Gaim Episode 8: "Baron's New Mango Power" Discussion
1. Mai becomes trapped in the mysterious forest! 2.She and Kaito have a heart to heart! 3.A New Lockseed, and with it a new confidence for Baron! 4. Will OOO GET MAD AT ME FOR STEALING HIS THUNDER? DISCUSS!. |
Actually no, I am not mad. As I've told Sentai, I post discussion threads immediately after the episode airs in Japan so I can read the synopsis. I have a feeling Sentai will be pissed though, it was his week to post the new discussion thread :p. Also, I post 6 details each time I create a discussion thread for Gaim :p

Onore-Barricde, Onore. MY REVENGE SHALL BE BOTH SWIFT AND JUICY!
|
You seem to have made the Sentai mad. Run Barricade!!!
|
Episode was really damn good.
Love Kaito more than ever now that I know that he is on a vendetta against Yggdrasil for ruining his family. Mango Arms still looks kinda derpy but I adore how they made his weapon so heavy he has to drag it behind him. Micchy finally did something interesting again by threatening Sid. Hopefully he gets more and more like his brother so we can be done with his boring "I am just a nice guy" routine. |
HURRY SUBBERS! I wanna know what exactly Kaito and Mai were talking about. I understood they both hate Yggdrasil and thanks to a flashback, I understood some of Kaito's story... But what's with Mai? MORE INFO, PREASE!
|
Did I mention that I absolutely adore the name of Mango Arms weapon?
Mango Punisher just sounds bad ass. |
Knight of Hammer!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ST7iO25BGro#t=27 I REALLY like how he just drags the hammer behind him. The overall fighting style for this form seems pretty good. Seeing kouta get all excited at the end made me smile. |

Was. EPIC! I love that they teamed up to take down a bad guy. I need this episode NOW. |

So Kaito always wanted power to fight Yggdrasil, the strongest power in Zawame City, while Mai simply wanted the power to make everyone happy. Both wanting to protect everything they had. That makes them slightly similar, but I doubt that they will be any close after this.
To think that Mitchy could outsmart Sid.......but yeah. Takatora would've believed that it was Sid who told Mitchy to do so instead of Mitchy stealing the Suika LS by himself. |
This time I did do some editing, but it only makes it even better.

Looks like we're moving into MOTW territory now, but the show's still good. Some nice backstory for Kaito and I love how Micchy manipulates Sid.
|
Loved the Episode even more now that I have seen it wth subs. Mai and kaito work great together and I can see them becoming a good team down the road.
The little we saw of his backstory is really cool and is pretty much what I expected. The "Strong" took from him because he was "weak" and that is why strength is everything to Kaito and he cant wrap his mind around a different concept. My favorite part about Kaito this episode was that we saw on more than one occasion that he is as much a hero as Kouta is. He protected Mai against the Invess without even realizing who she was. Loved, loved, loooooooved that Mitsuzane got his chance to be a manipulative evil bastard again. I really hope we get more of that in the coming episodes. His actor clearly is more comfortable playing those parts. He just cant pull off the sympathetic nice guy and comes off as really boring everytime he does it. Also really dig that Suika Arms has a cool down :lol All in all probably my favorite Episode yet. |
Looks like we are going to start with MOTW stuff soon, just hope this means Gaim will go bland because the first 8 episodes were awesome
|
I was hoping to see a side shot of the helmet with Mango Arms,it looks even more glorious then before.
|
I thought this one was great. I liked Micchy's backroom dealings with Sid, I liked the stuff with Mai and Kaito, and I thought the final battle with the monster was really cool. I'm definitely digging Baron's Mango Arms and its bigass mace. Best part of all, though? Haruto cameo in the opening credits! :D
|
Woweewow! You know a show is good when every ending leaves you wanting more. They're such a tease, leaving you hungry for the next episode with each one.
I really enjoyed seeing Kaito's backstory. The poor guy clearly has a reason for his anger. Also great that we got to see Mai do more this time, though I wish it was she who helped Kaito find the Mango lockseed. Micchy is one scary dude. |
I thought this episode was great. The fights were good, the character interactions were great, and we got to see some sides of these characters that haven't shown yet. I'm ready for more, even if it's MOTWs now.
|
I think that this show has a long way to go before it reaches OOO Status of awesome-ness, but it is doing a fine job so far.
Micchy though, his diplomatic skills in this show are amazing, as regardless of what he does he looks for a benefit in himself. The only downside is that, he is not that capable of a fighter... But, that in his own right is his point. He is the diplomat of the warring states. In the end I wouldn't be suprrised if he broke ties with Gaim to form his own faction, to only widdle down Kaito, Gaim, and Bravo. |

