SDCC 2013 - Jason David Frank VIP Meet and Greet Gallery
24 Attachment(s)
During San Diego Comic Con 2013 the party never seems to stop, and right now, neither do I with updating with images from the convention of the year!
Jason David Frank, or as you know him, Tommy Oliver the Green Ranger and White Ranger from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, held two special VIP Meet and Greets away from the convention center and TokuNation.com went to the latter event! Here's some information that Jason David Frank shared!
Check out the images, including Kickback posing with the legendary ranger himself. |
so now that Bandai know that the SDCC exclusives were popular, will they release a regular gold legacy morpher? We might have to wait and see.
|
-Green Ranger comparable popularity to Wolverine
-Green Ranger able to support his own show God, this guy has no idea. |
Tommy couldn't survive his own show unless there was four of him representing Green, White, Red and Black and everyone should know how annoying that would be.

I don't know. I'd watch a Green one shot. Just remember: Can't be worse than Samurai :lol

Which actor is he referring to with the Richie replacement?

I always find it amusing when BoA is shocked by it's own success.
|
I'll be doing the VIP with him at the Chicago Comic-con. Can't wait!
Realistically, if they do release a retail version of the morpher, what's the earliest we will see it in stores? Late 2014? |
Tommy is the face of Power Rangers but he is getting very full of himself lately.
I can see a Green Ranger one shot working but a whole show is impossible. If the show goes through it would be more similar to Kamen Rider than Power Rangers due to the fact that it will only be one ranger instead of a team. |

I have to admit, a Green Ranger focused movie would be interesting. They would either have to re-cast him or come up with a reason for Tommy to be returning to his original duds for it to make any sense, but it would be interesting to see. I do agree that he is the equivalent of Wolverine within the PR franchise.
Bandai should have known better. There was no way a gold Morpher wasn't going to be super popular. Hopefully this does result in a retail version of it. Though the absolute earliest we'll see that is late next year. With them redoing the Dragonzord and the Dragon Dagger in the Legacy line next year, it'd be stupid not to do a retail gold morpher to go along with them. Then once they get a Legacy Titanus out of the way, they can move on to doing Legacy Thunderzords and Saba...:D |

To be fair he did leave the show due to demanding more money, I know Saban have turned out to be utter cheapskates but I never understand how actors get off on demanding more money and then walking out if they don't get it, that is like the most asshole form of a tantrum and it's even weirder that Walter Jones seems so involved in the community even though he did the same thing. So if that is the reason I can understand why JDF would be pissed.

In one of the past cons, JDF said that he wanted Rocky's actor to appear in Forever Red instead of ASJ. He probably considered him a better actor than ASJ because he stayed with the show longer than ASJ. |
I can just imagine an epic movie narrator going. "Saban's Green Ranger."
|
I could see it happening, but nothing major like on the big screen in the movie theaters, If a one-shot Green Ranger movie ever happens I can only imagine it being on T.V or direct DVD. Unless Sabans wants to pull out money that he keeps on hiding to make a decent movie.
|
It sould go through
green ranger show will be good, but with a dark tone. and then like second season or end of the first they bring in white ranger. the white one can be like its partner but like friendenemy(rivarly, but good terms).... white ranger identity shouldnt be revealed till second season.
|
"Bandai had no idea that the SDCC exclusives would be this popular. They now know otherwise."
Yeah I'm calling B.S on that one. They HAVE to know how much of an icon Tommy is, anything related to him is bound to sell like hot cakes. At the very least though, I'm hoping this tells Bandai that a mass retail version of Tommy's morpher will do well. |

Jason also mentioned to be wary of some actors who have come out of the woodwork trying to cash in on PR fans after doin nothing for 20 years. My assumption is he means Amy Jo Johnson, who didn't communicate with the fandom until she started her own fund raiser for her ow short movie.
Edit: wary implying they don't care about the fans, they're simply exploiting them for their own benefit (fund raisers, kick starters, auctions, etc). He didn't name any names but stated they hated doing fan events when they were on the show and ignored letters because they didn't have time for that. But now they need you to make them popular again |
It's really depressing hearing about this stuff, you avoid it for so long all the shit happening piles right up. :(
|
I would love to see a Green Ranger movie or show.
I think a show would be really awesome if it didn't have to be anchored down by a specific season and he could interact with rangers, mentors, villains from all seasons on his quest. |

Did they confirm the Legacy Morpher will not be sold outside SDCC?

Green Ranger is comparable to Wolverine's popularity in the fandoms?
That's completely unfair and inaccurate. I'm sure there's more actual fans that like Green Ranger than that, and he's not as obnoxiously over-exposed in the fiction. I wouldn't mind a Green Ranger one-shot. Like a DTD movie or TV special/miniseries. Green Ranger's cool (though I prefer White's costume) and hey, maybe it could help with people who says he's too bland of a character if he had a chance to grow by himself instead of being the after-the-fact ranger. Also, I've all but sold myself on the Legacy Morpher, but I'd be 100 times more down for a mass release gold morpher for White Ranger. Quote:
I'm sure that's not always the case, but not everyone leaves because they're greedy. Quote:

when you're getting paid the same.. but the company and other people are getting paid a lot more.. for something you're staring in can be extremely frustrating. plus, when it comes to entertainment.. a lot of times it's not about the money, it's about what the money says. it gives you respect, status, all of the things that you've been trying to achieve your entire life. it's like college football.. the schools are making TONS of money off of players and the players aren't getting paid anything. problem is, they don't really have a choice, whereas actors sometimes do. anyways. i completely agree that the green ranger could be compared to wolverine.. i'd LOVE to see a tv series or movie based on him though i would like to see the other rangers in it as well.. if only for zord purposes. |
There's so much wrong in this thread, I don't know where to begin.
First off, Jason David Frank isn't the "face" of Power Rangers. The Red Ranger helmet is the literal "face" of Power Rangers. Secondly, Kickback, I highly doubt it's Amy Jo Johnson. She doesn't need to capitalize on anything and "only just came out of the woodwork" because Flashpoint is over and she's moving onto another project. During her time on Flashpoint, she wouldn't have had any time to work on it. Lastly, Austin St. John left Power Rangers because his mother was ill, not because of financial differences though he did say he would have liked to make more money to help his mother out. This came from him, in an interview from the first Power Morphicon. |
Quote:
Jason Geiger is also a notorious liar, at least his fellow actors say. He may have said he left because his mother was ill, but we have JDF stating the three wanted more money and Saban chose to go a different direction which started the entire idea from the actors that "if you ask Saban for something, you're going to a peace conference". I just assumed AJJ because he mentioned "coming out of the woodwork after 20 years" and suddenly needing/wanting your help/social media sharing/money for their stuff because no one else will find their projects. But I also posted "I assume" and not stating it as fact. |
Yeah I've ONLY heard of ASJ, Walter Jones and Thuy Trang leaving because of greed, I've never heard this stuff about his mother before but then I try to avoid as much off screen drama as possible as learning that actors are horrible people often impacts my enjoyment of their characters even when I know it shouldn't, this is especially true of when I relate an actor to a single character.
And maybe they did have just cause to leave but all I know is, everyone else stayed until their time was up and as far as I'm aware there was no bitching from them, so based on the evidence it's safe to assume it was their greed rather than Saban's stinginess. |
