Power Rangers Megaforce Season Poll
Today is the day, Folks. The Finale of Megaforce and the last new episode until Super Megaforce premieres in Febuary. We've been through alot with these Rangers and stuck by them for an entire year (Seemed like two with how Nick scheduales things, but that's another thread!).
How do you rate these Rangers? How do you rate the Story? How do you rate the Villians? How do you rate the Writing? How do you rate the lead-up into Super? How do you rate the Characters? How do you rate the Mechs and Weapons? Leave your opinions now! Go Go MegaForce! |
Over all I voted Good. It wasn't the worst season I've ever seen, Lord knows it wasn't Operation Overdriver or Jayden's Bowlcut. But it wasn't Mystic Force or Jungle Fury either.
The Rangers I'd rate like this: Troy gets himself a two. Poor. Compare him to Alata and he gets a Minus Billion, but compared to Jayden he gets a Plus Five. He just couldn't act. I'm sorry, he's stiffer then a dead body and just as emotionless. A perfect example is the last episode with Creepox/Dureputa. "Look in my eyes, do you see tears" No, Troy. No tears. But I don't see a soul either. Emma gets a four. She started horribly but she's really grown on me has more then a Eco-Sensitive Cliche'. I mean, shes's still that, but there's more there now to balance it out a little. Jake gets a four. He's become one of my favorites. Watching him fail with Gia at every turn is genuinelly funny, and that poor man has yet to finish a Smoothie. I'm glad he's part of this season. Gia gets a five and that shouldn't surprise anyone. Nothing to do with her being Gosei Yellow, everything to do with her. Ciara has been excellent with fans and Gia has become an amazing Yellow Ranger. I love her to no end. Noah gets a four. He's really grown over the past couple months and become more then the token nerd. The episode where he tries to be stronger and weilds Jake's axe is one of my favorites. RoboKnight gets a four. I hated his ass. I wanted to hate him forever. I wanted him to die, and continue dying, for my endless amusement. But then he had to become awesome. Yes he's a Captain Planet and Robocop bastard-child, but he's awesome still. The Story I'd rate five. It started slow, but now has snowballed towards the Finale has this giant ball of awesomesauce. Troy's visions (Which I hope they explain and just don't ignore when MF starts), Warstar, right down to the brand new Metal Alice American-Only footage. I love it all. The Villians. You have to ask? Five. Beyond Five. Much like Tensou Sentai Goseiger before it, Vrak/Bureduran No Comet/Bureduran No Chupacabra/Bure-RUN/Brajira of the Messiah is the absolute joy of the villians. His voice acting is just amazing, his character is just as much a bastard as he was in Goseiger. So damned smooth. And I pray to Gosei that he's in alot of Super Megaforce. And it's not just my mancrush on Vrak, either. All the villians were excellent. Yes, Creepox wasn't has absolute badass as he was in Goseiger. But Metal Alice was more badass. Malkor was excellent. The voice acting for villians this season has just been wonderful. I loved them all. The writing has been a three, for me. Honestly. It's been getting so much better, but it started off so My God Ears Are Bleeding! Horrible. But they really hit their stride with the coming of SMF. Especially with the Armada, making Vrak part of their Royal Family, the Messenger. Metal freaking Alice. The leadup to Super? Oh that's a five. Especially recently. The Characters get a two just because you hardly see anyone from the school anymore. That teacher only got a cameo when Vrak brought the Warstar ship down, Ernie was in a goodbit of the Halloween episode but nothing hardly before or since. They went from focusing on the school to "They're in school? Since when?". The Mechs and Weapons. Five. If that surprises you, at all, you haven't been paying enough attention :lolol |
Grate ep. Can't wait for super megaforce. But i was hopping for a super megaforce add at the end. That was a let down.

