In Hand Images of Power Rangers Super Megaforce Legendary Megazord
14 Attachment(s)
Once again, with permission and thanks to our friend and member Linear Ranger (please follow him on Twitter @LinearRanger) we have now put up all of the images that he shared with his brand new Power Rangers Super Megaforce Legendary Megazord! The toy is the US adaption of the Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger GokaihOh.
For starters, we have known since SDCC 2013 that the Legendary Megazord was going to be smaller and have a number of changes compared to it's Super Sentai counterpart. At NYCC 2013 we saw that the combinations appeared to be different thanks to the back of the packaging that we exclusively had photos of here at TokuNation.com. So here we go!
All in all, the toy looks to be a fun addition to any one who enjoys the US side of the Megazords, especially the kids, however for those collectors hoping to replicate their favorite episodes from Gokaiger, they may want to stick to the higher priced GokaiOh. As is normal, you pay more to get more. The fun thing we have to look forward to is what other combinations are going to release, as the back of the box shows an upcoming Zeo combination that looks to be US-exclusive. Are you going to get on the Sky Ship Zord and become Legendary? Let us know! Again - these images are posted with permission from Linear Ranger. Please take a moment and follow him @LinearRanger on Twitter! |
Wow that is absolutely awful in comparison.
|
Zord Builder ports everywhere! :D
|
Is that a zeo homage zord I see
|
Considering it's the only way I'll afford Gokai-Oh..
|
So how long until guncannon109 makes ZordBuilder abominations that incorporate the Legendary Megazord's abundant pegs?
Because his ZordBuilding is awesome!! |
That is indeed a Zeo V Red Battlezord homage you see making a new Megazord combination.

I'm not a fan of those ports and the limbs not being able to open but other than that it looks like a good representation. I'll probably grab this.
|
It looks like I might get the Japanese version instead. My four year old little cousin will likely love it since he loves pirates.
|
You know what? I'll gladly get Gokaioh instead of the Legendary Megazord. It may cost a lot more, but at least I'd be getting a show-accurate toy.

I think I get how Den-O feels when he sees BoA versions of the toys he owns. Gokaioh is a figure I actually have and the paint differences really just jump out at me.
In the USA it's not a bad option for its price, but here it the Megaforce Megazord already costs $59 ($54 USD). At that price I could just scrounge up some more for the Korean version, at least. |

I understand your feelings, at their original price BoA toys aren't that bad, but with the price increase in other countries they are rarely are worth it if you can go for the imports. |

Paint issue are minor and mainly sliver and gold, Just like Gosei great. If those are the only issues I'm sold, All it took to fix Gosei great was an afternoon with some metallic paint markers.
|
It's like a mini version. I kinda get why they went with Zord-builder pegs instead of doors that open, but the lack of a cannon is disappointing.
I wonder if they'll eventually do a special US release of Gokaioh, like they did for ShinkenOh and Gosei Great? |

I remember seeing pictures of it along with Legacy Megazord and "Nippon Edition" Samurai Megazord (ShinkenOh), but I have yet to see it in stores. Just assumed they were going to release it down the road, but I suppose it could have been cancelled, or just a mis-leading photo in the first place.

Though I also understand that you get what you pay for, that they make cheaper toys for a cheaper market. More aimed towards children and all that. As a collector I don't necessarily get to complain when the more cost effective thoys they're making here are meant for non-collectors/children. While I personally think removing the opening compartments was a mistake, I can see how the pegs will work. I can appreciate how the new US exclusive vehicles will attach using them. They are a bit obtrusive looking though. There's some cool stuff here if they run with the new vehicles. And the retracting plank piece is a nice touch as well. |
I'm not a fan of the obvious missing paint spots and the compartments not opening, but, this is meant for kids so I can't really complain. I have mixed feelings about zord builder though. It's nice that you can swap to create your own but when it gets to the point where they have to change to adapt and those changes are not what I'd like, well.... I'll probably get the Japanese version. But. This looks like fun too.

I just want to reiterate, as I know a lot of people jump on the "BANDAI AMERICA SUCKS" bandwagon.
Power Rangers is intended for kids. These toys, more so than other franchises we may or may not have followed in previous years, are designed for kids to bang them in to each other without breaking. A number of features in GokaiOh just wouldn't translate over to a kid-friendly toy. But Bandai America has a good thing going with the zord builder system and this is an inexpensive and, in my opinion, quality alternative. Plus they're going to do things like we see with the Zeo Red Battlezord homage which I think is really awesome. If you're against it, don't buy it! But remember it's meant for the 5 year old in your family, not the 25 year old with the disposable income to afford the import version. |
I've always been of the mind that Gokaioh itself is a terrible desgn. The pirate ship I get, but a truck, racecar, jet and submarine? that's the most random, lazy assortement of vehicles ever, and it's combination is really crude and the (pretty lame) gimmick means all the limbs are just blocks.
I don't find the Legacy Megazord better or worse. In fact, maybe better, since it no longer has really poorly designed doors hanging off when it combines. |
Or the 18 year olds who have the tendency to spend money on importing films and music :lol
|
This guy is actually pretty cool. It definitely doesn't solve all of the problems I had with Gokai-Oh, but a lot of the inclusions (retracting plank, Zordbuilder everywhere, jointed yellow zord) do make up for it here. The smaller size also makes all of the colors look more condensed, so the missing paint isn't as obvious.
My verdict is actually pretty positive for a design that I've never liked at all. |
I'll probably end up getting the Legendary Megazord to review and check out, but I can't see myself owning it for long. I'd probably just end up returning it or selling it to someone else.

Also, what's the "jointing" on the yellow zord I hear? How's that different?
|
I think on the original the "cab" on yellow detaches and reattaches to form the foot.

Glad I got my DX Gokai-Oh. The US version looks awful by comparison.

Like Sentai said on page one,it's the affordable one,and honestly for it being America's version it's not to bad.We keep setting bench marks by comparing them to the originals, when Bandai has the ability to actually shrink down the megazord and make it affordable. Not only that, but give exclusive combinations to the american one.
With a little touch up paint,it would be the perfect Megazord.Heck,I'd buy it and keep it just as is.(You have to admit, they have gotten better with their designs and paint) |
I'm thankful we're at least getting Gokaiger-ish toys locally.
|
I get the downsizing and intigration of the gimmick. I just don't think it is as good as gokai-oh as a representation of the show. but then again it's for kids, not collectors who know of differant "better" versions. In the end, for me at least, how about Gokai-No.

Yeah, it looks crap, but I was expecting that, so I'm not surprised. Its not a little disappointment like the Legendary Morpher, its about what I expected. I'm happy with Gokaioh, he's a big beautiful and super fun mecha and my absolute favourite along with Magiking, so I wont pick this up like I did for the last two main Megazords to go along with the SS mecha counterparts. But to be perfectly honest, outside of the paint, the figure doesn't look bad by itself, but when you couple how badly the gimmicks have been handled and the size, then the whole package becomes pretty terrible. i'm just sad i wasted a perfectly good pun.

A little bit of a paint touch-up, and this shall do quite nicely for me especially as I'm far from being in the mood to care about hunting down the individual Gokai add-ons on the aftermarket.
Also, no OhRanger add-on in Japan. Makes me wonder if we'll be seeing other U.S. exclusive add-ons or retools of existing creations (If you look close enough, you can kinda see that the Zeo Car thing is a retool of the SPD Car, and I could honestly care less that it is, because it's a insane idea and homage.) Gosei Ultimate would be damn near impossible to sell considering no parent is going to buy little Jimmy a $100 toy after buying him a $60 Gosei Great. |