A great episode, Kaito behaviour now has real motivations, the character interactions were great and the fight awesome, plus we get more Pine, I love Pine.
|
Can I just say how awesome Kouta's transformation before using his bike was? Boy the fruit armour thing sure is going to ruin every single transformation scene with giant fruit heads. :rolleyes
Can't wait for next week. Garbage can Arms! |
Loved it as always.
Kaito got some great characterization, and we seem to be slowly leading in to the "SOB SOB I HAVE FRIENDS SOB SOB" story line which you know will hit in the late 10's early 20's. |
Now we just gotta see how long it takes for Ryugen to get Kiwi arms. Also wonder why the watermelon lock lost it's color.I wonder if it'll come back,or maybe just stay used up.Maybe that's why there are so many copies.Maybe a big part of the series will be riders losing their power mid battle and not being able to get them back
|
The more I watch gaim the more I get a kabuto feel with the lock seed and the hole corporation behind them

This show just gets better and better!
I actually like how good this was on a technical level. Wizard really started pushing the boundaries of Kamen Rider on a technical level, and Gaim takes it even further, and I'm not talking about special effects. I just loved the way this episode was edited, I love the way they balance Kouta's scenes with Kaito's to really show their contrast but also in many ways their similarities. Tokusatsu often defaults to dumping exposition, so it's nice that Gaim doesn't mind slowing down and trying to tell its story with its visuals. It isn't just that, Gaim has such memorable imagery, like the tears in dimensions and the way the strange flowers blossom out from them. Flashy visuals are great, but when they're given build up and context and aren't just flash for the sake of flash then they are truly something. Scenes are really well staged as well, they don't really have time to let them play out to their maximum effectiveness, but the scene with Mai running around the Other Forest and the way the camera panned up Baron as he stepped in, as if it was a first person shot right through Mai's eyes, just as a film buff stuff like that really pleases me. It certainly helps that I've utterly fallen in love with Baron's suit. The depth of the characters is really fun as well, it's clichéd sure but I love how much of a total goof Kouta is, despite being the strongest of the bunch and I utterly believe that is him in the suit. Kaito looks set to be a sort of one note Vegeta archetype, but couldn't be more the opposite and is fast becoming my favourite character in the show. And Micchy is a character that grows on me a little more each time, as we see him drop into his whole Lex Luthor act. Plus man them fight scenes! Pine Arms continues to be absolutely wicked, and how epic was Mango's introduction? |

Micchy was great screwing with Sid, but why doesnt he just show Zangetsu that he is Ryugen? :lol
Seeing more of the forest was good, but I swear those Invess are Worms from Kabuto :lol |

I'm guessing there is going to be a lot more to Michy and his brother down the line. This is tokusatsu, family issues come prepackaged, and we already know Zangetsu can't see what is right in front of him, so that is bound to give Micchy issues to tantrum over.
|
Damn Mango Arms is beastly
|
Just watched it and....while I love me some Gaim, Mango is pretty badass. The name, the cape, the attitude. I greatly enjoyed this episode and can't wait for Baron to realize that he's really a good guy, deep down. Deep deep down.
|
I'd laugh if they make it out like Baron's gonna become the good, then he turns into a FULL-ON villain.
|
Ladies and gentlemen, I officially declare Mai the dumbest character (I have seen) in Kamen Rider.
|
Quote:
Seriously though, what in this episode makes you declare her "dumbest character?" I'm not a fan of Mai, but I can't think of anything that dumb she did in this episode. I've also seen much more stupidity in other shows with this sort of set up. |
