the Monster of the Week.

And no, ZyuRanger, DaiRanger, MegaRanger, CarRanger, OhRanger, and Gingaman did it. It wasn't really until GaoRanger that the 6th ranger became a joke outside of a few series.

There was a specific reason why I named the American series :p
Though, thinking about it, Lost Galaxy and, ironically, Wild Force did do something similar with their 6ths, with the Magna Defender and the Lunar Wolf Ranger.

The colors of gold and silver are getting used way too much, way to often.

Magiranger/Mystic Force had a Gold.
Bakuranger/Operation Overdrive had a Silver.
Go-Onger/RPM had both a Silver and a Gold.
Shinkenger/Samurai had a Gold.
Gokaiger had a Silver who had a Gold mode.

In between that we've had what ... White twice (Gekiranger, Goseiger) and Violet.

Yeah it's time for something new than Green/Gold/Silver/White.

I like a mysterious introduction, like we saw with the Power Rangers adaption of OhRanger (Zeo) ... where we don't know who it is, but they're here and helping. A similar storyline from Abaranger/Dino Thunder where the White Ranger/Abarekiller was unknown for an amount of time.

Tired of the mentor being a Ranger.

Gekiranger did break the mold hard with GekiViolet :lol

Anyway, for mentors being rangers, while it is a little tired, it does make sense.

Also, what about Rangers sharing colors? Like TimeRed and TimeFire, or the Crimson and Navy rangers in Hurrikanger/Ninja Storm?

I don't mind 6th Rangers sharing colors ... but I don't now how it would work since Sentai has really pushed this idea that red=leader. Having two reds would really screw up that mentality now. And while that would be a GOOD thing, I just don't know how well they'd handle it, or how Saban would handle porting the storyline over.

Though I guess in Dino Thunder, Tommy/Black Ranger really was the "leader" and Connor/Red Ranger was more or less the "guy who runs in first and gets the power ups".

Wasn't Tommy essentially leader while he was the White Ranger and Rocky was Red Ranger too?

While 6th Rangers sharing colors has been rare, I didn't really like it.

If anything, I'd have called Gosei Knight a silver (or gold I guess - both colours are the most prominent other than black), which hammers the point home even more :lol

Gosei Knight wasn't actually a Ranger, though. He was like Sentinal in Operation Overdrive. They never morphed/henshin'd, or anything. So I don't think he counts... so leave him alone.

I don't really care too much, as long as they're not freaking silver again. Also it's about time we had an official orange ranger, just to complete the spectrum of colors.

No, just... just no. I can't imagine how horrible that'd look. Like a giant monster-fighting creamsicle.

Sorry, there are a ton of UPS's, which one are you talking about?

If he didn't count, he wouldn't have a ranger key or be part of Gold mode :p

Aren't Dekaswan and Battle Cossack orange?

Good point. I did like Dekaswan, always hoped she'd get more play on SPD.
