Secondary Education // Science-Themed 90s Tokusatsu Throwback Short Film
Hey Everyone!
Our team recently completed and released a Science-Themed, 90s After School Special throwback Tokusatsu short film called Secondary Education. The film premiered just this week on Justin Lin's YOMYOMF Network on Youtube, and was also featured on Henshin Justice Unlimited by Keith Justice shortly afterwards. We thought it would be perfect for you guys here at Tokunation, and we'd love for you to check it out! ABOUT THE FILM The movie is essentially about three high school kids who find out during after school detention that their Chemistry teacher has been hiding a double secret life as a crime fighting Super Sentai Hero. They have to help him battle an escaped mutant lobster using principles from a Chemistry test that they failed, and in the process learn the value of science. REVIEW ON HENSHIN JUSTICE UNLIMITED SECONDARY EDUCATION, The Independent Toku You Have GOT to See! http://henshinjustice.com/2013/09/25...ve-got-to-see/ Please feel free to post comments or responses for us here. We really hope you like our film!!! |
That was pretty fun. I do wish the teacher was the focus, and not the students, but eh. I still enjoyed it. The hero's design was nice and giant lobsters are always good villains :p

That was fantastic. Easy to get into, fun, and a perfectly condensed little film. The whole chemistry thing wasn't nearly as overplayed as it tends to be in a lot of media. I hope to see more stuff like this in the future!

Nice. But a true tokusatsu hero uses a changer. :p Still, it does show how much science affects us in our lives.

This was great. The costumes were of pretty awesome quality, the acting was great, the camera was great, and the best part, you didn't come in here being a pretentious ass and beg us for money.
A+ in my book. I'd love to see more of these PSAs that end up saving the day sort of mini episodes. |
That was a lot of fun, and hey a toku hero that has to put his suit on, that's new. :lol

I really enjoyed this. Your fondness of the toku genre really comes through and I think that really helps make the piece stronger.
Thank you for sharing this with us! |
I don't know how I missed this (I blame the work schedule).
This was absolutely amazing. You guys really, really hit the head on the nail and created a 12 minute masterpiece. No joke. Every little detail (from the Salty candy) to the chemistry quiz is brought in to the story for a purpose which, by the end of the film, we see. Great writing, likable characters, a fun-looking suit, an even funner hero in the teacher, and music that fits the setting perfectly. |

Hahaha, wow, I'm glad that the short brings back nostalgic memories of so many different toku shows for so many of you guys. I haven't even heard of some of them; I'm going to have to check them out!
Anyhow! Eric Lim, the star and executive producer of this film, wanted me to make a quick post to connect you guys with two of his films that were part of how we ended up teaming up to do Secondary Education in the first place. Eric was actually doing Toku stuff, WAY WAY before Secondary Education was even an idea, and that mostly manifested itself as two short films: ZERO TROOPER F, and GREENSIDE. They're a bit long though, at about 37 and 42 minutes each, respectively, so if any of you are willing to dive in, set aside a good hour and a half and buckle up, lol! http://b.vimeocdn.com/ts/289/561/28956185_640.jpg https://vimeo.com/6650433 Eric finished Zero Trooper F in 2008. After watching it, I've sort of told people that Zero Trooper F is a bit like Ultraman and Science Patrol meets The Graduate, with a sort of Wes Anderson-commercial indie flair that sort of came around in full force in the 2000s. http://b.vimeocdn.com/ts/289/549/28954985_640.jpg https://vimeo.com/6729867 Eric finished Greenside in 2009. It's sort of a loose sequel to Zero Trooper F in that it follows the same Universe centered around the Action Team F, but years and years later after society has been driven to a more fascist state. I've heard people say on the internet that Greenside is pretty much the same movie as Elysium, but with more martial arts, lol. You guys let me know what you think. |
