New Tokkyuger info - naming scheme and henshin devices?
 

With the official reveal of the 38th Super Sentai team Ressha Sentai Tokkyuger due any day now, Japanese website Tokyo Sports has revealed some interesting tidbits of info to tide us over until then.

It seems that this new Sentai team is aimed at train collectors as well as children, so we should be seeing a wide variety of train types within the show! It will also be promoted at train stations across Japan.

The team are said to transform using electronic tickets, while also using a new naming scheme for the characters. They will be known as Tokkyu 1, Tokkyu 2 and onwards.

What makes me so uneasy is "aimed at trainspotters". This may well become the most boring sentai in the history of the franchise.

I just want a good reason to see the hyper-mega final train megazord come at the monsters so I can say: "Choo Choo Motherf*ckers!!!"

But then, this is Japan. If they can make fruit into my favourite toyline ever, then I will give trains a chance.

To play devil's advocate they do have a point. Trains aren't very exciting to me and I can see this going wrong very fast if they messed up planning on this show.

I mean Kyoryuger has dinosaurs and while toy sales are jamming the ratings are in the low point. Who knows what Train Force will do once it drops?

All I'm gonna say is that Gaim sounded silly at first but look at how that's turning out.It's on course to be one of the more popular rider series to date.I do have two concerns with this series though.1.What will the suits look like? 2.What will the main baddy be like? Will it be based on,like,carpoolers? How dare you villains cause traffic!

I do hope it works out.It does sound like a cool premise,just hope they pull it off right.

Trains are apparently incredibly popular in Japan though, so this is a pretty smart move coming off of dinosaurs.

I guess they could do a whole environmental slant on it? At least in the UK the big pull for commuting by trains is that it's better for the environment that a hundred people get on a single train, rather than take out a hundred separate cars. Although once you get on the overcrowded, dirty and smelly coffin on wheels you might soon be saying 'fuck the environment' and get back in your car.

I think that's the key idea. :lol

I guess it's a personal preference thing. I love trains to bits, and I have a soft spot for all the train mecha in Super Sentai.

Besides I hear trains are quite popular among both Japanese collectors and kids so this might be a great idea. I have fond memories of my Tomy train set, complete with Japanese instructional videos.

If it worked for Kamen Rider Den-o, then it should work for Super Sentai. Toei knows that a lot of fans of Sentai and Power Rangers have a soft spot for train mecha so this is a good move.I hope the train ticket thing is to transform into different rangers rather then a decoration like in Den-o.

As long as Tokkyuger doesn't shove toys down my throat like Kryoyuger, I'll be fine.

I want to say there was a sentai team that used numbers instead of colors, but I can't remember off the top of my head.
Anyway, I'm going to remain positive and think this will be pretty neat. I just hope the individual mech get some use instead of just going straight to the combo. With all of them being trains (at least that's my assumption) I could see them just having them pull out then combine.
I wonder if this will result in some sort of Den-O crossover....

It'd be so cool if we got a Tokkyuger vs Den-O movie.

For everyone worried because trains can be boring...

This is tokusatsu. Where trains have either been the size of buildings, travel through time or are combined with an animal. I'm sure at this point Toei can make a Sentai or Kamen Rider based around paperwork and make it look like the most badass thing ever created.

I gotta say I really dig the naming scheme. I am always a sucker for Names that are not the "Something" Red etc.

Like Ive said before, Im not getting hyped until we see official pictures and such. But If we get a combo of Den-O Belt and MagiShines morpher, itll be awesome :lol

Anything "train" related out of Japan has always been awesome. My favorite being JRX from the Transformers Car Robots line. And it'll be interesting to see a henshin device that isn't a phone but something totally different.

We haven't had phones for the main device for two seasons now. :lol

I'd melt from the greatness of it.

And it's a freakin' miracle! I love this trend of "not-phones" and I hope it continues.

I'd love for the morpher design to just be a ticket puncher, sort of like Magi Shine's.

.....does anyone here remember George the Steamroller from Thomas the Tank Engine? Because that's what baltmatrix made me think right off the bat.

If they do this, I hope they don't use actual paper for the ticket punching like Magi Shine's was.

I think it'd be cool if it was some kind of brace that they inserted the ticket into, the internal component would be some kind of clip that had a satisfying "click" when inserted, but didn't actually affect the ticket any.

That's what I'm sayin."How dare you take cars that cause traffic jams and pollute the earth!" If that's the case,will the sixth mecha be a Local Bus? Also if they are using trains,how will they do the usual motorcycle the team gets? Maybe it'll be a handcar.

All kidding aside,if they don't go the public transport vs regular car route,then maybe some cheesy theme about how trains "bring people together"

For some reason I absolutely love the naming scheme

It makes a LOT of sense if they're using locomotive and rolling stock mecha.

However, I now demand that #1 is Blue, #3 is Green, #5 is Red, and #6 is a different shade of green.

Then again, TTTE never had a Yellow or Pink locomotive during the Model era.

Here's hoping for a DD51 Euroliner at some point!
