I was bummed that no one's going to sub this show but watching the raw... eh. Not so bummed anymore.

One of the GUIS admins(Shir) said on 4chan they didn't like Ginga so it was unlikely.
|
Hikari Senshi had said they would keep up with New Ultraman Retsuden weekly and released the first episode (the one that precedes Ginga's start) but apparently it was such a terrible job they scrapped the project entirely. Seemed like an overreaction from my perspective, but I didn't get to check out how bad it really was before it was taken down either.
I need a (Ultra) hero. :( |
Supposedly the Hikari Senshi subs were like 90% wrong.
|
Here's hoping someone whose competent gets to work on it then.

Have not had a chance to watch it yet, will try to check it out tonight. I found the link right before I had to go out the door!
EDIT: Just watched the episode. I liked it! Very different from any other Ultra show I have watched. The setup of the truckers being forced into changing into Thunder Daranbia was very interesting. I really liked Ginga's final attack as well! Looking forward to the next one. |
Shocking development! http://over-ti.me/releases/ultraman-ginga-01/
|
Already downloading it =), finnaly a ultran show my best friends can't spoil for me
|
This will replace Akibaranger nicely for me :D
Busy Ultra night tonight for me then, gotta catch up on Nexus before tomorrow and give this show a whirl. |
Is this okay to jump into if you've not see anything Ultra related beside the let's watch Nexus episodes?

Also, WOO HOO on Over Time stepping up for the Fansub! Can't download it till I get home, but WOO HOO! |
I'm not really sure what to think. I liked it, for the most part, but at the same time this felt really low budget. I guess the action figures are meant to be like Ranger Keys or Rider Cards, but having the main character carry around an action figure and talk to it just looks, I don't know, cheap and even more commercial than the Sentai/Rider equivalents.
That said, I am interested in the story and the actual fight between Ginga and... that thing I don't remember the name of was pretty boss. I think I'll stick with it, especially since there's nothing else new to watch but Garo and Wizard right now. |
The monster Ginga fought in this episode was Thunder Daranbia. The other daikaiju who made an apperance was, of course, Black King.
I think that the sofubi aspect is purposefully a little ridiculous. But soft vinyl toys have been a part of Japanese culture for a long, long time, and part of the Ultra Series since the very start, so I like seeing them being used as the collectible element of the show. (Plus, to me, a little vinyl toy is much nicer than a key or ring which just sort of sits on the shelf. You can play with these! "RAR!" "Schuuuwatch!" And so forth...) |
Not sure how i fell about this this, the fight was short but nice.but all the actting felt really forced. but i give it few more episodes to if i change on it.
|
Over-Time just became even cooler in my book.
|
I was kinda mehed by it. Whether deliberate or not, having ACTUAL toys in the show is really shit, even the Ginga Spark thing looked like the retail version rather than a proper show prop.
There were some funny moments now and then but not enough to really make me enjoy the episode and the fight was fun at the end but once again I don't see the point of watching a series for the two or three minutes of fighting right at the end. UNBALEEBABULL! |
Well I completely loved that episode to death.
Yes the whole spark dolls thing is very silly (especially since they move around and talk too), but this episode was TONS of fun. I'm currently getting my dose of "serious" Ultraman from Nexus so it was great to see that this was a lot more light hearted. DEFINITELY looking forward to more. |
The sofubi toys as part of the series does make it look somewhat low budget, but it also gives it a special charm. What doesn't convice me is the acting skills of Mio Miyatake (Mizuzu)
But in general I liked it, and as my first ultra series it seems like good entry point. Ps: I'm the only one that thinks Hikaru is way too tall compared to his friends? |
just watched the first episode, absolutely loved it, between this and nexus, i'm becoming an ultraman convert
|
Watched the OT sub last night. I am still really eager to see the rest of the series.
Ultraman Retsuden was a retrospective show, and as it was hosted by Ultraman Zero, was not the most serious show. I like that Ginga is continuing that trend, with a fun, slightly silly story which looks back on the history of the Ultra Series. I get the feeling that it's meant to be a light, fun, "Oh I remember that guy!" sort of show for the fans. The biggest change for me is the use of teenagers instead of adults as is typical. Gives it a feel closer to some recent Kamen Rider shows. I don't have a problem with this, though it still strikes me as odd just because of the years of history with adult characters. And man, Ginga has such a cool design. He looks fantastic. |
I gave the first ep a shot cause of OT and I shut it off half way through, I can deal with alot of camp and cheese but this shit was just plain ridiculous
|
Watched Episode 1, and absolutely enjoyed it much better than Mebius' episode 1 however that was only because of it being newer. I enjoy the toy aspect with the past villains and UltraMen that I think this series will help me get into it easier. I really love Hikaru and love the look of Ginga.
|
For me, the fact that the characters respond to the toys as toys is what makes them work. I compare this to shows like Goseiger, where the characters are using the exact cards which you can buy, but treat them as Deadly Serious Business. I mean, the only bit which is missing would be a scene of them buying a booster pack to get a new Rare to use against the Monster Of The Week. In this sense, Ginga makes more sense to me.
|
I think I like this series for the fact that it uses older villains and Ultramen, that way if kids or even grown ups see an Ultraman they like the look of or just its character in general, they know the name then and can look it up.It helps spread the word about the Ultraman series.
Also, loved episode 1.Really enjoyed the whole interaction between the Ultraman Taro and the main hero.Very interested to hear why he was able to turn into a monster first though, pretty sure it's going to eb the big plot twist mid season. |