I appreciate this feedback, but this isn't the last episode discussion :lol

Rangers -
Red - 3 kindof bland, hope he will be a little more like Marvelous next season(even a little would be great) Pink - 3.5 she did have great episodes for her, but when the episode did not feature her she didn't stand out much Blue - 3.5 He is a token nerd but had a better personality then troy Black - 4 he and Gia where the most fun to watch Yellow- 4 same as jack those two where fun to watch Robo Knight- 3.9 I don't hate his voice, just it was annoying to see him go on about how he didn't understand humans, But when he wanted to be he was a total bad*** Story- 3.5 Not to many surprises, but not much wasted time in the short 20 episodes and had a great ending Villains - I agree with Sentai, Vark and the gang were great, they didn't have any bumbling idiots and they did try to best the rangers Writing - 2 I blame the writing for Troy, I feel the actor could have done a better job but with some chessy lines and not much screen time for our leader he feels like a reverse Daigo lead-up into Super-5 I can't wait for Super MegaForce next year, ending with an army invading was awesome Characters-2 they were fun but hardy saw any of them Zords and Weapons- 5 when ever the rangers get there own weapons, and combine them it is always a win for me and the Zords where great, but needed more screen time |
I think this show can be summed up in this quote.
You're hard to love but you're harder to hate. |
great season, it wasn't perfect, but it was very enjoyable and made goseiger actually watchable for me
for the most part the cast was good, outside of gia, even troy who was the weakest of the other 4 got better as the show went along, and lord knows he is still 10 times better than that twerp alata bring on super megaforce |

I'll be using the "1-10" rating system for this one.
I got back into Power Rangers during the last few episodes of Samurai. I was unimpressed by that show but looked forward to this new season...but, when I saw episode 1, I was so embarrassed by how bad it was that I had to start watching them when no one else was home. It got better slowly but surely as Samurai did (according to reviews), and it's not as awful as some people say Samurai, Turbo and Overdrive are (I need to watch those three to the fullest before I can properly judge them.), but it isn't as good as the season it tried to emulate/rip off (at least early on) or Dino Thunder. Hell, even Mystic Force was better. Megaforce itself, it did get better towards the end, but it wasn't the best season. I rate it a 6.5. The rangers are as follows. Troy is very bland and emotionless and I HATE that in a Ranger, and I do fully believe he was hired because he was a pretty face (as he IS a model). He doesn't hold a candle to Jason. He had his moments of being cool, but they weren't enough. I'm ashamed that he'll act as Marevelous' counterpart in America and he's no Alata. He's a 3 at best to me. Noah isn't bad, he's not the copy/paste Billy that he was in episode one, and I've grown to like him. Sucks that he didn't get a "green" counterpart for one episode. Not even Jordan as Gosei Green's counterpart? Hmph. Anyway, Noah is better than I expected him to be, and I find him interesting enough. Hell, I like him better than I like Billy so far. Noah gets himself a 6. He's not the badasses that Hyde and Joe are, but he's good. I can appreciate that Jake wasn't trying to emulate Zack, or at least, not in any ways I could detect. And I can't find any hints of Adam (though, I haven't gotten to his part in MMPR, so, I can't compare them properly). He's funny enough and his attempts on Emma are fun to watch and heartwarming at times. I hope he and Noah switch colors, since it would make more sense for Noah to be the Green Ranger, or at least, to follow his sentai counterpart's mannerisms. Not quite like his two Sentai counterparts, but he gets a 6 like Noah. Emma and Gia...oh lord, I love these two. Emma seemed a bit preachy with her eco-sensitive personality at times, but it wasn't as bad as Kimberly's stereotypical mall-rat personality early on. I also must commend her for her singing (if that really was Emma's voice singing way back during that episode.) She suffers from being a bit bland during ranger scene dubs as all rangers here do, but I liked her anyway. And Gia is just a badass and I love her. She takes charge when Troy isn't around, she was a total boss who commanded respect on the battlefield when unmorphed...infact, why wasn't SHE made leader? Anyway, her interactions with Emma are sweet. And her "love triangle" was fun. (I'm rooting for you to get her, Robo Knight). They compare well to their Sentai counterparts and I think the ladies will fit in as Gokai Yellow and Pink just fine. They get an 8. Robo Knight, as I have said many times before is the redeeming quality for any Megaforce episode to me. I liked the Robocop style voice and just how wide eyed and curious he was before the library episode, and yes, I still liked him after the rap. That was funny, don't even kid yourself. Besides, he's not anywhere near the badness that was Alpha 6. Funny how he was more emotional than Troy ever was, though. :lol Anyway, I loved Robo Knight, he was an excellent sixth Ranger and fairly badass and funny. I can't compare him to Gosei Knight yet and he won't need to be compared to Gokai Silver (unless he really IS turning human to become Super Megaforce Silver.). Robo Knight, you get an 8 and I am eager to see you and the ladies of Megaforce in the next season. This post is already long and rambly, so I'll sum it up quickly. Creepox seems like a wasted potential and seems to miss his counterpart's badassery. Malkor seems underdeveloped but I liked his final battle, Vrak was an interesting villain and I loved how they tied him in as the Prince's (Prince Warz) brother. A shame they never used the Samurai crossover to sell "Evil Jayden" toys and see a Xandred form of Vrak. Oh well, maybe in Super Megaforce. None of them hold a candle to Mesogog though. Mesogog will always be my favorite villain in Power Rangers, but that's another story. Creepox gets a 3, Malkor gets a 6 and Vrak gets a 7. The season was good, but there are better ones out there. I like the theme song better than the original 'redux' Samurai version, only three of the Rangers are anything to write home about, Tensou and Gosei were better than I expected (Tensou is better than Alpha, and Gosei compares well to his mentor), the villains were great and I look forward to Super Megaforce, but I'm still hoping that Troy will have to go to a peace conference and hand his key over to Jordan or someone better. 6/10. I recommend it for Robo Knight and the lady rangers. |
Honestly despite everything in the season.. The only thing that truly shocked me and me jump out my seat was when Gosei was like "MORPH, MORPH, MORPH!!!" ... Like woah you know somethings at stake when your mentor is telling you to morph into action with out any further explanations.
Overrall, I give the season a 7/10. I think the final episode was really great, and nice cliffhanger for the up coming Gokaiger adaption. |

