Ultimate Ranger Team Tournament - Sixth Division Round 1
 

Let’s play a game: The Gokaiger adaptation isn’t season two of Megaforce, it’s a brand new series with a brand old cast. The six Rangers are all returning characters from previous Ranger teams, gathered together to face off against the most powerful evil ever. But which six Rangers? That’s where this tournament comes in.

We’re going to cast this team with the very best Red Ranger, very best Pink Ranger, very best Blue Ranger, very best Yellow Ranger, very best Grack/Bleen Ranger, and very best Sixth Ranger.

The current team consists of:

Red Ranger: Carter Grayson
Yellow Ranger: Lily Chilman
Blue Ranger: TJ Johnson
Pink Ranger: Jen Scotts
Green Ranger: Adam Park

The rules are simple: the Rangers of each color fight it out to see which one stands at the top of their personal section of the rainbow. The winners will be determined by popular vote, feel encouraged to explain your choices to help sway the undecided. Fights are all-out brawls – any power-up or weapon is permitted, short of the Zords.

Battles are decided by random selection and each character is represented for each of their colors (Rocky and TJ are in both Red and Blue, Tommy is in Red and Sixth, etc.). Rangers with multiple powers in the same color will be using the ones which are most unique to them (Adam is Zeo Green, Cassie is Space Pink, etc. – yes, this kinda shafts the Turbo Rangers, I know – all three Turbo fans are free to register their complaints). All major teams are represented, MMPR through Megaforce. Evil Rangers like the Psychos and A-Squad - as well as one-shot Rangers like Cat or SPD Red Bridge - are excluded.

So the core team is complete (and fully compliant with Saban's politically correct casting requirements, no less). But there's one more Ranger to cast for this team. The time has finally come to see who will get to don the silver suit of our ultimate Sixth Ranger!*

Up first, a pair of Rangers who both came back from the dead to travel through the stars.

*The final say on who qualified for the Sixth Ranger pool is my call and mine alone. If you disagree over one of the 22 Rangers in this pool, that is well within your right. I'm not going to be removing from or adding to the pool, though, regardless of what anyone thinks. Let's please not derail the following rounds with arguments about whether Eric is a Sixth or Red, whether the Phantom Ranger or Robo Knight count, or what Gokaiger classified Gekiviolet or Dekamaster as. Let's just have fun and discuss the Rangers on their own merits. Please.

Zhane, I think he would win this round :lol

Mike. Look at the powers, look at their fighting ability, look at their level of awesome. Mike trumps all three and hardcore. Magna Defender is just better.

That, and, despite the neat weapon, I never really considered Zhane a powerhouse of In Space. He was just pretty meh of a character.

This might be the first time you voted against someone from In Space that your reasoning wasn't "Because he's from In Space." :p

Nothing against Zhane, but Mike was just the better character and felt more thought out and his place in the story was more then "We need a sixth ranger for the sake of having a sixth ranger."

Zhane's weapon really is awesome. It makes very little sense but I still love that thing.

But Mike has a sword that turns into a shotgun when it's sheathed. And that is awesome.

Plus Mike is less of a total d-bag.

Actually, once in Gokaiger, there was a fantasy sequence where Hyuga(Sentai equivalent of Mike) was GokaiSilver/Megaforce Silver.
That has no real bearing on any of your decisions, and I know some people are gonna get upset to see someone compare Power Rangers and Super Sentai, but I just wanted to make that known.

I haven't seen In Space okay! There I said it.

That is the first time I voted against someone from In Space and gave an actual reason :lol And it was a damn good one!

Mike is just plain better. He has better skills, he made more of a difference, he had better weapons. He had a better costume. He's just better. The only thing Zhane ever did was wake up from a coma. You were right when you called him a meh character, because that was what he was. Just another character.

When Justin coming back makes more of an impact than Zhane, then something is wrong :lol

I personally don't remember anything these two did.

Mike.Mostly cause I share his name.lol.Also though because he was tough.He is the only ranger I know to have a shotgun.Plus wasn't he also the only one able to grow large? That's technically not a megazord.

Also he was so badass he was floating in space for a while before leo found him and brought him back,still alive.

Well, I'm pretty sure the Mystic Titans were still under the "No Megazords" thing so that might not work.

And Mike surviving an unknown amount of time floating in the vacuum of space and not dying even though he was without a protective suit and oxygen proves he has incredible powers that trump resurrection tears and telekinesis any day.

I bet he rolled his eyes every time he had to dub that weapon name into a battle scene. I'm still gonna say that Zayne is more powerful despite looking like a boy band reject.





Also, is there a list of all qualifying 6th Rangers? I know some characters wouldn't qualify depending on the rules used.

Mike on the grounds of I remember nothing about Zhane and if I remember nothing about the character that says everything.

Mike sacrificed being a ranger (and almost his own life) to help Terra Venture escape the Lost Galaxy.

Zhane helped fight the Psycho Rangers, I guess.

Hmmm. This one is tough for me because when you look at it, neither one has a lot of on screen time to really shine. Zhane disappears for a big chunk of In Space, and Mike only gets to be Magna Defender in the tail end of Lost Galaxy.

For raw power, Mike has to get the nod. Magna Defender was a bad dude... I think back to To The Tenth Power where we see him handle Villamax and Deviot single handedly.

But Zhane brings other assets to the table. I always liked when he would use disguises to trick his foes, such as dressing like a clown to avoid the human-ized Psycho Rangers, or dressing as Psycho Silver. He seemed to think "outside the box" which is a useful trait.

But for a 6th Ranger, I want someone who brings the heat, so I have to go with Mike on this one.

Did he? I just rewatched In Space last month and he went off with the KO-35 group but it was literally an episode or two and he was back with the team. I mean 6th Rangers aren't supposed to be around all the time anyway.

I might be misremembering it, it's been literally a decade since I have watched any significant amount of In Space.

I know with a lot of these guys it felt like they were never around. The worst thing about a 6th is that early on it feels like they are stronger than the five combined but later they seem to get nerfed.

I'ma go with Mike. He had military training, he was very intelligent, his weapon was better, and he had the better megazord. Plus, he was just an all around better character. Zhane was a cool guy and was a nice character, but Mike had a bit more depth to him in my opinion. He was around since the beginning of the season, and thus we came to know about him early on, and were able to watch him grow as the series progressed. Zhane just popped up mid way through, and while he did have some growth, he just wasn't as good as Mike (and I consider In Space my favorite season, so that's saying something).

Just as a reminder, Mike was supposed to be Galaxy Red, but sacrificed himself and gave the powers to Leo.
Because Mike is just a badass.

Best decision he ever made. Leo went on to have one of the best climaxes in a PR season, and Mike went on to become the ultimate badass. Magna Defender.

I'd say it worked out all around.

And so, in spite of most of the conversation skewing heavily towards Mike, he still only pulls off a narrow victory over Zhane.
