Let's Watch Wednesdays Week 10 Ultraman nexus 28-30+DC Discussion
4 episodes this week, one a much needed Director's Cut!
Ren, Illustrator, and the Prometheus Project! The Unknown Hand begins a new game of death with TLT! And who is the mysterious spy after Ren? Where do they fit into the picture? Let's Watch Nexus 28-30 + 29DC! |
Slowly but surely getting caught up, still behind a bit, but really loving this show. I am so glad that it made it to LWW because it has really upped the interest in Ultra on this forum, and more Ultra is always a good thing!
|
Is there any reason to watch 29 and not just skip to the director's cut? Or is there anything in the regular version but not the DC?

I'm on to episode 17. I really need to catch up. Seriously.

Learning about the Prometheus Project and Mizorogi's survival were interesting, and the fact Riko's had last her memories BEFORE the Beastified Parent stuff. I find myself not able to comment much outside of that. Well, I'd be interested in seeing how 29 was before the DC.

The return of Mizorogi and Riko (kid), shows how relevant memories are to the nexus-verse, anyways Mizorogi is apparently powerless right now, but that probably won't last very much.
Ren continues to be a very likeable guy even if his worries over Mizuo hand were a little overbearing. The guys find a chip belonging to a mysteryous guy following Ren, and Illustator's and Ren's past is explained. All that's left now is to wonder what the heck is Raphael. Just two things bothering me this week, Komon's relationship with Ren doesn't feel as natural as the one he had with Himeya, also: birds have bad "Torime" *facepalm* |
Raphael isn't quite what you may think...
|
The only thing that comes to mind is the Ninja Turtle so yeah...
I have no idea what could it be. |
Well it's definitely not that :lol
This set of episodes didn't quite wow me but they were enjoyable. Now next week is where things really heat up. |
I'm caught up through 29. One of the producers or writers must have been brutally dumped by a girl named Riko, because this show is an asshole to Rikos. :lol
Still liking Ren, even if he is a Catcher in the Rye fan (fuck that book. Seriously). Mizuo's growing on me, too, even if I'm still not sure why they gave a 15-year-old girl a driver's license. Actually, I wish we were getting more of them and less of Komon, who I'm actually getting really bored with, even with his newfound l33t haxor skillz (Really? Your password to a top secret organizaiton's classified project is only three letters long - what idiot came up with that idea?). Also, holy crap, did they actually defeat a monster in just one episode? |
See I really like Komon. I love that he's the main character but the story doesn't necessarily revolve around him. He's more a framing device than anything. But he really comes into his own by the end of the series. I still really don't care for Ren though. Again he's better here than he ever was as Kageyama, but he's just not a great fit after how much of a badass Jun was.

So far Ren is more of an standard hero: capable, strong, reckless and happy. Compared to Himeya that had to struggle for any of his victories Kids like strong Ultras. |
I really didn't like Mizurogi and riko being back, when Jun died they pretty much wrapped up his plot, and putting these two back in is just connects to much to the past. I would have much preferred they reveal the new enemy and have had mizurogi and dark mephisto being a part of their master plan. But I did think the story (even if i didn't like it) was well done. and the combat and the introduction of junis blue's finisher was very enjoyable.
I also liked episode 30 where they had Ren and Komon acting all buddy buddy, I really hope that TLT doesn't abduct Ren and kill him like they did with Jun, that would just be annoying. |
You'll like what they do with Mizorogi next week ;)

Finished up to episode 21: Holy god, Mizorogi's back! How does that...? Why...? I have no ideas on what's happening so far. It's enjoyable though.
So far: Nexus isn't a show I'd pick for myself. I prefer happy, upbeat series, rather than things like this, which are dark and pretty grim. I'm glad I started though; Nexus has good action, and likeable characters (apart from Nagi, and even she's lightened up, or maybe shut up, lately). I really like Jun. He's awesome!!! |

I'm caught up through episode 30 now, in which the character moments remind me a lot of Faiz and Komon is outwitted by an amusement park kiddy train. I sometimes feel like if there's ever a time when all of the Ultra protagonists gather together, Komon is probably asked to sit at the special table in the corner. Right next to the 4Kids dub version of Daigo from Tiga. |
I dont get the Komon hate. I really like the guy. Who of the main cast is actually more likeable than him? Ren is just far too happy go lucky and the other major players are almost non existant in the personality department.

Ishibori? Now I actually like him, and Captain Wakura. If any Night Raider should have had the chance to be Nexus it was Wakura. It's the other girl whose name escapes me that I don't care for.
|
I'll write some more thoughts when I finish the 3 episodes, but while watching 29 I have to say the monster is giving me MAJOR Legion vibes (as in the Gamera monster).
