SDCC 2013 News, MMPR/Zyurangers, Godzilla, Legacy Morphers
 

Tokunation is at San Diego Comic-Con 2013! And when we said we'd be on the show floor before anyone else we meant it! Our show team is already at the convention center and news has just started coming in.

Straight from Kickback himself we have confirmation that a set of the core 5 Kyoryu Sentai Zyurangers / Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers S.H.Figuarts are on display!! Bandai Tamashii and Bluefin have both begun releasing these figure in Japan and the US respectively. Dragon/Green Ranger & Tyranno/Red Ranger are only just seeing release with Pterra/Pink Ranger confirmed as a web exclusive in Japan this fall and a US retail release as well.

This is the first time the core 5 Zyurangers/Power Rangers have been shown on display together and confirms their future releases! Each of course includes their signature weapons. It's currently unconfirmed however, due to a no photo policy for the night, whether or not the US release of Tiger/Yellow Ranger will include an alternate skirt accessory for MMPR fans. And for any users in attendance a friendly heads up that the US release for S.H. Figuarts Red & Green Rangers are being sold at the Bluefin booth, #3545!

Bandai is also on the show floor showcasing not only the plethora of upcoming Power Rangers products they offer but also Godzilla! A massive pallet of SDCC Green/White Legacy Morphers is also making the rounds before they go on sale tomorrow!

Cool. But MMPR Yellow doesn't need a skirt accessory, but possibly a slightly different body scuplt. Trini didn't have a skirt.

People are still speculating about the whole MMPR Yellow Ranger thing?

Of course we'll be getting a male body because that's how she appeared in the show.

The Yellow Skirt accessory would be for Gokaiger more than anything else!

It won't happen and if it does it'll be entirely pointless. But for the sake of discussion and speculation it's been mentioned.

I could care less if they make the skirt, why would they? Other than some US footage I think, there should be NO reason it should have it, Since I have yet to see Zyuranger, this will be Trini/Aisha no matter what they do concerning the skirt piece.

There was zero chance that Tigerranger was going to have a female body or a skirt accessory, I thought the speculation over it was a bit ridiculous.

Also, as someone that's going, but only on Sunday, I'm so scared that the morphers are all gonna be gone.

I can't wait to see everyone here rage when its revealed that MMPR yellow has a female buck. Whatever the footage shows, the character is female. Every PR toy from every series with a gender-swapped yellow ranger from the sentai (at least once BoA hit a point of actually sculpting different bucks for females and males, so basically PRiS onward), PRLG, PRLS, PRTF, PRWF, has matched the character, which is female.

I don't want Trini with a male body just because that's what's in the footage, I want a Trini to be a female because she's female. If Tamashii makes a Tigerranger figure, then it should be a male sculpt.

Yes but the girl bodies, were from Bandai of America, we are talking Tamashii Nations and Bandai of Japan, they will make a MALE body for Tigerranger. I do not see any way that they will make a completely new mold for a female version just to have a MMPR be girl for the stateside relase, have they made new stuff for US and not Japan before? No. Will they? I dont think so. So even if they do, Ill be gettin the ineviteble Exclusive Tigerranger, instead of the US MMPR version.

The Zyuranger figure will, sure. We don't know if the MMPR one will yet.

The thing is, once you start dealing with Power Rangers, you're dealing with Saban/BoA. Yes, Tamashii is making the figure, but they have to go through both of those afformentioned companies (and in this case, BoA may as well be a completely separate entity) before they can release PR merchandise.

Well here's hoping they don't make an entirely pointless and 100% screen inaccurate body for no reason.

Here's my question to everyone that wants a male body: why do you care? Aren't you going for the JP releases anyways to have them be consistent?

God that set is sexy. And as if to tease this argument, it looks like the person in the pick is even holding the Yellow Ranger figure. How amusing.

Like I said: that's how she appeared in the show, so the Bluefin release is going to be the male body too. I really doubt Bluefin will release an exclusive new body for the US market, not unless one was already planned for the Japanese market to begin with…

And here's where we disagree, because I believe that we wouldn't even be getting the whole team on either shore if it weren't for American demand. (We'd still have gotten Red and Green, though).

