The Mighty No.9 Kickstarter by Keiji Inafune
So we're getting a new Megaman game…kinda. Keiji Inafune is running a kick starter for Mighty No.9, the spiritual successor to the Blue Bomber:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...o9/mighty-no-9 Currently, only a PC version is announced but if the goal stretches beyond the set amount they'll release it on consoles and other operating systems too. If anyone here is a Megaman fan, I strongly suggest supporting this project if only to give a big F you to Capcom. |
It looks interesting.
|
I want this to fail, because Mega Man fans piss me off, and I want them to see the consequences of their actions.
|
@Matrixbeast: Dude, that's just mean.
Why would you want that to happen? Capcom won't be doing anything Mega Man and Kenji's being nice enough to offer the opinion of getting this ported to consoles. Personal experience? If it makes you feel better I'm hoping Fighting is Magic does well. |

That seems…unbelievably harsh, dude. In what way is it the fan's fault? |

Hell, both projects are awesome ideas that some big company put the kibosh on because of stupidity, and now the idea is getting a new chance. All fueled on Spite and Dreams. Or at least, that's what I see. And damn, I hope Keiji exceeds his goal and goes console. Such joy will sweep the gaming community and such anguish and remorse will hopefully sweep through Capcom.:D |

When 9 and 10 are decried as trying to capture the glory days of the classics, when Starforce is decried as dickriding off Battle Network's popularity, when fans act angry over the cancellation of a generic FPS (That would've been completely decimated on a critical level as being a generic, "Darker and edgier" remake) just because it bore the "Mega Man" name, it's getting ridiculous. Capcom gives the fans what they want, that being Classic Mega Man, and they get torn apart for not being innovative or creative, and just rehashing what worked two decades ago. Capcom gives the fans what they want, that being a unique take on Mega Man, and they get torn apart because it's alien to fans and it's not "Their Mega Man." Capcom gives the fans what they want, that being Mega Man in a crossover fighter. In what's clearly just a joke fighter, they get torn apart because it's not X or Rock. Capcom has made bad decisions, but ultimately ending the Mega Man franchise was not one of them. |
Capcom over saturating the market with rehashes of Megaman games might've not lead it to not being viable that I'll give you…but I still don't understand how this is the entirely the fault of the fan base.
It's kinda difficult to want a support a franchise when Capcom keeps cancelling every new announcement, so I think you gotta try and understand just how frustrated Megaman fans are with Capcom…I mean anyone would be frustrated after one…two, or even three cancelations. |
Luckily this project did get the full $900,000 they were seeking in Kickstarter funds. Very cool that the fanbase could produce that kind of support.

unanswered. Quote:
I hope Mighty No.9 is a big success so Keiji can continue to use his ideas and Capcom realizes their mistake |
I'm glad it's funded and all, but wheres my penguin pirate game thing for 3DS got to Mr. Inafune?
In all seriousness, it looks like it could be a fun game, sure it's just Megaman, but a good game is a good game. |
The game looks fun and everything, and this may sound stupid, but did it really need to be so megaman-like?
There's a Roll 2.0. a Cutman 2.0. and so on, I mean I would rather have the game stand on it's own feet and Inafune reputation, than being supported just because it's the closest we'll get to a megaman game. Just saying, looks fun anyways. |
It's only been two days and already he's made his first stretch goal!
|
it 1.5 mill this morning, and matrixbeast im sorry you have such poor out look on us Mega fans
|
The Kickstarter has 11 hours to go and only needs an additional $130,000 for 3DS & PSVita releases! Can it hit that mark???

The problem is that fans don't know what they want. They bitch when things change, they bitch when things stay the same. They want franchises to stay stagnant. Mega Man spends almost the entirety of the franchise decried as repetitious, so they stop making them, and now the fans act as if Capcom is doing them a disservice? It's angering. Quote:

@matrixbeast:
Forgive me but I do find the idea of you hating Mega Man because of it being as you have stated "repetitious" and yet you are on a tokusatsu website. I love toku but if you want to talk the same thing over and over then it's much, MUCH worse than the Mega Man series. |
His post doesn't actually say he thinks the game is repetitive...
Anyway, following this has been interesting despite knowing next to nothing about Mega Man. Tempted to donate and give it a go myself. |
I threw 'em my money because I like Inafune. I also like well-made 2D platformers that are just fun to play. I like that while their first game, Mighty No.9, is blatantly Mega Man for the community support, the intention is just to start a Japanese indie studio that just makes games that they want to make because they think they'll be fun. Kinda like a Japanese Double Fine.
A lot of indie studios try their hand at retro-inspired platformers, but not all hit their mark in the gameplay aspect, especially in level design. Here we have a team with an actual history of making fun games. |
