DX Go-Buster Ace Review & Pics
The thirty-sixth Super Sentai installment has officially begun!
"Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters" began last weekend and the initial response has been highly positive; the premiere episode features some excellent action scenes and effects work unlike anything Sentai has seen in recent years. And naturally, with a new series comes new merchandise! Today I picked up the first release in Go-Busters' DX Mecha line! Instead of releasing Zords in a single box-set, Go-Busters Machines will apparently be individually released. This may lead for some interesting configurations but it makes the preorder systems even more difficult for collectors. At the moment only Go-Buster Red's Mecha is available to fight off the evil space aliens. This is CB-01: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...1/100_0803.jpg A massive super-car that launches off a building ramp to reach fights in time. The Go-Busters are supported outside of combat by the Buddy-Roids; mechanical animal creatures whose origins have not been fully explained at the time of writing. Go-Buster Red's partner is one "Cheeda Nick" - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...1/100_0806.jpg A cheetah-inspired robot who can transform into a motorcycle. This is the smallest piece of this first Zord set and looking at its "transformation" (folding the legs upward) I begin to suspect the design team picked up a spare Ranger Key & stuck it on a leftover Goseiger Header. Nick combines with CB-01 to unlock the vehicles' full potential- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...1/100_0804.jpg Doesn't do much for the Vehicle form but it does enable further transformations! With Buddy-Roid installed CB-01 can convert to Beast Mode! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...1/100_0805.jpg A massive cheetah-shaped robot block. Its almost totally immobile but I'm still very impressed at the creativity of this design. We've had vehicles with animalistic qualities before but never animals that turn into Vehicles quite like this. And Cb-01 has one final transformation! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...1/100_0807.jpg Red Buster gets his own Megazord, the Go-Buster Ace! Consider this from a Transformers perspective: this single Megazord is a Triple Changer, Breast Animal AND (eventually) a Combiner! Ace's giant legs prevent any lower body articulation but he does have some startlingly good movement in his upper shoulders (and even some ELBOW Movement, which Megazords almost never have!) Go-Buster Ace does come with the traditional sword weapon, except the sword is attached to Ace's right hand on a ball-joint instead of a peg. This way the sword is integrated throughout the various transformations without having to be removed. Its another impressive detail but I have already noticed some faint stress marks around the ball-socket so I'll have to keep a close watch on this weapon usage. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...1/100_0808.jpg The engineering of Go-Buster Ace is simply remarkable; for a long time now Super Sentai has needed something beyond the usual "stick five things together" setup for Megazords and Ace pulls it off with superb detail. Definitely a fun and promising start to this new series! Highly recommended! |
Great review!

Thanks for the review, Paladin!
This is one of those rare toys that actually looks better than the promotional photos let on. All the user images and videos I've seen make me far more interested in this toy than I was initially when only promotional material was available. Oh by the way, which ball-socket with stress marks were you referring to? Hope it isn't too bad... |

Thanks for the review! Really tempted to change my decision of keeping away from the DX line, if only for Ace.
|
Great review as always Paladin! Here's a fun vid I found on YT showing off Ace in an interesting way.

Wow, I love that the Go-Onger engines can attach. Those neat little features are some of the things I like most about the DX line.

STILL! SEXY! |
Im really tempted to get the dx, mainly because i think it deserves to be owned in a bigger and much grander way then a candy toy =] But candy will have better articulation... eh we'll see. If i get my trip to japan and there still around i might pick them up =]

Thanks for the fast review. ^_^ I really think Go-Buster Ace looks like one awesome mecha, and your review's pretty much confirmed that.

Go-Buster Oh and Go-Buster Machine review!

LightZord Question
I hope I'm wrong. Saban doesn't want the nerdrage building up inside of me on this one. But. Is there a DX Lightzord coming, or are we just getting this zord/figure mini one I see listed on BBTS? I hope we have a DX one coming. So tired of getting screwed on awesome toys when they bring them here. (Sharkzord comes to mind...)

are you talking about Daigoyo?

