even if super megaforce had a separate cast, i dont think the pirate theme would fit because of the culture of it, the same way with megaforce with the angel theme.

They're ignoring the angle theme completely in Megaforce, and something tells me they'd probably ignore the pirate theme completely too, if Gokaiger wasn't an anniversary show.

If Saban really thought long and hard, they could probably do it. The basic idea that the rangers are pirates from space opens up a lot of possibilities for plot and story ideas. Just recycle the whole "land on Earth" and "don't know what Sentai/Power Rangers are idea" and you could get something at least decent from it on the American front. Maybe have it be to where they actually crash land, and slowly learn about Power Rangers or something.

But even without that for the anniversary theme, pirates could still work in my opinion. It just takes a lot of thinking and tinkering. After all, they made ninjas, samurai, ancient powers (or whatever they were in Ohranger), and cars work. Why not pirates?

I will agree with you though that the angel themes of Goseiger really don't translate well into Megaforce.

To be fair, they absolutely did not make cars work in Turbo. At all.

they made it work with Gingaman. originally it took place on earth but PR managed to take it into space. i think. :eyebrow

Which is they probably are skipping the pirate theme. Divatox was from Turbo, and Turbo almost got them canceled.
Why? Blame marketing's choices. I'm sure Saban didn't want to work with pirates again because of it. Even though Lost Galaxy wod have been great with Gingaman's villains. Especially when you imagine Terra Venture as having so many science-y things and raw materials for space Black Market dealings. Or even in that Terra Venture was a space cruise ship which space pirates make more sense with. Earth only works when the pirates raid it like treasure hunters, as Gingaman did. Well, more like oil tycoons, but still.

If they wanted to do pirates, they would make them pirates. There is nothing stopping them, they just wanted to do something else using those suits. Move on.

Ignoring the angel theme is understandable...But ignoring the Pirate theme is kind, eh... I mean the Megazord looks like a frickiing big Pirate robot! Imagine how, Gosei will explain that to them.

The pirate theme and the angel theme are different beasts though. In Goseiger, the suits are not angel-themed and the mecha are standard animals. All they had to do is cut a scene with wings here and feathers there and they were done. It was relatively easy to accomplish because while the show had the angel theme, the suits and powers didn't necessarily look angelic.

Gokaiger is completely different. The suits are pirate suits, they fight with sabres and pistols. Their morpher and team symbol is a stylised skull and crossbones. The main component of their mecha is a pirate ship and their mecha wears a pirate hat. The Ranger Keys are inside a treasure chest. Gozyujin and Gokai Silver's symbol is an anchor. Gokai Silver's Gold Mode is created by a key in the shape of an anchor. Their combined weapon is in the shape of a pirate ship.

You can't just ignore it easily like you could with Goseiger. I expect them to just not mention or point it out or for them to give maybe one line explaining it. After Megaforce, is anyone expecting much thought being put into Super Megaforce?
Gokaiger was brilliant. It was an amazing anniversary series and in my opinion, pretty damn perfect in every way. I know I won't get that in Super Megaforce, so I'm just going to be happy with having Gokaiger. Maybe an episode or two will surprise me in Super Megaforce, but I expect it to be as fumbled as badly as when they tried to take Carranger footage seriously. The confirmation that it'll be still set in high school confirms that any pirate connection storywise will be thin at most.

So we're pretty much screwed, then? :p

I think the Gokaiger suits are awesome, pirates was actually something original for the franchise...then it turns out they're barely using the suits and are probably not touching on the pirate thing at all. :( I hope in the future we get a pirate themed show that isn't also a tribute series.

That's what I wanted. I was hoping the Goseiger footage would use all the tribute aspects and then we'd get a season of straight pirate footage. I guess that would be too much effort to refilm though.

Eh. Outside of Gokaiger's civilian clothes and Marvelous acting like a douche, Gokaiger didn't make much use of the pirate theme, either.

Well, part of the point of the show was that they called themselves pirates, but were clearly heroes and not pirates at all, while Basco played the pirate thing straight. It was highlighted in multiple episodes, starting with Dekaranger tribute.

And the hunting the universe for the greatest treasure thing, too. I don't see how they could've gotten much more use out of it, given it was an anniversary season. It definitely could never get as much focus as samurai did in Shinkenger, I think what we got was great.

