Additional Interview With Bandai Of America at NYCC 2013
 

Once again our very own administrator Sentai Tamashii has sat down with Bandai Of America reps to discuss the upcoming Power Rangers Super Megaforce toyline!

Super Megaforce Ranger figures
will be divided into 4" and 5" categories. 4" figures will feature less articulation and paint apps compared to the 5" figures.

Legendary Zords and Vehicles
All additional vehicles/zords that can combine with the Legendary Megazord will come with a Ranger Key specific to the series the vehicle represents. The other vehicles shown to be able to combine with the Legendary Megazord on display will have uniform names. "Insert series name" Cycle. So for the bikes on display currently they'd be the Lightspeed Rescue Cycle and the Time Force Cycle. The Zeo vehicle seen on display is called the Red Battlezord Car. And the 2 additional robots seen on display in front of the Legendary Megazord are called Exozords and can accommodate Ranger figures to pilot them.

Ranger Keys
will initially be sold with other toys in the line. They will later be sold in a 3-Pack format but there are currently NO PLANS to offer the keys in full ranger team sets. Additionally the flip gimmick is not activated by any sort of button at all. You push the edge of the key and it flips automatically. The Wild Force Red Lion Zord also features a ranger key gimmick. One can be inserted behind it's head but there are no electronics present for it to activate. Only an action feature.

And this rounds out our last interview with BOA at NYCC 2013! On behalf of the entire community we'd like to thank them for sitting down to take the time to have a discussion with Sentai Tamashii! The Exo-Squad fan in me does like ExoZords...

No team packs for keys? I wonder what the assortments for the 3-packs will be like, then... That's rather lame in my opinion. :/

So that's what they are. I actually like how the Exo Zords look, so depending on price, I might actually pick them up. As for the keys, it sucks that they might not do team packs, but then again I wasn't really going to get them a whole lot anyways.

Looking at the back of the boxes, they'll be 3 males from each series, except Ninja Storm which gets Blue. All hope for the girls is probably on the blind packs.

So what, all the springs are for are a slightly more assisted flip then the JP ones and not an actual auto-flip gimmick?

... I enlarged the picture of the Exo-Zords (And I love their look close-up. Especially the headsculpt on Gokai-Oh's where it looks like it has long piratey hair) and I caught sight of Lion there in the upper-left corner? .. Is that a missile in his mouth? Is that the key-gimmick? It fires a missile? .-. I dont know how to feel about that.

It does look like a missile. Ummm, that's, something.

What's worst, is that the "Fire" symbol isn't even in his mouth anymore. Just like the "Heaven" symbol its just awkwardly sitting in a place it shouldn't be, visible in modes it shouldn't be visible in. Gokaioh's "Rekka Daizantou" (Fire Smasher in PR? Or was that the name of the attack) is also awkardly sticking out of his butt, instead of being hidden in Lion form. Total lack of effort on this guy.

So, three-pack Ranger Keys only? I'm assuming it's just the "Guy" Ranger Keys also. Way to give female Rangers the finger yet again, Bandai.

I understand that Power Rangers is a franchise for boys, but come on.

i dont care about perfection with the zords because it's just paint, if it functions like the show im down for it even though it doesnt have the pop up gimmick, that doesnt really bother me.

because the gokaiger zords pop up gimmick was a pain in rear anyway, they couldnt even stay in so why bother keeping that?

i wish the gokaiger fans would just accept for the boa has done for us because they could easily just give us nothing and spend kings ransom on gokaiger merch and it's pretty much what you have to spend if you want perfection on the boa merchandise, i mean is that what you want?

is it fair for other people that cant afford that, have to spend that much money? you really think people can deal with that? it's crazy.

I'm assuming you have never, ever handled any of the Gokaiger mech before. Mine has zero problems and I have every one. Even then, you don't need to have the pop up gimmick, even just having the hinges open and plugging the pieces in would be a vast improvement.

But they don't, that's the problem. With Samurai, they did for the most part, with Megaforce, they did, but here they don't. The "opening" gimmick is an extremely noticeable visual part of Gokaioh in all of his modes. If all of the parts aren't opening, automatically or otherwise, it isn't functioning like the show at all.
Even younger kids will notice that in the show he opens everywhere, I know I'd be incredibly bothered by it.

No, people don't need to pay import costs if they don't want to, but BOA should put the effort into making the toys resemble what's in their show, even if some paint apps and gimmicks are nixed. In fact, you could say that's waht makes it unfair, BOA are giving a vastly inferior product to the exact same aged target audiences.

Hell, in Australia, BOA products even have pretty much the exact same retail price (or more) as the BOJ's product's retail price.

