well seeing we have KH Thread we need its Older Sister here as well that is Final Fantasy. so talk from 1 to 15 and all thats in between.

Now we need a Disney thread!

No we dont. It was last three posts before the raw bitching began and it would nothing but pages of anti-Disney flames.

I was just playing this this morning too. Final Fantasy V, one of my absolute favorites. The story comes and goes but I am a whore for a decently done job system, and this has over 200. So I'm in RPG heaven :lol Plus it was free, so there's that.

*Sighs*

Because, I think it's gameplay has been on the rapid decline since 10, and the story has been on the decline since 8.
It's a poor franchise that, when something goes wrong, Square just brings back FF7 in some manner because it'll make the rabid fans blind to all the issues of the most recent release because they can't stop circle jerking over 7.

Honestly, I agree with you. I love XII because it was so different than Seven, and I loved the world of Tactics. But that's why I love playing V. Eight I deleted, I dont remember why I thought that was worth playing again. Aside from Triple Triad.

Because, you know how threads about FF generally goes... i.e. *they changed it now it sucks*

I used to like the serie, but I simply feel I'm not any longer in the target demographic, those new games are not for me anymore, as good as they can be. If I want to play some JRPGs appealing to me today, I have to go the retrogaming way. I like 6/9/12/tactics, mostly for gameplay and artistic direction (good graphics, characters and story are welcome but count less).

The problem with JRPGs is that the market was oversaturated by them in 05, so these days, unless they're the "Big" titles, I don't think they get brought over or with wide releases.

I've yet to play XIII...so...no comment. Though, the demos I played weren't bad. I am glad that XV isn't turn based, since it'll be a nice change of pace. I'm also going to kind of agree, I do think that VII gets a lot of hate as well...or at least it's fans do. As there are two camps generally speaking: 1. Those who think it's the greatest video game ever, and claim that nothing could ever top it. 2. Those who think that all of it's fans are closed-minded pretentious tools who are clinging to nostalgia.

That said. I do think that they need to give VII a break. Yeah, it's really popular, but it would be nice if we got more backstory into other Final Fantasy universes. It got a prequel, and a full-length epilogue movie. It would be nice if other FF games got something like that.

I've never played Final Fantasy 7, some people say that you need to play it at least once in your life. Probably never gonna do it because i don't know anyone that does and i don't have a Playstation.

As far as I am concerned, Final Fantasy IX was the final game in the series. Square went out with a bang by making a finale that was there to commemorate and celebrate all of the previous entries with this game. It was a great grand finale.

Everything after are just interactive movies using the name Final Fantasy because it sells.

My favorite is VI, which was so incredibly fun, well written, has a great cast, and some incredible effects. Next would be IX, then IV, followed by VII, and V. Well, I really enjoy them all (although, III is lackluster), but that would be my top 5 ranking.

Lastly, anything that uses FF XIII in its title are some of the worst video games ever made.

6 is a nice title. I've never actually played it (Only mods), but from what I played, it's great.
I had a friend who also vouched for 9 like mad, but he was also in love with 13, so I had a hard to believing him. Guess that was a mistake.

I despise 10, though. Every FF after 8 sucked something hard, and while 10's gameplay was solid, it made me realize just how much I loathed common character archetypes in JRPGs.

IX, VII, and IV are my favorite Final Fantasies. I love characters from all the series though, and I wear Squall's necklace every day pretty much.

Speaking of FF7, to make it short: it was released at the right time for western players. It's flawed but remains a good game in most aspects.
It's responsible to have bring the 3 members party mandatory for the genra. We usually get lot of characters, using just 3 sucks.

There are 3 groups of FF fans in fact,
- those who started with the 2D 8-16bits era
- those who started with the 32 bits Playstation era
- those who started on later titles (from FFX)
Everyone in those groups think that of course [input the very first FF title played here] is the best.

And I like VI the best followed by IX, THEN VII.