Denjiman's themes are being the first alien Sentai and having electric powers. Not that you can tell by looking at the suits.

it's possible that saban didnt want use the pirate theme because of us standards or just make it more original. it could be both.

in the era of spongebob theres no reason why the pirate theme wouldnt work and in fact should excel.

Ok, but in terms of visuals they did. There was nothing angelic about Gosei Great, or the individual mechs. Gokai-Oh uses a pirate ship as it's main component. The helmets kind of have pirate hat sculpting on it. Gokai-Oh wears a giant pirate hat.

They copied Samurai almost exactly from Shinkenger....there is something that wouldn't have much relevance to an American culture. Pirates on the other hand, is much different. Kids are very familiar with what Pirates are. Kinda odd they are seem to opting out of using that theme honestly. I mean there is a kids show on Disney Channel right now called "Jake and the Neverland Pirates." Not to mention the 4 Pirates of the Caribbean movies, with a 5th on the way. If Saban doesn't use the theme in the show it will be because they don't want too, not because American culture won't understand it.

To be fair, they pretty much completely obliterated the actual Japanese culture that was in Shinkenger, beyond them living in a Japanese style home and calling themselves Samurai and using Kanji (although they never pointed out it was Japanese writing).

Kids know that Samurai are cool people with swords from Japan that are into honour and stuff, which is all Power Rangers Samurai displayed.

To be fair though...so did Shinkenger, it was very Japanese but only really very Japanese as according to an American audience who has discovered Japan through anime, I can think of very few aspects of Shinkenger that were uniquely Japanese and something only a person with an understanding of Japanese culture would include.

Shinkenger was still truer to Samurai tradition, even though they both were a bit fairy-tale like in their ideas of Samurai. For a good example, compare the episodes in which ShinkenGold decides to spare Juuzo. In Samurai, Antonio was totally awesome for showing honour by not attacking a defenceless evil dude, which made him a true samurai. In Shinkenger, Genta was reprimanded for not following the Samurai path and sparing an enemy and in the end Genta came to terms with the fact he won't follow Samurai tradition. The two had completely different views of the samurai ways of life.

Not in any good way. The worst effect was the "True Red" plotline being one big brain tumor because there was no reason for any of the characters (who acted as if the reveal had been the same as in Shinkenger, even though it wasn't) to do any of the things they did in the last 5 or so episodes and they all just came across as huge dicks because there was no reason not to accept Lauren or Jaden to leave, while there was a lot more reasons for them to be upset in Shinkenger and for Takeru to leave.

I guess that is what happens when you try and slap your idealism on a story but don't change a single beat.

the acting is always horrendous, even if they somehow managed to make a decent show i would never be able to get passed the first few episodes due to the production of it.

i think samurai was the breaking point for me, the show was cringe worth for me...i cant even bring myself to watch passed the opening for megaforce

the only thing im excited about coming from the pirate themes is releases of merch that i missed out on during their initial run as sentai and other cool little things that will pop up that share the atheistic looks

as for pirates themes, i doubt they will even bother to elaborate on it. its just a new toy for them to sell

A "pirate" theme would work if they had anyone involved in the series that cared about the anniversary and the history.

Example: A group of 5 "space pirates" from the planet KO-35 head to Earth as the Legendary Power Ranger Andros, before he went missing, described an immense "treasure" on the planet. They head to Earth with a collection of "Ranger Keys", not knowing hardly anything about them except they can switch their powers to the powers of these keys.

Upon landing on Earth, which just happens to be invaded by the Machine Empire (having reformed by Prince Gasket, who is now uber upgraded), the Pirate Rangers run in to Legendary Power Rangers, the original holders of the powers that are now keys, and help the Pirate Rangers unlock new powers to defeat the Machine Empire as they continue to look for this "amazing treasure".

They meet the Silver Ranger, who would be the son/nephew of a former Power Ranger, who would teach them everything about Power Rangers history as they continue to fight the Machine Empire. By the end of the series, they learn that the "amazing treasure" that Andros spoke of is none other than the fact that ordinary people take on the power to defend the planet from evil. Now understanding that treasure, they decide to take the battle to the Machine Empire once and for all, and give up various keys to Legendary Power Rangers (Tommy, etc.) who fight in the ultimate battle to defeat the Machine Empire. After winning, they head towards the parts of space still controlled by the Machine Empire, vowing to uphold the legacy of the Power Rangers and to protect not just the Earth, but the entire universe, from the forces of evil.

I should write for the show.
