Gaoranger DX Gaolleries 2 of 15 - Gao Giraffe & Elephant
 

It's time for a double dose of Power Animals! In our second gallery celebrating Power Rangers Wild Force we take a look at DX Gao Giraffe & Gao Elephant from Hyakuju Sentai Gaoranger!

When Gao King equips Gao Elephant it becomes Gao King Sword & Shield, and when equipping Giraffe it become Gao King Spear. The simultaneous use of both creates Gao King Spear & Shield!

Both of these figures were released individually at first, Giraffe was later collected into the Gao Icarus Boxed set. As single releases they include their own clear yellow Gao Jewel figures! When used in combination with the spherical Gao Jewel cases they can interact with the Beast Blades and the later released Falcon Summoner.

Hey Den-O, just want to check. The Giraffe's legs are not clicky joints, are they?

Actually they are clicky. They ratchet into 4 positions.

They aren't the types of toys that are pretty too look at but turn to dust the moment you touch them... are they?

Are the positions locked decently well? Like a true ratchet joint? Sorry for asking, trust me I'm getting somewhere with this. :lol

Not at all. These babies have withstood the test of time. Despite being nearly 13 years old they are still better engineered than most of the sentai DX mecha released since them Very quality toys.
They do lock decently, nice strong joints.

To think that if Gaoranger aired only one year later, the QC issues would be nuts! (We've all seen Hurricanger, the hell happened there?)

As a testament, my Animus (GaoGod, but mine was Animus) managed to survive my childhood (The sawshark is missing it's saw and tail, but otherwise, it's surprisingly intact).
In contrast, I'm reading so many horror stories about current DX mecha it makes my head spin.

I could probably piledrive a Wild Force/Gaoranger mech and it'd come out unscratched, but a 2 foot fall off a shelf onto soft carpeting seems to be able to destroy any DX sentai mech released in the last 2 years...

That's the final bit of proof I need that the Korean versions of GaoRanger toys are vastly inferior. My GaoGiraffe has such terribly weak lock positions in its joints that you wouldn't know it had any if you didn't try to feel for them. They're effectively friction swivel joints, which made me confused when I first handled them, since Bandai never uses friction joints for Zord legs. It's the same for the Falcon and the Deer, absolutely nothing locks in! On GaoIcarus, the only things that go clicky-clicky are the shoulders and the Rhino hips and knees. EDIT: Not even the knees click! And only the right one locks in place!

Plus, the plastic is really light and poor, and I can see stress marks on the connectors.

Advice to anyone out there thinking of the Korean versions. While they may be good for other Sentai lines, I am convinced the Gaoranger ones really dropped the ball.

I will always recommend the BOJ releases over the Korean "Power Rangers" releases. They are of a vastly inferior quality. ComicGuy89's story is not an isolated incident. Trust me as someone who is deep down the rabbit hole on Gaoranger toys, out of BOJ, BOA, or Bandai Asia, the BOJ release are leagues above. The BOA releases are decent and actually add features that otherwise weren't present in some cases (Bison, Falcon). But if you can afford it go for the BOJ ones.

The Bandai Asia ones that they sell in Hong Kong are equivalent to the BOJ ones, just with a sticker indicating its Hong Kong distribution. In this respect they're like the ShinkenOh released in American TRUs. Some electronics may be softer due to Hong Kong noise laws but otherwise they're the same.

On the other hand, the Korean and some (mainland) Chinese versions (like the Abaranger ones) are usually not repackaged toys but manufactured separately like Bandai of America's. That's why they're often inferior in quality.

So shiney o_o Elephant was always one of my favorites, that and Stag.

These are, like, the best sentai mechs ever. I want them so bad. They look great in zord form, look great combined, and have interesting and unique combinations and transformations.

They really don't make 'em like this anymore. I really want GaoGod, or Black Gaoking. Oh, and Gaohunter. Fuck, I want them all kinda.

Gaoranger was really one of those "revolutionary lines" wasn't it? The difference between Gaoranger and Timeranger mecha is as big as the difference between Zyuranger and Jetman. Gaoranger started this wide stance thing that bots still use today. :)

It's also an ancestor to Zord Builder in a way.

And in other news, of any Korean Gaoranger toy, would the plentiful Korean Gao Elephant be a fairly permissible temporary non-permanent placeholder for the elusive Japanese Gao Elephant?

Don't settle for that when you can easily have the real thing, quite affordably as well!

Those 3 are Lucky Draws that can fetch upwards of $300-400, but they will be mine. One day.

Both. Lucky Draws are produced in very low numbers. I've seen several of each color for sale in the last year but have never had the scratch available to buy one.

One is Korean. You didn't specify.

The chrome release only came out in mainland Asia/Korea. So that's th eonly way to get them anyway. I need them so bad. Why Tamashii Web have so many expensive things this month? :( Did I mention I love being broke.
