Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog: Rohan, Knight of Fire Gallery
21 Attachment(s)
Fire within me!
Today we're taking a look back at Bandai of America's short-lived Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog toyline from 1998 with a gallery of Rohan, the Mystic Knight of Fire. This particular figure is from the 5.5 inch Mystic Defenders sub-line and features 17 points of articulation on top of excellently sculpted and painted details. Rohan comes with several weapons, including The Sword of Kells, the Dragon Breath's Dagger, another long sword, a shield, and an ax. Each Mystic Knight comes with a unique shield that can plug into the chest of Pyre, The Fire Dragon of Dare. Overall, Rohan is an example of a 'basic' figure of a toy line done right. It accurately captures the detail and beauty of the on-screen suits while still maintaining a modest level of articulation. Coming with an impressive number of accessories doesn't hurt either. If you were a fan of Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog, or American Tokusatsu in general, I strongly recommend tracking down the Mystic Defender figures. |
Always loved Mystic Knights. And it always kills me when I remember that Battle Thunder never happened :(
But the figure looks great and the show is one of those rare non-japanese based toku that just really really works for me. Lookin' good man! |
And BAM, nostalgia just hit me hard. I watched this all the time as a kid.
|
If I could only get one more thing on DVD from Shout Factory, just one more. It'd be this show.
|
I'd be with you. I only have a tape that has some episodes on it. I'd love to get the whole thing on DVD.

ALSO, If I recall correctly, that dragon figure was repainted and put in the Power Rangers Mystic Force toyline. |

Ooooh nostalgia!
The figure and armour itself looks great, very ornate for the time it came out..but those derpy eyes are kinda hilarious. |

I remember getting this guy! I lost all of the armor and weapons, since I was a little kid when I got him.
I need to find another one... |
Strangely, I always missed out on this series. I don't know why, but I never watched a single episode :lol
Figure looks pretty cool, though. Really nice design. |
I remember only a bit about this series but i know i owned this toy as a kid. Always thought the dragon sword was weird.

That or Goseiger. Or whatever Iron King is. |
This has been on my watch list forever, need to buckle down and do it. The official figs look really cool, my only real exposure to Knights was the buildable dragon from Mcdonalds.
|
I desperately wish this series was available on DVD. To date we have no clear reason why its unavailable. :(

I remember that Mystic Knights was was picking up juuuuuuuuuuust as Toonami started airing Ronin Warriors. I love them both dearly and begged and pleaded for anything I could get for either show. Personally I was a fan of Ivar and Sai/Cye/whatever from their respective shows.
Spandex and hi-tech weapons are cool, but magic and full plate armor will ALWAYS be cooler. |
Ah, the Scottish tokusatsu. I saw the basic Mystic Knights figures at Toys R Us during a few of my Borders runs but never knew they were better than they looked in packaging.
A pity it never took off though; for some reason America is not kind to tokusatsu. |

I had this figure. Think the figs I got back home are still intact. But my buddy has them, so I'm going to have to go back this year and maybe Fedex 'em back. And Galv, I agree. No real support for Toku shows outside Japan. |
