Rare Behind-The-Scenes Filming of Dairanger Released
Jeff Pruit, a director and stunt coordinator for early Power Rangers episodes, has released some video footage of the filming of Dairanger (recorded in preparation for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 2).
This gives us some incredibly rare firsthand looks at the suit and prop usage that goes into a Super Sentai series! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKVa1eQF3PI |
That's pretty cool. I clearly haven't watched the entire thing (Only got through 5 minutes before I noticed it was a 2 hour video :lol), but it's already looking pretty neat.
That's amazing and informative. Reminds me of the TV production job I had back in High School in the late 90's.
It is so weird seeing the suit actor with out his helmet next to people and seeing him putting on the suit, so much work and effort going in to the Megazord scenes, which was always my favorite part of power rangers when I was little
I am always amazed how much time and effort goes into a two or three minute fight scene.
This is incredibly cool, especially for its age. Wish I could get this on DVD somehow.
This is a huge piece of toku history. This is incredible stuff to see.
From what I watched that is incredibly cool. =)
Okay this is just awesome. Instantly favorited.
that's an amazing amount of effort put into what is seemingly a simple scene. Awesome.
always wondered how they film the zord fights very cool
Very cool. Thanks for sharing this. :)

Ok, random question: Does the amphitheater where they were filming look the same as the one in Kyoryuger (where Candelira was singing) to anyone else?

I didn't realize that this was almost 2 hours long, will have to continue at another time. But this video illustrates why the battles always last not more than a few minutes, it takes hours to shoot! I would have love to own some of the props and such, seeing that vehicle junkyard breaks my heart :(
When I saw the motorcycles and props and helmets in the storage area I just couldn't believe it. I mean I thought they had a more organized system of arranging things but nope, they put all if the old stuff in piles. I makes me think of how long it took them to find everything for Gokaiger and of how the kamen rider stuff is stored:/ It is cool though to see how Dairanger was filmed considering I really like the show.
I skimmed through it and it was pretty cool. Ouch for the monster stuntman who fell off the pad during a jumping fight scene at the 43 minute mark. Also, my god, that mech battle took forever to film. It seemed like he would take two steps, they would cut the take, take off his suit for 10 minutes, then put it back on for another two steps and hand movements. WOW!! This shows why CGI mech battles are inferior as you just can't see any hard work put into the stuff like that with CGI.

Also, really does kinda make me wish they did change the suits up between season 1 and 2 of MMPR, if only because I really like the suits from Dairanger. |