I said the season was average.
A strong finish can't negate a rather average season leading up to it. The character of Troy cannot act - his ADR is 90% atrocious and "I AM READING. THIS OFF OF. A SCREEN?" It's dry and unemotional, very monotone. Robo Knight has grown on me, quite a bit actually, but a rather lackluster debut. Not really the "oomph" that a 6th Ranger brings in. Overall, it's leaps and bounds above Samurai's first season, which I would give a 1 to. But I'm not quite ready to call this season the "return to grace" for the franchise. It's a step in the right direction, but it's a long walk. |

He looked good shirtless though. See Emma checking him out while Gia was concerned about the badguys? |

I don't Post often but I wanted to voice my opinion here. Megaforce was not the best Power Ranger season out of the past 20 years. I think they tried to hard with the characters, and the story needed work a lot of work. Now I understand why they didn't use Angels like Goseiger its Sentai counterpart, however attempting to duplicate the magic that was mighty morphin may have not been for the best.
The characters are to be honest are failed attempts to be carbon copies of the original 5 rangers. Gosei, the Giant head on a wall, and Tensu, the annoying robot, are also supposed to mimic Zordon and Alpha. Then there is Ernie and his Juice bar I assumed they stopped trying to hide it at this point. Last there is RoboKnight the sixth ranger who surprisingly got the most development out of the whole series. Now all this is just my opinion but this whole season needed more time and more episodes. I think my biggest problem with the show on the whole was not that it was short or the plot was beaten to a minimum it was the rangers themselves. Like a said they tried too hard to make these new 5 like the original 5 and fell short. I make this comparison because the show seems to want you to do this was well. They were both high school students who became super heroes. They both even hung out at a juice bar ran by a man named Ernie. However that’s where the similarities end. The original 5 while being super heroes had to deal with things like home work, school functions, after school activities, and even dating. The closest this season even come to that is Jake pining rather creepily after Gia. The Charters got little to no development outside of Robo Knight who like ever robotic charter in any show had to learn how to be human. The only other charter development may have been Troy, Emma, and Metal Alice. Troy is seen training in a few episodes adding the hard working to his charter. Emma is shown to be concerned about the environment. And Metal Alice is devoted to Vrak and adds an opposite to Robo Knight. Over All the Characters needed work. The story was Ok though without much plot. The Zord where all right I’ve seen better in past shows. If I had to give this an out of 10 ratting with 10 being season like LSR, SPD, and RPM and well 1 being Alien Rangers and Turbo. The show is a 3 it was not great but it could have been more and with this cast returning for the next season for the Gokaiger adaption I’m a little nervous. |

