What has been the worst performing Sentai?
 

We all know that Go-Busters did not do we in the ratings or profit department but I've been wondering something. What have been other series that have underperformed?

Can anyone back up their mentions with solid numbers?

No, Goseiger didn't do that badly, although it was the start of the current ratings decline. Go-Busters is officially the lowest rated Sentai ever. It averaged a 4.0% rating, taking away the crown for lowest rated series from Ohranger, which averaged 4.5%.

Man, it's been a pretty consistent decline over the last 10 years or so. I wonder if it has to do with the rise of mobile phones and internet. Or maybe with Japan's rapidly declining birth rate.

It's also interesting that Kamen Rider's ratings are all over the place and not consistent at all.

Now the final question, is there any info out there on how profitable these series were. I would love to compare and contrast profitability with popularity.

That was a really fun resource. Sentai viewership has really gone through the floor but if anything Kamen Rider's decline seems even greater, as it seemed to start with a much higher viewership in the first place.

It seems, weirdly enough, that any sentai that goes too much in a single direction is disliked. So as much as dark and gritty sentai have failed in the past, a near enough all comedy series is just as off putting to the Japanese audiences it seems.

Maybe TrainBoys'll strike that balance.

Which means in Bandai's eyes the show might be a success. Let's be honest, Sentai exists to push toys.

That's not uncommon. Gokaiger's ratings were pretty dire, too, but the toy sales were absolutely through the roof. And so long as the toys keep selling, Bandai will keep giving Toei money to make new shows.

So are the toy sales doing well? All I hear is complaints of poor quality, and that comes from the kind of collectors who probably handle their toys with rubber gloves on. And if they are getting breakages, what is happening with the kids leaping off of settees and running their toys through the mud?

I can see where some breaks may occur but I've not had a single issue with any of my figures. I mean, if you treat any toy badly it's going to break. Are you sure you're not talking about the SH Figuarts because I know they Kyoryuger figures are having issues.

They toy quality of the Japanese is amazing compared to the US toys. I've seen both the Tensouder and the GoseiBlaster in both versions and I think the Japanese toys are much better and can take much more.

The Gaburevolver from Kyoryuger sells extremely well. I heard it sells as good as the Rider Belts usually do.

Although I am aware the Japanese toys are usually better than that of the American counterparts, it isn't a consistent thing though is it? It isn't that the Japanese toys are always good, they are just always better than the American counterparts.

Of course there are bad toys in japan but even the bad toys have outstanding quality when compared to the us versions.

Toys selling crazy would lift a low-rated show up. That's why Ohranger and Gokaiger (some of the best-selling toys in Super Sentai) are considered successes while Go-busters (which had poor selling toys AND poor ratings), was not.

No, it's the mecha, their clips have been a bit faulty in design and are fragile. Even Den-O, who takes utmost care of his toys, has had a few problems with them. At any rate, Super Sentai mecha should never be more fragile than Transformers, and should be able to withstand rough play considering how young their intended consumers are.

It's been two years with the same type of clip problems (Go-busters' Gorilla and Kyoryuger's Gabutyra), I really hope they fix this for Tokkyuger. Although, I have heard rumors that second and third batch Kyoryuger toys have improved quality, but I don't know if there's enough evidence of that yet. :(

Oh wow, I haven't heard of this. I have a friend who owns the Kyoryuger mechas, but he never mentioned anything about this.
I'm more into RP Toys and stuff, so I can just talk about those.

I'm going to put my two cents into this pot. I hate Super Sentai with a burning passion. Its bad enough I watch Power Rangers... but Sentai is just goofy and at times very off putting.

KyoRyuger? Probably on my top twelve list of Japanese Shows. =)

Yeah that was my original point, I wasn't trying to decry the quality of Japanese toys. :lol

It has nothing to do with treating the toys badly and everything to do with the clip system used with the Kyoryugers. The clips simply are bad at supporting the weight of some pieces (most often the Jyudenryu arms) and lose their grip. My Pteraidenoh, which was on the shelf in Western mode, simply lost its grip on the right clip and now needs a piece of plastic wedged in to force the clip to close inorder to support arms and that's not from touching it, that's just from leaving it on the shelf. This is also common on Gabutyra's arm clips and back clip, although mine fortunately has had no issues.Clips losing their grip is extremely common across the whole line, go to any Kyoryuger thread on any toy forum and see how many people have it happen to their toys. Apparently one of the Go-Buster mecha that had the same clip also shared the problem, but I haven't collected Go-Buster to confirm.

How do you hate Sentai for its goofiness and love Kyoryuger? :lol

Yeah I really wish they'd fix this. Clips were never a problem in older lines, my Power Rangers in Space Astro Megazord uses clips extensively and *touch wood* is still solid for a very old toy.
