Chris Mowry Talks Godzilla
1 Attachment(s)
Examiner recently had an interview with Chris Mowry, who writes Godzilla Rulers Of Earth(check out a preview for issue Godzilla Rulers Of Earth #4 here!) for IDW. The interview goes beyond Godzilla though, as Pacific Rim and Gamera are asked about too! Don't get your hopes up, but at least we get confirmation that those 2 properties are off limits. Sad face! Now for the Godzilla-relevant parts:

Them making this movie completely different than that 1998 movie can only be a good thing. Even if they make Godzilla the product of an Alien birth or have him dance around in a pink tutu singing There's Trouble in River City, it'd still be better than that 1998 abomination of a Toku movie.

Godzilla 1998 may be a lousy Godzilla film, but its a pretty enjoyable monster movie. |

Sure about that? ;) In all seriousness though, watch it and try to block any relation to "Godzilla" out of your head. Its only the comparisons that make it a bad film. |

It was more than that. Matthew Brodderick, Roger Ebert being Mayor, the offputting blonde reporter who was his love interest and who's name I can't be bothered to remember, the plot. I just didn't enjoy any of it. If you did, more power to you. I mean I have an obsession with a Joyful Deboss, a Landick Angel, and shirtless male Toku heroes (Date, Daigo). So who am I to talk. I just didn't enjoy it. |

I get what you're saying man. I was just being sarcastic and slightly humorous. Trust me, I'm one of the biggest practicers of watching remakes/revisions with an open mind.

I have never had a particular problem with Zilla as a monster. He is not the reason why G'98 is a bad movie. As such I was more than happy to support Godzilla: The Series (which was really quite a good little show) and more than happy to see him pop up in Final Wars as well as in Rulers of Earth as an "official" monster.
Rulers of Earth has been pretty good so far; substantially better than the poor Kingdom of Monsters, but not up to the level of the very strong Godzilla. The parade of obscure monsters has been a big plus in it's favor. If this truly is the last of the IDW Godzilla comics, I just hope it goes out with a bang. Also, Mr. Mowry is totally on point -- anyone who is even remotely a Godzilla fan needs to check out James Stokoe's five issue Half Century War miniseries. It's fantastic. |
