Pacific Rim June Roundup
1 Attachment(s)
As this month draws to a close we are mere weeks away from the premiere of Pacific Rim! For those of you looking forward to the 7" scale NECA Pacific Rim Figures be sure to check out Toys R Us, as they've been sighted there this month! There's more news concerning the movie itself:
Feast your eyes on TV spot 6: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrFFi..._dWuLmn2yAF2nn That's not all, check out the newest Pacific Rim trailer, "At The Edge": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ssjF..._dWuLmn2yAF2nn Also for those of you who intend to watch Pacific Rim in IMAX, check out an IMAX poster designed by Sergio Grisanti! The poster was revealed by Hero Complex. Here's more on the poster by director Guillermo del Toro: Quote:

Oh damn it all. I absolutely adore that poster but I'll be out of the country on July 12. I hope people don't charge a bunch for it after the fact.
|
I really like that poster. What I don't like is the films tagline; it's too dense. If it was spread out a bit more, say have "To fight monsters" at the top and "We created monsters" at the bottom, then it would have been better. As is, it's mediocre. It's a nitpicky complaint, though.

I just finished reading the prologue comic last night (112 page HC), and I have been making plans for a "Day Of Daikaiju" with my friends on the 13th... Pacific Rim, Monsterpocalypse, Godzilla, Daimaijin, Ultraman... Totally champing at the bit for this one!

I'm so excited for this!
I'll be honest and say I have little interest in the movies that inspired this, I mean I can appreciate a dude in a rubber suit stomping on cardboard buildings but I find it hard to have anything beyond just a base appreciation. But with how far CGI has come in the last few years, I'm hoping Pacific Rim elevates the cardboard stomping into something truly great. |
I can't be more excited for this movie.

Holy crap, I have to go look for those 7" toys at TRU now!
|
Knifehead is on Amazon US for like thirty dollars, I am contemplating buying it. (the mecha are on there as well slightly cheaper)
For UK folk Ebay sellers are taking preorders on the figures for like 15 quid. |
I heard Knifehead isn't that great. Like, sculpt-wise and paint-wise he's excellent, but he's not very posable. He's basically just there to stand and get punched by the much more posable Jaegers. I won't pay $30 for him, I'd wait for a sale or deal, personally.

It's an old chestnut that villains do not sell well in Japan, which is why there is a dearth of baddies in Japanese toylines aimed at kids. In the collector's market we get more of them. (Same idea that female toys do not sell to kids in the US hence we get much fewer of them.)
Daikaiju properties like Godzilla and Ultraman are the exception here, as in the end they're all monsters, and monsters sell, so that's why we get vinyls of so many different monsters. I'll have to see Knifehead in person, I suppose, but to be displayed with Bandai vinyls, not being super poseable is alright. The Jaegers, hmmm, I'll have to put them with my MAF Raideen (which I always want to pronounce as "Raideeeeeeeeeen!") and other Super Robots. |

The Crimson Typhoon looks nice in person, shame about the front right arm only being able to move forward or something. The Gypsy Danger paint apps did not look good. That's the thing about predominantly PVC-based figures; if you have bad paint apps, they look even worse on PVC. |
Man, these recently released clips do way better at selling the movie. The fight scenes look incredible and are so easy to follow compared to other CGI movie spectacles!