Anyway, I will be using a 1-5 rating system for this. Rangers: Troy gets a 3.5. He was pretty much emotionless for most of the season and his lines were cringe-worthy but as the season went on he became bearable and started putting some actual emotion into his lines and it's a step in the right direction but he's got a long way to go. Noah gets a 4. Noah was one of three people that actually grew as a character and say what you wll about "Last Laugh" he was getting some development. He's become alot better as a ranger though I still wonder how they're gonna transition him to being a master swordsman... Jake gets a 4.5. This guy has been a joy to watch him fail to hook up with Gia but it was enjoyable all the same. Not the brightest crayon in the box but he's got it where it counts. Emma gets a 3. She got some personal episodes dedicated to her and while she also became somewhat more developed and not quite as much an eco-freak as in the initial episodes she still sounded a little preachy but not Animus from Wild Force preachy. She's gonna make a good Gokai Pink. Gia gets a 4. She already was pretty developed during the initial episodes with her interactions between Jake and Emma and over the course of the series she became the de-facto leader when Troy wasn't there as well as becoming something of a big sister to Emma. Gia to me is the one that got most of the development this season alongside Jake, Noah, and Robo Knight and she will fit into the role of Gokai Yellow perfectly. Robo Knight 4.5. This guy easily steals the show along with Metal Alice. I like that the rangers had to earn his trust even if it was rushed cause it took the Goseigers alot of time to have Gosei Knight trust them but anyway whenever he spoke you knew it was about to get good and while not the best he was better than Troy lol Story: The story gets a 3.5. It started off promising with "Mega Mission" but then kinda meandered about till "Robo Knight" and then was decent till the end. Like it was said before here it was slow to start but after awhile it snowballed into a really good story even if it was somewhat disjointed in places. The whole arc with the Mantris was awesome cause Metal Alice was single-handily the best female villian yet and Messenger was decent for the brief time he had him. Villians: Creepox wasn't as good as his counterpart in Goseiger was and I'm kinda sadden that he was killed off so early. I would've placed his death around episode 18 so he could've died alongside Malkor. 2.5. Malkor: Malkor was a decent villian but he didn't really stand out as the general of the Warstar. He really was just...There until Episode 16 but he did go out with a bang and he had a good fight so 3.5. Vrak: This guy was just as much a bastard here as in Goseiger. He really fit the role of the whole plotting from behind the scenes and this is not reflective of his score but I think his whole alliance with the toxic mutants was just a means to an end to keep Malkor busy focusing on them while he built the Mantris base. Anyway he really stood out as a villian and he kinda reminds me of Deviot form Lost Galaxy. 4.5. Metal Alice: 5/5. Nuff said. Messenger: Messenger wasn't given alot of time due to being introduced so late in the game but what we did see of him he was pretty awesome and not only showed intense loyalty to Vrak but he had alot of firepower to back it up and really messed the rangers up good. 4/5. Writing: The writing isn't really something I can comment on but early on it really felt disjointed and while the footage of the rangers morphed was good I would've liked to see more unmorphed fights. It has been better than Samurai and with the whole arc with Robo Knight it seemed to be where the most effort went and even though it somewhat ripped off Goseiger with "Last Laugh" I do have to hand it to them for putting their own original spin on things with Vrak being Walz Gil's (Veker's) brother and him creating the Mantris faction as well as keeping the Warstar around for a bit longer than in the sentai so 3.8/5. Lead-up into Super: This series has been teasing us so hard with small flashes of the Mega War, the Ranger Keys being in the Command Center, both mentions and footage of the Armada approaching Earth as well as Messenger saying they were assembled from across the universe so yeah they've been hyping it up alot and with "End Game" it has come to a head with the Armada commencing it's invasion so 5/5. Characters: Ernie: I really liked this guy for the small times we did see him even though he was around strictly because of the name but he was enjoyable in his own way. 4/5. Gosei: As a homage to Zordon and making reference to him...*incoming rant* No, you cannot pull the continuity card now since after In Space, PR has wanted to downplay elements of prior seasons outside of team-ups and while I'm sure it was just a throwaway line to entice older fans it still bugs me. *rant over* He was ineffective as a mentor and half the time in this series we never saw him and what times we did see him he was being a Zord dispenser! He is no Zordon and while I get the whole mystical guardian of the Earth vibe he's not a good leader. 2/5. Tensou: Tensou while he shared the same problem of us not seeing him alot in the early episodes we did get to see and at least hear him and teold the rangers where the monster was attacking. He was quirky and in "Gosei Ultimate" he was genuinely funny. 3.7/5 Mechs and Weapons: I love the Mechzords and weapons. Ultra Mode was awesome and all the configurations for Gosei Great were pretty cool too. My favorite though has to go to Gosei Jet even though much like the sentai it only appeared in 1 episode of the series. I loved the Megaforce blaster and seeing it come together was always a treat for me along with the Ultra Strike Finisher. Gosei Grand/Great Grand and Gosei Ultimate though are what steal the show for me. The fact Robo Knight is his own megazord and and combine with Gosei Great and use the Kuwaga, Hawk, and Manta Zords was great as well and Gosei Ultimate was great as well as I love the design of it and how it can transform into a ship but that might be the Transformers fan in me talking. 5/5. This season was good but it has some parts of it that are just cringe-worthy but it does get better as it goes on. (Robo Knight's rap included) The story while not being the most smooth was pretty decently told and I did enjoy the creative liberties they took with the source material. It does feel like this season was mostly filler to build up for Super Megaforce but on it's own it's a pretty decent season for the Neo-Saban era and if you were marathoning the PR series I don't think you'd be able to tell the difference with the other seasons. Overall I give Power Rangers Megaforce a 4/5. |
I agree. This season felt like it was haphazardly sewn together with only the villains plot set in stone. Thank god for that. One of the best villain stories in a long time.
All of the acting was too little to late. Roboknight took a while but ended up being my 2nd favorite charter, 3rd jake an first Vrak. Troy and emma were really the only weak parts of this season. Noah was...ok, way too enthusiastic when a ranger and just right when he wasn't. I had these lofty expectations of troy losing his memory or being the phanotm ranger or something but the whole oh troy is an unsolicited kid who had just moved here. That plot was gone in like 4 episodes. Now hes just a "normal kid" all outgoing and stuff. Heck if he truned out to be aka red with his mind wiped and weary of the on going war that would have made my day. I still can't shake the feeling that he is special somehow. Time will tell I guess. Oh and the professor from the school was great too. Glad he got some more airtime in the last ep. |
How do you rate these Rangers?