GT-02, RH-03 and Gobuster-Oh Video Review
I have got to say, individually, these figures are all great. The vehicle modes and the animal modes are fun and make for super toys.
Gobuster-Oh though is a different story. On the show he looks pretty cool but the figure feels like a mess of parts simply slammed together. |
Yay! Thanks for the review. Its good to see you here. (ps. chetta is CB01 on the show)

DX Engine Soul question
So I just bought a DX Go-Onger Engine Dai Shogun and it came with an Engine Soul. I know those were the gimmick of Go-Onger but I'm a bit confused on the DX toy releases. I'm about to buy a Kyoretsu Oh and just wanted to make sure that the DX actually comes with all 3 souls for the 3 Kyoretsu Oh machines. Likewise does the Engine-Oh set come with all 3 souls? I'm just wondering because at this point I don't want to have to track these down separately. My Dai Shogun only came with one soul but as far as I knew it was only meant to have one anyway.

Engineoh only has the Speedor Soul, #2 came with the Matan Gun and #3 (which is the rarest of em all) came with the Highway Blaster set. #11 and #12 both were only available with the Kankanbar
Seikuuoh and Gunbiroh are the only one that came with the individual cells because they were all packed separately but theres always Candy Toy souls |
Haven't seen the candy toy souls for sale anywhere though :(
|
then you might have a long search ahead lol. #3 is gonna give you tons of problems candy or otherwise because its for some reason extremely hard to get without buying that blaster set
but atleast you wont have to worry about getting a Topiter soul right? :p |
Again?!

Saw this by Dosmrider and... Seriously Saban? My butt is sore from all the times you screwed us over on American versions of Shinkenger toys! Sharkzord atleast worked on some level. But Lightzord having a damn Spider-Mode?! What did we ever do to you?! |
Sentai DX Mecha Discussion
There seems to be a bunch of threads out there talking about DX Mecha on different instances... why not keep them in one tidy package?
|
I've been wavering on adding new Mecha to my collection for a bit; after the disappointing Go-Buster Oh I wasn't feeling too optimistic about any future releases in this series. But, after a bit of consideration (and some bargain hunting) I have picked up the two newest Buster Machines!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...1/100_0927.jpg The magical Beet Buster & his egotistical sidekick Stag Buster have brought out two experimental Zords to fight back against the monsters from Hyperspace: First (despite J's protests) is BC-04, the Big Bad BeetleZord! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...1/100_0924.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...1/100_0923.jpg A machine used to harvest the precious Enetron fuel from various targets. 04's default form is a crane but it can also convert to Horned Beetle form as an alternative combat strategy. The transformation between modes is almost seamless; incorporating both vehicle and animal components without a ton of kibble and leftover parts. BC-04 has one extra trasformation- Megazord Mode! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...1/100_0921.jpg This is Go-Buster Beet, a much-needed addition to the Gobusters arsenal. The Robot Mode is another impressive fusion of elements, topped off with the crane length serving as both arms of the Megazord. This also gives Beet a big more arm movement than a normal Megazord- another boost to the play value. Next is Buster Machine SJ-05, the Stag Beetle! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...1/100_0928.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...1/100_0929.jpg 05 changes from Jet Mode to Stag Mode in order to harvest Enetron. The fusion of elements isn't quite as well executed in this Machine; it really just swaps wings for bug-legs. Its not really a BAD Zord; just not quite as good. 04 & 05 can combine to form one Super combo- Buster Hercules! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...1/100_0919.jpg I suppose that in-universe the extra weapons would be helpful but in toy form they only serve to cut down Beet's already-limited articulation. Definitely not a good direction for the DX Mecha. Last and most certainly least is the combination of all five Buster Machines, "Great Go-Buster Oh" http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...1/100_0930.jpg The name is an incredible misnomer; there is nothing "Great" about this ugly hybrid of unlikely elements. It baffles me that the individual Go_Buster Machines can feature such interesting mode changes while the resulting combos turned out so hideous. Seems like the design team just ran out of interest after the first stage & tried to throw parts together until they had none left over. I'll mildly recommend the Beet & Stag Buster Machines for the individual forms and suggest that any attempts at combining the two should be forgotten. I've put it together once for this photoshoot and probably never again. |
The 'Great' part of its name is possibly a reference to Braves?
|
I like great gobueroh, it dose have it flaws(more than i want to amet) but i still think it looks cool the the 5 do have some good play value
|
My main issue with Heracles is those heels dont support his weight well. Everything else is awesome. Love how Beet goes from vehicle to beetle. Ingenious. And no parts formation.
|
Yes. The transformations from vehicle to beetle are epic on both. I meant the Beet basically turns itself inside out and the Stag just hides parts in great ways. I really appreciate them not part forming between those 2 modes (unlike Gorisaki).
