Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Mega Bloks Mini Fig Set Revealed
2 Attachment(s)
As reported by Rangercrew, a special Megablocks 20th Anniversary Mighty Morphin Power Rangers mini figure set will be made exclusively for Toys R Us stores.
The set features the six Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, each one armed with a Blade Blaster. This set will be showcased and making it's debut at Megablock’s SDCC booth. This mini fig set will be released in August, though the price has yet to be announced. SOURCE: Rangercrew |
So much want.
|
They will be mine , oh yes! They will be mine
|
Wow.
And the Gosei Grand set advertised on the back with a giant Leon Laser just sweetens the deal! |
In b4 "the shield isn't removable? Bandai is trying to screw us over!"
|
I was hoping they would do a set like this. The megaforce mini figs are a wonderful upgrade from the more traditional design of the samurai mini figures. Count me down for this.
|
Ha. Those are adorable :lol
|
Awww man! On the one hand, I really want this because it's MMPR but on the other hand, Megabloks is bullshit!
|
I would've been all over these had they been in the Samurai mini figs style. I get that they're moving away from having them look like lego rip offs but I'm not really found of the style at all.

Oooh, I want these!

How is Megabloks "bullshit" again? They're quality of their toys over the past few years have increased quite a bit, if that's what you're referring to.
|
Oh, that's adorable!
It's a shame that they don't get their unique weapons instead of a set of Blade Blasters. I do hope this is a sign of things to come. After Kre-O getting back into building toys, I'd love for a MegaBloks set of the Dino Megazord. Hell, they could actually release a Dragonzord, too :lol |
These are nice, but where are my Ninja Storm Rangers? You know, the ones that aren't essentially LEGO Minifigs?

Megabloks is far from bullshit. Now $65 for a headhunter model or $120 for the Sith Fury that's half the size and weight of the Halo Phantom? That's bullshit. Hell, Megabloks sells troop packs at $13 that includes four fully sculpted, painted and posable figures with unique weapons while Lego charges $15 for maybe four primitive, tampo'd minifigs with some cheaply designed vehicle and those old blaster sthey've been using for years. (not even comparring the fact that Megabloks minifigs have tons of different body pieces to replicate the armour customization of the games, while Lego maybe makes a new clone helmet once in a blue moon or a new alien that they stick in ONE expensive set) I think this set is really cool. I still wish that their PR minifigs used the Halo style build, but whatever, this is cute and well-done. I'd love to see them do, y'know, OTHER series besides MMPR though. I hope with the success of these transitional figures we'll actually see them adopt that posbable, sculpted body. Imagine nearly-fully articulated, teeny little rangers with sculpted helmets, suits and unique weapons? I really wish we were there now. Quote:

Minor nitpick, but why is Red off to the side instead of in the middle? Just seems like an odd choice to put Black in the middle instead of Red.

Lego doesn't have to try. They have the brand recognition and licenses. When I picked up an Optimus Prime Kreon, it blew my mind that they had a waist and ball jointed arms and legs. Makes them far more lively. It's a shame Lego keeps their dull Legoman design. Megabloks and Kre-O have spoiled me in terms of minifigs. |

I wish White Ranger was in there, too. |
It would have been cool if the Green Ranger's chest shield would have been it's own seperate piece and not painted on, but that's a minor nit-pick. I'm guessing this set would normally be around $20 but but because it's a TRU exclusive it'll be closer to $25-$30.

Really it seems like a matchmade in heaven. Halo characters already remind me of Power Rangers being dudes in similar suits with different helmets and colours and a variety of weapons. |
Eh. I don't mind.
Blind bag minifigs in my area are about $4, so $20 for 6 isn't exactly overcharging. I would much prefer their original weapons, and perhaps an upgrade to the Halo style minifigs, but for what it is, I can deal with it. |
Great. Yet another 20th Anniversary set that focuses only on MMPR and completely forgets that there were a number of other versions of PR between 1993 and now.

One year for MMPR, another for everything else. Or at least a beginning to a "Legacy" imprint for BoA to sell nostalgic stuff from MMPR2-RPM. |
Please give us a Megablocks MMPR Megazord/Dai Zyu Jin please.
|
I like the idea, I just don't find the current PR MegaBlocks figures aesthetically pleasing.

This is pretty cool, and $20? Not big change. I like them.

Reality is that LEGO is still leagues ahead of MegaBloks and Kre-O in terms of quality builds. They're definitely improving, but they have a long way to go before they have builds as good and intelligent (while also fun) as LEGO's. |

And that's not even mentioning sets like "The Bat." There's seriously no excuse for such a poorly made sets. Megabloks has inarguably been improving nearly constantly with it's Halo line as well as it's lesser known lines, (hell, compare the current Warthog to the original and it's like they're two differnet toylines) while Lego has not. And that's not opinion, that's looking at the sets and seeing the cold hard facts of less parts, flimsier and less accurate builds and less colour cohesion. |

It's rather genius, if you ask me. |

Either way that still leaves all the other sets which are either on equal standing or better then the old, with some exceptions being the Catwoman set, while the brand new sets are great, such as the Lex Luthor and Funhouse. Either way, I think saying the LEGO DC sets have regressed compared to the LEGO Batman sets is incorrect. I much prefer the LEGO DC sets. Quote:
And this is getting way off-topic, so I think I'll leave it at that. |

And my point wasn't even regression, That's just worst case, but the STAGNATION and the stubborn, outdated mentality that refuses to recognise that times have changed. Lego has not improved their builds or sets in a long, long time. Like I siad, compare Halo warthogs and the improvement is staggering. Compare Lego Batmobiles and it's depressing. Same goes for a lot of their sets. They still haven't made a Star Wars walker that doesn't look weird. And like I said, they still pull the cheap trick now and then with larger builds being technic frames with plates hanging off them. Again, to put it in comparrison, theturbo tank was a $100+ item when it came out. it was hollow, ugly on the inside and just all around nothing spectacular. Then take the Halo Phantom, a set that's not even recent, and it's basically a brick with the only hollow parts being the cockpit and the troop bay... which is still bricks on top of bricks for that bullet-proof feel. And the Phantom was only $90. Hell, take the last Lego set I ever bought, the Bounty Hunter Dropship. That thing is flimsy and wobbly and does an okay job of looking like the source material. I mostly got it for the Embo figure... which doesn't even have unique armour and looks really cheap because of it. It was $70, but for $30 less I got the Halo Falcon, a set that's not only larger, but way the hell more solid. It again, is plates on top of plates for a super strong feel. The Halo (that's the Dropship's name. Kind of funny in this context) is mostly empty space, designed for minifigure occupation... but fails completely because no minifigure is capable of sitting in the lower section because there's not enough height. Meaning that area's just empty space for no reason. Space that could've been used for adding structural stability. Add to that the doors being held on by a paltry four studs and the things on the thrusters always getting knocked out of alighnment and it feels like a haphazard MOC then an official set. It's like Lego is trying to make their sets more toy-like and less model... but they fail as toys as well because they're not strong enough for play and the minfigs are archaic and boring. Meanwhile Halo Megabloks nails that medium with it's minifigs and sets like cement blocks. |
Well crap, I am going to have to buy that.
|
Awesome, definitely buying that when it comes out.

Lovely looking set!
Any chance the helmets have sculpted detail and not just paint apps? |
I've been kinda leary of Mega Bloks ever since I bought the original Samurai Megazord and every joint cracked in half after two months of display. It'd be pretty hard to mess up mini figs though, and these look pretty cool.