God dammit, Nickelodeon. But hell, better them than Disney. As far as the villains go, if they really wanted to make the Warstar Aliens a threat, they should have just kept them, the mutants, and the robots all under one roof instead of Vrak having to change his appearance for each group and their respective lairs. I understand that was part of Goseiger, but come on. The lead-up into Super. We know that the visions Troy had throughout the season will come to pass in the last episode for the next season. We know that they, along with every other team of Power Rangers, will fight the Armada (though I still think they should have just kept the Zangyack name). We know that Gosei was in a worried tone, yelling at the Rangers to morph when the Armada showed up. We know that the Gokaiger suits will be a powered-up form for the Goseiger suits, and that the Rangers will use the Ranger Keys to morph into previous Rangers. Finally, we know that only Tommy, TJ, Cassie, Leo, Karone, Damon, Carter, Dana, Wes, Casey, Jayden, Mike, and Emily return for a cameo. So that means the idea of having a previous Power Ranger return to give the new team their respective teams' powers is out, like what Gokaiger did. The way I see it, it looks like Gosei is going to be around to give the Megaforce Rangers the Greater Powers of the previous teams instead, what with the Ranger Keys being in his Command Center and all. The Rangers themselves are tolerable, though I think Troy's actor can do a lot better. Most of the time, he sounds, looks, and acts robotic, and when the voice actor for Robo Knight does a better job emoting than the Red Ranger, you know something's wrong. Nothing against the actor, hopefully his acting improves. The Megazords, the Gosei Morphers, and the weapons are probably the only things I genuinely liked about Megaforce. The Megazord itself has that charm that reminds me of the original Megazord in a way, and while the Morphers may look silly, the idea of using Power Cards is clever. I just wish they used Ranger Cards instead of Ranger Keys for Super Megaforce, to be perfectly honest. The weapons are nice, too; it's not often we get a bowgun in a Power Rangers series. Come to think of it, I think this is the first time we actually have a bowgun weapon for Power Rangers. Nice! Personally? I think Saban could have done so much better with Megaforce. There were quite a few good ideas he could have done instead of just being a cheap tightwad. Something tells me he's going to cheap out again when Super Megaforce airs. |