Thr entire point is that this year, just like the last several, the toys DONT fucntion like they do on show. They make completely inaccurate combinations and dont transform properly at all. BOA is getting better but it's nowhere near being accurate. Having samurai emblems clearly visible and the Fire Smasher just poking out the back is entirely wrong.

While I don't really have an issue with the Fire Smasher sticking out the way it does, where exactly is the Shinken GokaiOh helmet on that thing? Is it that black bit precariously perched on top?

The GaoLion doesn't look bad to me either. I don't mind the Smasher, and the Lion itself looks really damn good. I just don't like the missile-key gimmick in the head. Seems.. Added on.

Just figured something out...

TRU has 14 listings for Ranger Key Multi Packs. There are 3 in each pack? 3 x 14 = 42. There are 42 keys on the back of the Legendary morpher box. There is your assortment of key packs.

That with I dont think there are girl keys means no complete sets, unless the blind bags will have girls...

Looks like I was wrong about the figures. I had read about 4" and 6" figures, but this is the first mention of 5" figures I've seen. Kinda sucks that the 4" figures are being simplified. I was kinda hoping the future PR figures would be on-par with the Megaforce ones. This is probably going to sound stupid, but I was planning on building a Ranger team using members from different seasons/shows. Mix things up instead of having an entire team wearing essentially the same outfit in different colors. I already have a Megaforce pink figure.

That MMPR green Ranger figure that was on display, what size was it?

The key three packs don't sound like a bad idea, initially anyways. Two three packs could cover the entire MMPR team, but at the same time there's no guarantee that if they release one pack with say, red, blue, and black, that they'll also release a set of yellow, pink, and green.

As for the zords, I'm not really interested in any of them, though they do look kinda cool.

The Green MMPR figure was the Armored Might version.

Thank you. I was hoping that was the case. I KNEW they would do a MMPR green Ranger figure in that line. Any idea who else they plan on doing?

THANK YOU! so the three key packs are whats going to be whats 7.99 at stores and the blind packs are what the girls are coming in? Thats kind of lame but at the same time brings the thrill of the hunt..so its conflicting really but still kind of worth it with the awesome Legendary Morpher.

The back of the Legendary Morpher and megazord box shows 42 keys. TRU shows listings for 14 key packs. Like I said before, at 3 keys per pack and 14 packs, that adds up to the 42 on the back of the box.

As it has been stated we do not know everything that is coming out. Also at SDCC they had what looked like all of the keys on display and in the pics for NYCC you can see MMPR pink so really its just wait and see.

Screw Kimberly. I need, Need, a Goseiger/Megaforce Yellow Moune/Gia Key.

Actually, I wouldn't count it at all. Look at the key on the back of the box. They removed the skirt. That's a straight-up male key.

this is only for the spring wave, they still have silver's stuff and probably those teams menioned are probably going to be part of the fall wave including the dairanger keys if that's true.

so let's not jump down bandai's throat because they know how important that this is a merch show, they will not disappoint us.

if it was disney, it would be a different story.

14 sets to get through is a big number, I think its safe to assume that's a few waves there. Plus, considering BOA, I'd be surprised if all 14 even make it to shelves in the first place.

You do realize Bandai has been in control of the toyline throughout Power Ranger's ENTIRE run, right? Saban AND Disney.

Besides, I thought after Samurai and Megaforce the incredibly stupid (and wrong) "Disney was so much worse" band wagon had crashed.

That's... Bizarre.

Keep in mind multi packs come 12 to a case.

And no female rangers except Ninja Storm Blue, which it turns out they made male anyway.

Which makes my reasoning all the more likely :lol

I keep seeing people mentioning key blind packs, yet no mention of them in any of the reports from NYCC. Were key blind packs confirmed and I just missed that bit?

Also, was there any mention/hint at a possible retrofire styled figure of the new Megazord?

I think Raz found them in TRU and Target's system.

That stinks that there are no female ranger keys basically. Not like they couldn't do one in every three pack as a female since individual keys aren't likely to happen.

Ok, I wasn't aware of all those listings. It definitely sucks that none of the three-packs have any female Rangers. I realize Power Rangers is still mostly a boy driven fanbase, but... that just doesn't make any sense. I wonder who will be available in the blind packs. The remaining male Rangers are bound to make it, but I would hope for at least some of the female Rangers.

Reading through the listings, some of the 5" figures sound interesting, even if they'l be larger than the pink Ranger I have now. Also, I'm not going to plan on getting any of them till they come out and I see who all I can actually find at retail.

Found two more zord vehicles similar to delta runner and mystic dragon. Walmart calls them ninja zord and lion zord.
