Ultimate Ranger Team Tournament - Pink Division Round 2
 

Let’s play a game: The Gokaiger adaptation isn’t season two of Megaforce, it’s a brand new series with a brand old cast. The six Rangers are all returning characters from previous Ranger teams, gathered together to face off against the most powerful evil ever. But which six Rangers? That’s where this tournament comes in.

We’re going to cast this team with the very best Red Ranger, very best Pink Ranger, very best Blue Ranger, very best Yellow Ranger, very best Grack/Bleen Ranger, and very best Sixth Ranger.

The current team consists of:

Red Ranger: Carter Grayson
Yellow Ranger: Lily Chilman
Blue Ranger: TJ Johnson

The rules are simple: the Rangers of each color fight it out to see which one stands at the top of their personal section of the rainbow. The winners will be determined by popular vote, feel encouraged to explain your choices to help sway the undecided. Fights are all-out brawls – any power-up or weapon is permitted, short of the Zords.

Battles are decided by random selection and each character is represented for each of their colors (Rocky and TJ are in both Red and Blue, Tommy is in Red and Sixth, etc.). Rangers with multiple powers in the same color will be using the ones which are most unique to them (Adam is Zeo Green, Cassie is Space Pink, etc. – yes, this kinda shafts the Turbo Rangers, I know – all three Turbo fans are free to register their complaints). All major teams are represented, MMPR through Megaforce. Evil Rangers like the Psychos and A-Squad - as well as one-shot Rangers like Cat or SPD Red Bridge - are excluded.

Okay, so round one broke my heart but gave us a clear victor. Let's see what round two does as we pit two of nature's fiercest rivals against each other: mallrats and future cops.

Will the original Pink Ranger handle a foe from the future as well as she could the past? Will Syd knock Kim out of the tournament in-person and not through a cheap letter? Which Ranger will reign supreme?

Oooh, the "1993 ten year old's fantasy girl" Kimberly or the "Syd-y" Syd...
Tough, as I think Jen is currently best Pink for our Pirates.

But logically, Syd has the better training. A guy in a monkey suit on a New Zealand sand dune is a better combat trainer than a floating blue head.
Better character, however...

Dang Switchblade. Why is your number generator pitting all of the decent to semi-decent pinks together in the first rounds?

Kimberly does have some natural skill as a gymnast plus nostalgia factor going for her, but in terms of power and trained skill Syd has her beat. In terms of personality though, I don't feel that either would contribute much to the ultimate team. Both were the sterotypical 'girly girl' characters for their season but don't offer much beyond that.

I dunno. I really don't.
Of all the SPD characters, Syd was the worst. Spoiled brat who's a vapid airhead. Sure, she had training, but outside of her being humbled by Jack's past compared to her own, I really don't remember anything about her in terms of character.

But, then again, Kimberly was the prototypical Californian valley girl. She had fight in her, yeah, but...Eh. Wasn't she injured by taking a 2 foot fall off a balance beam onto a padded mat?
At least Rocky's injury gave him a neck brace to show that it was serious...

Two characters I could care less about...

Syd has had actual training though and has superpowers so I guess she is the better Ranger, plus she had some semblance of character growth which is more than Kimberly could say. PLUS, I'm guessing, being in MMPR is gonna give Kimberly a free ride to a certain number of votes as well, so Syd will need the help.

I went for Kimberly, no hesitation. And no, it wasn't because "ZOMG hawt." Kim was one of the toughest and most competent members of her team, especially after the peace conference swap-out. I can think of at least three occasions where Kimberly took down one of Rita or Zedd's monsters solo. She was also much smarter than she led on and pulled off some clever plans, like creating the Old West Rangers.

Syd, on the other hand, was easily her team's load. She was the least competent member of the team and their worst fighter, hands down. I'd also argue she was much more vapid and shallow than Kim ever was. Future tech and training are all well and good, but I still think Kim is the better Ranger of the two.

Kim. Anything is better then SPD in my opinion.

Well I like Syd and the SPD training.

I just never understood why anyone like Kimberly when I was a kid. As a SoCal native I thought she was the more offensive of the original rangers lol.

At the time I was a little boy in Kentucky, so that's pretty much what I thought all Californians were like :lol

Blame every TV show and movie from the 90's.
I know, geographically, Kentucky isn't very far south, but trust me, I was in the South.
There was no one from California here to prove the media wrong :lol

Syd. She might be a shit character, but she's from a show I actually WANT to watch and enjoy, unlike Kim who is from a show I want to watch purely to riff it.

Syd is the weak link in SPD, go Kim.

Only reason why Kim is not running away with this is anti-MMPR bias. She's a great team player, she's brave and clever, and she has more heart and compassion than anyone else in this competition.

Syd is an also-ran nobody. Kimberly is a real hero. QED.

I don't think she's a particularly good character or fighter.

But Syd just wasn't very good. SPD Omega was just a ball of light, and he had more depth than her.

Syd to me was basically the same character as Kim so it's tough.And before you say "No she wasn't,Kim was much better",They were both stuck up characters that learned through the series that they could get along with a lower class,and be humbled by them.

I'm picking Syd.And it's not cause I'm MMPR biased,heck without MMPR there wouldn't be Power Rangers.But Syd showed heart,determination,and humbleness.So in those aspects she ties with Kim.So it actually does come down to powers for me,and Syd wins in spades.Swat mode,superpowers,and without her the team wouldn't have their team cannon.

Oh and don't call people out for being MMPR biased when the first biased post on this thread was against SPD.

Okay, I admit that I grew up on the beach every weekend and my family was big into surfing, which is good because everywhere I went people assumed I surfed lol. Even the most "hippie surfer" friends I had never talked like anyone on TV. I do say dude a far amount apparently but no one is THAT bad.



As a kid I knew that things weren't like on TV but when we went to Texas and they didn't all wear big hats and belt buckles but had the same clothes as me mostly I was a little surprised. Thought it would be like no shorts and all jeans. To be fair though, there were enough kids in Texas wearing giant belt buckles and cowboy boots to understand the stereotype.

I voted Syd. Trained Police Officer, towards the middle of SPD she'd become a rather good one too. And.. I honestly don't like Kim. She whined far to much for my taste, and mostly over Tommy. Plus, she didn't have a robot dog.

Wasn't there a period where Kimberly just disappeared for awhile? Then she got bored with the whole Ranger thing and left if I remember.

No, she was written out when AJJ left the show and passed her powers to Kat. There was a period where she did not have her own Zord, though, but that was because of the Kakuranger footage.

Ah, so she wasn't needed at the time.

To be fair though it looks like the SPD Rangers weren't really needed, since Doggie was happy to pull random people off the street, including one who he places to lead the team. That organisation was a sham.

Still voted for Syd though.

Even though Syd is losing,I'm just happy to see it was a well discussed,close contest between two similar pinks.It means there might be a little hope left in this tourney.

There wasn't alot of "I'm voting for ______ cause I remember" or "I'm voting for her cause she's hotter",there was actual discussion.

If only they had paid Cassie properly to join Lost Galaxy...

Wow. Where the heck did all those Kimberly votes come from? When I checked this morning Syd had a pretty decent lead.

I was starting to wonder the same! Possibly the most interesting and intense match of this pink tournament has already happened.
