S.H.Figuarts Kamen Rider Kabuto Renewal Previewed
2 Attachment(s)
S.H.Figuarts has come a long way since beginning with the First and the Next Riders.
Kamen Rider kabuto was one of the first Heisei Riders to be released in the line, and sometime ago it was announced that he will be receiving a new Renewal figure. Recent magazine scans previewed this figure, comparing the old with the new. The figure on the left is the 2.0 release while the toy on the right is the one that's currently out. Further release Details TBa. |
Which one is which?

I never thought their was anything wrong with the Kabuto Figuarts, and yet the new one looks SO much better.
|
Absolutely love that!

The old Kabuto styled riders are all pretty lackluster. Weirdly lanky proportions, bowed hips on the earliest releases, narrow heads. The Renewal looks to have solved those problems. So glad I sold off my original in anticipation for this!

Bought.
Anyone want an old model Kabuto? :lol Look at that armor, that head. So much better, not strangely lanky and spread open. |
That new one looks really awesome.

Looks so much better

Glad I never got around to buying Kabuto, this one will be mine.

Looks great! Hopefully Gatack and Sasword get remakes as well. Oh an Drake. :lol
|
Whoops. I just filled out a Mandarake order with a dirt-cheap Kabuto a week or so ago. The new one is pretty swanky looking.
|
I file this under cool story bro. It looks good, but I already have a Kabuto and I don't like Tendou enough to double dip.

Meh, I only see a slight difference, so I will need better pictures. I'll probably hold off though unless they plan to make all of the Kabuto riders in that style as I'd rather have everyone match.
|
Ooh. I got all tingly from the new hands. I don't really find too much fault with my ver 1 kabuto, but I can't resist this figuart.
|
I fully welcome a changeover to more Figma-esque hands. 2 breakages out of 50 odd figures is still too many as far as I'm concerned, especially when both were web exclusives.
|
It might be the way the photo and figures are angled, but the new one looks thicker overall then the original!

I welcome the new hand thing. Can't wait to see what other 2.0 versions they have in the works. |
Peg and hinged wrist joint? Oh hell no. While I could see the argument about the hips, this is 100% a step backwards.

Might because Ive never had those style hands in hand, but if they are better good. If it wont really matter, keep it the way it is.
|
I'm eh on the new hands for now until we see clearer pics of them or more pics of Kabuto.
Swapping to Figma-like wrist pegs could kinda reduce breakage, not by much but a bit, but it would also mean we lose all the motion the wrists currently have unless they either plan to give us more hand options or found a way to keep the ball joint range of motion. |
Who's to say there isn't a ball joint in the wrist and the peg simply attaches it to the forearm? Now that could be perfect. As long as hand swapping is no longer dependent on the scary practice of forcing hands over ball joints then I'm happy.

I'm okay with this change, actually.
Pegs makes switching hands on Figma a lot easier. On Figuarts it's a bit of a pain when you have to deal with things like Double's anklets or OOO's claws wanting to fight you at every turn. |

Eh, I'd only pick it up if I was certain they were doing all of them. I'd rather have a shelf with all of them than just one or two slightly better looking ones.
|
I never bought Kabuto because I don't like the awkward look of the figuart. I will however get the Renewal one, since they fixed all the stuff that is wrong with the original.
|
Am I the only one that sees the old Kabuto and doesn't see a problem :lol

I was already in love with this figure when I first saw the comparison this morning. I need a regular Kabuto in my life and it looked like perfection. This, as small as it may be to some, feels like it's changing everything for Figuarts. And I'm ready for it. With the few figmas I have, the peg hand system just works. Ball joints for SHFs don't always. This is something I'm very open to. |
