The King Of Iron Thread Discussion- All things Tekken!
Tekken rules. I want D-Arts figures of the Kazuya, et al. Story is awesome. MUSIC is awesome. Play-style is awesome. Easy to pick up, challenging to master.

I could never get into Tekken. I don't know why.

Yes, please, thank you. Love me some Tekken! Favorite character is still Jun, I could devastate as her. Least favorite though is Jack, very limited, he has three basic movies and is very easy to interupt.

I never got into Tekken, either, but I really like Street Fighter X Tekken. Don't know much about the characters, but I used Lili as my anchor character. She's pretty awesome.

I think the lack luster reception of the game is also why we have not seen a thing for Tekken VS SF. The sad thing is, SFxTK actually has a great translation of the Tekken characters to the Street Fighter engine. I was very impressed. |

Tekken is pretty much the odd middle child in the three big 3D fighter franchises (Virtua Fighter, and DOA included). The reputation of it being "stiff" for beginners is well-documented, as is the accusation of it being just a juggle game amongst the more veteran players. I've been playing Tekken since T5 and this was AFTER SoulCalibur 2 which is in my eyes at least the best in Soul series (oh how far its fallen). I hated it at first. Balancing arguments are a dime a dozen when fighting games are involved. Things like "scrubbing" (repeating the same cheap move over and over again) and "keep away grab" or "keep away poke" are all valid strategies in any fighting game. its just how they players feel about winning using such tactics or losing to such tactics. Anyway, played a decent Hwoarang from T5 through Dark Resurrection and all the way to T6. At T6, I started to really LEARN the game. Things like Frame rate, Just Frame inputs, dancing, throw escapes, punishes, fuzzy guarding....etc etc. I was pretty intermediate but never a "pro". I've beaten my share of good challengers but I still job to a scrubby Law, Paul or Eddy. After Bloodline Rebellion and the introduction of Lars however, I kind of dropped the game. The character and the play style of Lars really annoyed me. This was a character built from scratch to give beginners this "Cool" feeling for nailing flashy combos for little effort. Like Leo but Leo was a lot more safer and grounded. I was also annoyed by how Bounce became the most critical aspect of the game. When T6 came out people were raging hard about the....Rage Mode thinking that it ruined the game. Anyway...outside of the games I have very little Tekken merch but I feel in love with the Tekken Bishoujo Christie Monteiro. Its rare that any dark-skinned/black character gets made in that line and Christie is pretty hot so I picked her up followed by a Bishoujo Jaycee which is probably my fave girly figure of all time. If Zafina gets made I'll probably grab her as well. |

Soul Blade and up through the latest installment of Soul Calibur have so much more than Tekken offers. Soul Calibur is the only fighting series really where I don't get bored midway through. And for the same reason I loved Ehrgeiz. Both games offer a robust adventure map to go along with the standard story and fight modes. Ehrgeiz (The spiritual successor of Tobal No. 1), especially, had a wonderful roleplay section. Where you went through a dungeon room to room. And what I loved about it was it was much like Dark Cloud and DC2, where the dungeons were completely random. So you never knew what would happen. Where Soul Blade on up the list of Calibur games had an outstanding adventure mode in itself. Where you'd move through the map and unlocked special characters and different weapon sets, which then helped you go through the bog-standard story mode they all have. And it's something I miss. Soul also gave her much more customization options. The latter games even let you create characters, and moves, so it was a truely involving experience. It was one of the reasons I loved that one Mortal Kombat game to, who's name escapes me. But onward. I love Tekken. It'll remain one of my all-time favorites. But you'll never convince me it's better than Soul Blade or any of the Coul Calibur games. |

And seriously. Jun. |
I loved Tekken up to 3 (my favourite one). 4 and 5 were okay but didn't wow me like the others did. Not played any since as I don't own a PS3 and I don't think the 3DS game will do Tekken justice.
As for Soul Caliber...Soul Blade is still the best in the series. The Caliber ones have more to them, but Soul Blade is great even with how dated it is. |

I played a lot of Tekken 2-3. Didn't play Tekken 1 as much but I respect it and it was the 1st one I played. Didn't play 4 much, nor 6(the load time is RIDICULOUS on PS3). I played a lot of 5, on PS2, DR on PS3, and the PSP port of DR. The PSP version of 5DR is excellent, and the PSP version of 6 is actually better on PSP than it is on PS3.
So far, the best next-gen Tekken(though non-canonical) is actually Tekken Tag 2. Bowl mode is gone but it is still fun as hell. It loads a hell of a lot faster than 6, has the biggest roster of ANY Tekken game, and has returning faves like Jun and Kunimitsu. I LOVE THOSE 2! Especially Kunimitsu. Unique fighting style, tricky to play as well as fight against. Music is great but there's a bit too much dub-step for my liking. Wish there were more item/clothing options as in 5DR. Or maybe there are and the ones for 5DR just look better? I dunno. In a way the customization reminds me of Soul Calibur IV's customization system. Given that they're made by the same company maybe this isn't so surprising. Tamashii ought to make D-Arts figures of these characters. Kazuya might be the most unique fighting game protagonist ever created. He's not exactly good, he is a good natured person who turns bad due to childhood trauma, and turns even worse once given more power. There's some good in him but he doesn't go towards self redemption, he embraces the power. |
Yea about that. Can someone please explain to me a few things?
Devil Kazuya Angel Ogre |

Angel is the foil to the Devil Gene. As to whether its genetically inherited like the Devil Gene I'm not sure but it seems that only the ladies of the Kazama family have it. Which is why Jin is seen as a "half-breed" of sorts. |

Tekken Revolution is coming on Tuesday exclusively to PSN, it's free to play, has 8 characters, and you can level up your characters. Apparently Harada wanted it free to play to begin with hence why there is no 360 version.
I think it could be fun. |