so Overtime subbed episode 1 and I decided to give it a shot.
This is my first foray into the Ultraman universe, and I enjoyed what I saw from the first episode. This is an anniversary series where the main hero turns into past characters, but unlike say Gokaiger or Decade it felt better paced. I can tell that they're really trying to cement Ginga as his own character, ignoring the fact that he's a catalyst for past Ultramen to appear. Overall, pretty interesting first episode and I might come back for more. |
Watched the second episode, and it was ok, I didn't like it very much, but it wasn't bad per se.
Honestly besides Taro and Hikaru most of the characters feel boring, however it must be because we are just starting :) Things of note: It's nice to see that Taro keeps some of his powers, so far Ginga has thunder and fire powers, and he finally flies! |
I'm actually really enjoying the Hikaru/Misuzu relationship and the special effects stuff is still really good. The rest of the show, though... man, this really isn't made for adults, is it? :lol
|
Seems that Hikaru can't transform straight into Ginga, and I like that. I thought the Kaiju dolls were pretty much going to be ignored, but they seem to be making it a point to showcasing each new Kaiju he gets.
|
I was intrigued by OT's translation of the monster this time out, "Kemurian." As in a member of the Kemur race; as an alien, his name is normally parsed as "Alien Kemur" (Kemur-seijin), similar to Alien Baltan, Alien Zarab, etc. I don't dislike it, it's just odd to see it in that style.
Anyway, I really enjoyed the episode. The human stuff is silly but a good vehicle for a light, nostalgic series like this. Alien Kemur acting like a punk during the fight was funny too, and glad to see the Kaiju Dolls continue to play a role for Hikaru. The effects were good and I am still happy that Taro seems to be sticking around as a mentor. Really enjoying this show. |
So does it still counts as a saber if you basically use it as a gardening tool? :lol
I quite liked this episode. Loved the monster and lol at Taro being a perv. I like that they are going to use Jean-Nine but why the heck is he back to Jean-Killer? |
I'm still loving this show. King Pandon is a great monster suit, and once again Taro's antics are hilarious. If I need ANY spark doll, its him :lol
Question for the Ultra experts - is there any significant reason that out of all the Ultramen, Taro seems to be the mentor? |
I'm cool, too, guys! I loved the first episode, but the second episode is the weakest by far. I do like the relationship between Hikaru and Misuzu, but what in the world was up with the second episode? The third episode isn't as strong as the first, but it did cement Taro as my favorite character.
I'm going to keep up with this show, but I really hope this show won't end up with a reversal of the typical Star Trek movie opinion, in which the odd-numbered episodes are better than the even-numbered episodes. Also, the amirite within me is wondering why the Creature from the Black Lagoon will be in next week's episode. |

Ragon was the first monster from Ultra Q to show up in Ultraman. In fact, the Ultraman episode specifically references the Ultra Q episode, which is pretty neat.
I loved episode three, to the point where after watching it I immediately went and ordered the Spark Doll of King Pandon. The soulless voice of the gal who was Dark Lived into Pandon was super creepy. I do not know what the significance of it being Taro other than the servant of the Dark Master is one of Taro's enemies, and Taro himself is pretty popular, but still suitable for the sillier bits... I can't see Ultraseven doing the blushing routine from this episode, for instance. So loving this show... |
Ah, I see. :lol
I'm also tempted to buy a Taro Spark Doll. I don't even care about the fact that I lack a Ginga Spark, I really want Taro. |
Mmm not sure how to feel about this show yet, I the main two characters. Their two fiends on the other hand I can't stand. Thou the black and gold ace looking dude is pretty cool.