Eh, I haven't seen the last episode yet but I feel left out so I'm gonna give my thoughts now. Megaforce hasn't been perfect, but I've really enjoyed it and am kinda sad to see it go.
One of my problems with Goseiger was that the villains (aside from Buredoran/Brajira who was perfection) could be described in this order - dull, awful, rushed. By rolling them into essentially one group (the mutants were practically working under the Warstar, and Metal Alice was simply an extension of Vrak), it's spared Megaforce the pitfalls the other multi-villain seasons have fallen into (so Boukenger/Operation Overdrive and Goseiger). Megaforce was very much the Vrak show, but I felt it brought the better villains to forefront and the weaker ones back a bit. Yeah, I REALLY didn't like the Yumajuu in Goseiger so the less mutants, the better. The rangers for me were as follows: Troy - a bit stiff, but was growing into his role and I'm hopeful that will continue Jake - No complaints, loved this guy Noah - Same again Emma - So-so. Not really here or there so probably the most forgettable of the bunch. Gia - Didn't like her at all. Ciara Hanna may be great with the fans but her character is a horrible "tough girl" cliche. Roboknight - LOVED him, even the really ridiculous bits were amazing. I hope he sticks around for a fair bit of Super Megaforce or becomes human and thus, the Silver Ranger. No problems with any of the zords or aesthetics, as I've always considered it one of the show's biggest strengths. Kinda wish they'd just dropped Gosei Wonder though, because it's one episode inclusion was largely pointless. The card thing was freaking annoying - it wouldn't be so bad if it hadn't been so obvious half the time. Gosei and Tensou were mostly pointless. So yeah, not perfect but certainly enjoyable. A solid 7/10 from me. |
Just a heads up, Netflix US has been updated with all 20 episodes + specials.

I feel like, overall, the season was very rushed. If Saban is going to have to produce each season with only 20-ish episodes, then there needs to be more effort put into editing. Some of these episodes were all over the place with little to no transition or explanation between each scene. I think if Power Rangers is going to continue its success, then there needs to be more originality put into each season rather than trying to cram 40 episodes of source material into 20 episodes of the adaptation.

My problem with the new Saban seasons is that they feel very very gimmicky. Samurai was a bland copy of MMPR trying to catch lightning in a bottle twice and PRM was kinda the same just because of the anniversary.
I wouldnt be surprised if PRSM is going to be just the same. Low on Story, low on characters but big on cheap nostalgia. |
Quote:

I dont have alot of nostalgia for the franchise so I pretty much dont care about anything that has to do with the anniversary. I want good storytelling and a well made show...and I didnt get that the last 3 years (still have to watch the majority of megaforce) so I am not holding my breath

I watched some PR back when I was a Kid (mostly MMPR 3 and Zeo) and I always liked the fights and Robots. So when I was 16/17 I googled the show and watched Jungle Fury a season I liked at the time (not anymore for the record) and then I discovered Sentai and Rider. I watched some PR seasons like Lost Galaxy,Dino Thunder and RPM (still love em) but never got around to watching more PR stuff.
Mostly people told me I should watch the old Saban stuff like In Space,Lightspeed Rescue and Time Force but I never really had the time so I started watching the new Saban stuff. But it was really really terrible. So long story short (after telling the long story) I liked the fights not so much the stories and discovered shows with the same fights and for the most part better story telling. Still I like to keep an eye on PR cause it got me into the japanese stuff even though I dont have big childhood nostalgia for the show. |