I know people don't always believe this, but there are some Tamashii lines that exist primarily because of demand from outside of Japan (Godzilla, Dragonball and Megaman being the big ones), and I think MMPR falls under this category.

Exactly, it would be pointless to have a female version whereas in the show, she was always more inscale persay with the males, because the suit is male. There is no way that Bluefin will make the female version just because the actor was female and not the suit. So for those who want a female version of yellow, buy 2 pinks and customize if your that picky.

And to answer a previous question, yes. I am buying the JP release because I'm collecting them as Zyurangers, not Power Rangers. But it wouldn't matter what I chose to collect the simple fact is that a female Tiger Ranger body (baring the female Gokai Changes) did not exist. It certainly didn't during MMPR so I see no reason to produce a female body for that figure.

If they do, there's a slim possibility they could, I would still fail to see the point of it. It's inaccurate.

And I was just about to ask if it was okay to post that, heh.

It looks pretty clearly like a male body in the larger version of the picture I saw.

The Samurai display is really freaking awesome too, by the way.

Im getting them as PR even though Im getting the JPN releases, even though I do plan on watching Zyuranger in the near future.

And you'd be 100% wrong. Zyuranger was wildly popular in Japan during it's prime and is still fondly remembered. It revolutionized sentai, the team suit designs, the mecha, the monsters, everything was improved upon for that show. Toei wanted to breathe new life into Super Sentai and it was very successful. Trust me, the fate of Zyuranger figuarts did not solely rest on the US market, it's a factor, but it is not the only one. It helps that these releases coincide with the US anniversary but they most certainly would have happened in Japan regardless.

Fair enough on that point, but I'm surprised they would be doing the full Zyuranger team before Jetman, Dairanger, Liveman, or friggin Goranger. I'm guessing that's the PR capitalizing coming in.

Also, for those saying that MMPR yellow was never female in morphed footage, that's completely wrong. All of the American costumed footage, which by a quarter into Season 2 was the only costume footage there was besides stock footage stuff, had Yellow portrayed by a female suit actor or at least made to look female.

Because you think it is? Who cares if a female figure is released, at the end of the day is it really going to bother you?

If they are going to do that just for a Gokai change to be possible, why not make a male and female version of ALL Sentai releases?

Not gonna lie, I'd be SUPER into that.

I feel like we wouldn't get the whole team this quickly if it wasn't for the popularity of MMPR. No way to prove what they would or wouldn't have done in an alternate universe though.

I wouldnt, itd be stupid in my opinion, it would be worthless to do all that for just a few SHF for Gokai changes that barely ever appeared.

SO where are the pics of the ZyuRangers? All I see is the Shinkenger pic with Yellow, Pink, and Black being set up in the background.

Well the first post states there was a fairly strict photo ban tonight. Someone snuck that Shinkenger pic but there is no Zyuranger one right now.

Oh. I guess it helps if I read the whole thing instead of jumping for joy when I read ALL 5 ZyuRangers are on display.

To me the Zyuranger's are the Power Rangers but Trini had a dudes body when she morphed so it'd be accurate to both shows for her to look like a dude, in my opinion.

Anyway, MMPR is where it all started for me, so I'd actually love to collect the whole team but I think I'll wait for for the other five to all be released before I buy them because I want them more out of respect, rather than desire, so I wanna go for the cheapest option to obtain them.

Or I might just get Billy and Zack, and just not buy White Ranger and The Girls and save myself money as they are the three I don't even care for a little (well I love the White Ranger but I have Green now and I don't see the point in owning both as Green > White).

When I spoke to Adam from Tamashii Nation, he said the Yellow Ranger/Tiger Ranger issue is highly debated even for them, it's very likely that they would make the Japanese exclusive male and the US exclusive female, at least that's what I'm hoping :D

I hope not. I don't want to have to go through Mandrake and pay two times the amount to have the real Tiger Ranger.

This sounds like the way to go in my book. Frankly an official answer would be nice so everyone can move on from the speculation and bitching.

I don't care if they make the US version a female buck so long as it does not have a skirt. Male buck, female buck, doesn't matter one bit to me as long as the uniform is not messed around with. Heck if they do two bucks I'd probably buy both of them.
