Let's Watch Wednesdays Week 5 Ultraman Nexus 13-15
Riko and Faust's terrible connection revealed.
Kazuki has encountered the dangerous Mizorogi. What will the Visitors have in store for Earth? Let's watch Nexus 13-15! |
And I'm LOVING this show! This is the first of the Ultraman series I have ever watched and it's not disappointing.
|
Thoroughly enjoyed these episodes, it feels like the show has finally found itself in an entertaining blend of deeply unsettling horror and far more interesting Evil Ultramen beating our bland hero around the scaled set. If the show continues like this, you can officially call me a fan.
My only problem is I just don't care about anyone, Komon has to be one of the most frustrating protagonists ever, who has to have an existential crisis before he does anything and I mean every little thing, I'm assuming this dude can't even take a shit without contemplating the meaning of life first. I guess it at least made me finally appreciate Captain Bitch, Komon needs a fucking wake up atomic bomb to the nuts. |
Watched the first of this week's episodes. Holy crap, that was a mindfuck. I can definitely see why Ultraman's traditional younger audience didn't like this show. This was a really dark damn episode and the ending was just fucking mean.
That said, it was nice to see Nagi actually trying to be nice - even if it was in a pretty twisted way. It occurs to me, too, that between Nexus and Garo, this is the first time I've ever seen Yasue Sato in regular, everyday clothing. :lol Man, she's pretty. |
Haven't worked my way through all of these episodes yet as I needed to catch up on the 3 I missed last week but I must say this...damn, things have started getting grim on this show.
|
Watched these and I think Komon has started to lose it. That and I get the feeling him and Nagi will hook up later. :lol

Episode 13: ok so fare the episode was good did not say much we see the after math on komon here after last episode and how every thing will play out for him. Ok so in all this was a good komon episode to get over his lost but now the same thing similar to before going to happen and let's see what going to Happen next episode in 14
Episode 14: ok so now we are getting more character development with komon and what part he has in this series and nagi being more less bitchy then we first met and mazorogi seems suspicious even more now. So what will happen komon and what is with this light I'm starting to like the story more and more now. Episode 15: ok the start of this episode was ok but now it just feels like it dragging on with this arc and were only what 6 episode in and it all feels like it dragging on before the main plot of this arc hits. After the opening we learn more about hayma or what ever the guys name is who's nexus and this felt really good episode all together bring on next week. |
Things got pretty dark this week...
I had tons of "what the F is going on" moments with Komon's hallucinations.I was also mouth agape-stunned when they killed off the Beast with little girl Riko still inside. While I'm relieved they didn't kill her off,it kinda lessens the impact of the scene since we probably won't see that Riko again anyway. Also OMG Nagi has a heart and is being nice to Komon, what show am I watching again? :lol And another evil Ultraman, the show is definitely hitting its stride now.Hopefully nothing happens next week to bring it to a screeching halt. :eyebrow |
All caught up!
This show is getting good. I love Dark Mephisto's design even more than Faust (plus any character named that is win in my books), and the plot is getting pretty heavy. Komon has it tough. |
I've been busy and missed last week, so i caught up on the last six episodes last night. For last weeks episodes, Got to say wasn't expecting Riko being in the forest to lead to her being Faust, glad Faust was killed, didn't like his fight's. glad to see they upped the budgets for the fight scenes though.
For this week 13: That was all over the place, and while watching it had no idea what was going on. a plus though is Nagi is beginning to show signs of being a normal human. 14: was extremely dark and i was shocked that the brother couldn't get there attention to stop, or that nexus didn't jump in the way to protect the girl from the cannon blast. 15: will Komon ever be able to survive a traumatic event and not have to have another round of therapy courtesy of Nagi's bitch slap? Though i'm loving mephisto as an opponent, and i love that spinning move that nexus did against him. All in all i'm looking forward to next week despite all the flaws this show has. |
Okay, all caught up.
Having watched episode 15, I'm starting to get reminded of Daimajin Kanon. Komon's seemingly endless downwards spiral into depression is very reminiscent of early series Kanon and her similarly endless moping. Given the overall dark nature of Nexus, I don't think Komon is going to be rediscovering his inner joy and singing his heart out anytime soon. Especially not with Darth Jabi going all Palpatine on his ass at least twice an episode. Is it me, or does Mephisto seem weaker than Faust? Either that or Himeya seriously leveled up since those episodes. Faust was routinely kicking Nexus's ass, but Nexus seems to be faring much better against Mephisto. And oh hey, the next episode has more bipedal molerat and ghost Riko. These aren't starting to get old. :rolleyes So, yesterday I checked out the first couple episodes of the Ultraman series that followed Nexus: Max. It's a very interesting contrast and clearly a reaction to Nexus's darkness and subsequent unpopularity. Max is a much happier and more conventional show - the main character is again a new recruit in the monster-fighting unit (whose CGI jets suck compared to the Chesters, it must be said) - but the relationships are very different. The first episode ends with the female member of the team coming out to confront Kaito (the hero). After fourteen episodes of Nexus I was expecting her to chew him out and tell him to stay out of her way. Instead she was nice and welcomed him to the team. It really threw me after five weeks of Darth Jabi. :lol I think I'm going to keep up with Max while we're doing these Nexus weeks, just for the contrast. |
Fell behind a tad due to a borked 14 and 15 download and being busy these last few weeks. Man, these episodes were mind fuckery all around. Komon being haunted by Riko, Nosfer capturing that family and turning the parents into underling, and then the new Chester blowing Nosfer up...man. I can see why kids wouldn't like this but this is the stuff I love in Toku show. Also, I like how Mizorogi's Ultra form is called Mephisto, after having Faust around. I forget the name of the story of the top of my head, but I like the complete allusion to it. Finally, Nagi being nice? Did hell freeze? Then again, her going on about hating Beasts and fighting solely with the angery is bad. So it's two steeps forward, one step back for her.
