Sentai You forget happened?
 

So much discussion about how BAD Goseiger is.

Has there ever been a sentai thats so...unmemorable you sometimes have to remind your self it happened?

For me that would be Boukanger, I tried SO HARD to get into the series, I was in Japan for 2 weeks during it's run....I went to the roadshow, and the PR adaptation had a 2 parter we all HAD to watch... so it really says something when I see boukanger images and Mecha and they look almost...new to me.

Because the series made ZERO impression on me.

It made such a bad impression on you, you forget it's real name :P

For me it was Fiveman

I saw a couple of episodes of Turboranger when the Tagalog dub first aired, and I lost interest due to its hokey premise. Will revisit it later this year once I download the fansubs.

I'm proud to say I haven't forgotten anything! ...Just that some details might be hazier than others :lol.

Dude, I love Boukenger lol! But for me it would be Goseiger, I only watched 5 episodes and just gave up after that. I was the same for Go-Onger, Magiranger and Gekiranger. But I eventually came around on those series.

Hokey? I mean.. It's sentai :P

I loved Fiveman.. It was amazing stuff.

Sure, many Super Sentai titles have their hokey moments, but what do fairies have to do with giant cars? And yeah, I had considered Turboranger to be a turn-off because at the time, I was used to Bioman and Maskman.

For srs, Goggle V. Every time I see a lineup of all the Sentai teams, I go "Wait. Who are those guys?"
That's the definition of forgettable, right? :p

Well, that was my skepticism over 20 years ago, which is why I'll be revisiting this series.

I don't hate on it but sometimes I forget Fiveman happened.

Even though I enjoyed it, I forget Fiveman because it is talked about so little in the fandom.

Goseiger. No question about it.

I barely watch that show but I just couldn't watch it because I couldn't understand the concept of 5 Angel ranger and I true to find Gosei Knight-Focus episode but I don't know how!

Kyoryuger. I know it controversial choice but Kyoryuger doesn't feel a "Team" show but feel like Naruto. Riku Sanjo the head writer didn't understand the concept of Team. What Toei was thinking about hired Riku Sanjo without knowing Riku Sanjo wasn't a fan when he was a kid. Riku Sanjo's favorite character is Daigo Kiryu. He put TOO MUCH focus on DAIGO!!!! anyway Kyoryuger is not memorable Sentai show but will be remember as Daigo Sentai Kingranger. That I gonna to call it from now on. DAIGO SENTAI KINGRANGER!!!!

Fiveman. Lame concept. Teacher. Really? Toei?! No want to watch a show with Teachers as warriors.

I sometimes like to think that Zyuranger never happened, or Kyoryuger and maybe by the end ToQger.

Funny. No! I talk about Kyoryu Red! I call Kyoryuger "Daigo Sentai Kingranger" because he got a lot of Focus Episode, Wields too many Mecha, Get his armor and stole every scene with Other Kyoryuger

I keep forgetting that Turboranger happened since it doesn't jump at you like Carranger and Go-Onger.

Dairanger's another since only most of it got ported over and the series never really seemed like one I'd watch at my own leisure.

Dynaman and TurboRanger.

Dairanger was pretty damn forgettable as most of the show had zero character focus or plot, and story developments felt like they were pencilled in last minute. Say what you want about Kyoryuger, but it had some memorable action sequences which at least filled some of the gap left behind by the lack of tangible plot and characterisation. All I remember about Dairanger's fights is the way everyone would blow smoke out of their fists because....reasons.

But then I largely hate sentai as a whole, and my favourite sentai is Goseiger, so I'm probably unlikely to gel with anyone else in this thread.

So you must be Kamen Rider's Fanboy! Interesting but why you watch Sentai in first place?

Not a fan boy but I think it's the better franchise overall yeah.

I was mainly drawn into sentai with that big purist boom that happened a few years back now when the shows were suddenly readily available for every ass hat and a blog.

Kyoryuger had memorable action? Locke, that's the funniest post I've seen from you.
Kyoryu's action was so shit it was barely above Sun Vulcan's.

Really? I thought it was suitably big and flashy for a superhero show, I especially loved how much personality the Rangers were allowed to have in and out of the suits even if they lacked tangible characterisation.

Kyoryuger had Kouichi Sakamoto in charge for action, that should be enough reason for it to be awesome. That guy may be a pervert, but he's brilliant when it comes to action sequences.

I wish I could forget about Sun Vulcan. A series with no female rangers, horrible storyline, and practically no relation to Denjiman despite being written as a direct sequel should not exist.

He was. On both counts. Every time a girl spun, which was usually Yayoi and Ami, it would slow done. Chimes would ring. And the camera would get in nice and tight. And again during Kyoryuger v Go-Busters with Go-Bust Yellow and Ami dressed as schoolgirls.

I swear that scene existed just for him.

There's no Sentai series I forget happening, but I kind of wish I could forget Miss America. That'd be nice.

I can't really say that i forgot. But in my head Sentai is Goranger , J.A.K.Q. -------------------HUGE GAP---------------- then Jetman to now.

I have a weird disinterest in any Sentai between J.A.K.Q and Jetman. I am not really sure why.

Minus Liveman, which I really enjoy, I do too also find showa productions pretty forgettable. I come to these shows for the action, and those minuscule dated effects make it painful for me. I know they're classics and should be appreciated for what we have today, but appreciation and adoration - even toleration - are different things.

See, that is where I have to disagree with you (as usual). I would rather have dated practical effects that have not aged well over fake looking CGI explosions and mecha that deters between blocky toys and disproportionate CGI. At least back in the 80s and 90s it was always block toys.

CGI should be there to enhance the experience, not take it over.

That is an anomaly of an example though as Zyuranger was a HUGE leap in mecha over everything that came before it, I wouldn't dare attempt to compare sentai before Zyu to it mech wise, in the way I wouldn't dare compare the pre-Gobus mech action to Go-Busters either.

Yeah, a lot of the mecha action in shows before Zyuranger feels like an after thought. It takes, what? Like 8 episodes or so for Liveman's mecha battle after they form LiveRobo to actually change up the choreography.

And that's not to mention that a lot of the mecha filming itself just sucked back then before Zyuranger. Most of the time there isn't much of an attempt made to sell the illusion of these things being giants. I feel this is a huge shame in Turboranger since those last few enemies, including the main enemy himself, have some fantastic designs and deserved better battles.

At best, 80s Sentai was very inconsistent. You had stuff like this, which just looks like two guys in suits on a beach, and then stuff like this, where they go out of their way to build a kickass prop.

Though I will say, poor quality CGI is just as bad because of how visible good CGI is in movies, so this stuff instantly looks bad rather than just ages bad. One of the best instances of CGI I've seen in toku was the first two seconds or so of Decade doing the Ryuki Final Form Rider for the first time. As he transforms into the dragon, it's animated nicely and well textured and then the very next scene...it's like they got lazy and realized how close the deadline was. The Rescue Fire stuff was really good as well, for a TV budget, the machines are consistently animated to a pretty good level, have a nice amount of texture on them and don't feel all...janky.

You're missing out on some really great shows like Bioman, Changeman, and Flashman. And some decent shows in Maskman, Liveman, and Fiveman.

That's because the mecha is really just there to sell toys and that is it.
