The Best and Worst Toys of 2013 Thread
It's that time!
Post your best and worst toy of 2013! |
I can't think of a worst, but I can think of a biggest letdown.Rhinox and Waspinator both having joint issues due to QC.
Best so far, since I haven't gotten much, has to be the Legendary Megazord. For BoA to shrink it down and still keep it good quality and even give us our own US exclusive zord, kudos to them.It turned out great! |
Worst - Rhinox. He should have been perfect but his knees are so loose he blows over in a breeze. and i dont even like beast wars!!!
Best and Worst - Gaim Arms Change... all of it. Best because its bloody addictive and incredibly fun. Worst because i cant stop buying it. |
Worst - SHF Flame Style. What a piece of garbage.
Best - Everything in the AC line that isn't Mango Arms. |
Best 6 inch figure: Figma Labrys
Best Figuart: Den-O Axe Best D-Art: I would put Elizabeth here, but I sadly don't have her. So, I'll say one that wasn't released in 2013, but that I bought in 2013 and that's Zero Version 2. (even though mine has some QC issues, and I paid $80 for it. I think I've just gotta break out the floor polish.) Best Pre-2013 Figuart purchased in 2013: Ryuki and Dragredder Best Transformer: Generations Springer Wow, making this list I realized how many Figuarts I bought this year compared to last year. :lol |
Best: Generations Springer (but really most 2013 Generations toys could go here. Skids, Swerve, Metroplex, Waspinator, Rhinox, AMAZING line)
Worst: Super Megaforce Red Lion (the Lion looks terrible and the combined mode is a joke) |
Best: Kamen Rider Black Renewal. I wasn't going to buy it because I had the original, but when I put the 2 together I was blown away by how much better the new one is. I do miss the metal content though
Worst: The Matchbox Double Decker bus. Yes a dollar toy, but it means something to me and it was a generic piece of plastic. |
Best hmmmm.... Well considering I haven't bought much this year.
How about I do what I bought this year:D. Shinken Red, I know, I know, that I am probably the last person to get him but I found him at Toysrus and was like what?!?!?! Plus he's my first figuarts so. My worst figure: The Lego Movie Evil Lair set. The only good thing is some exclusive parts but I've been growing out of Lego so. |
Best - Arms Change Baron. Love love LOVE this figure.
Worst - As stated in the podcast, SH Figuart White Ranger/Kiba Ranger. Not that the figure is bad, but because the accessory count really makes it hard to enjoy the figure. Two extra hands? That's it? Can't even use other hands because of the paint apps. |
Best? Figuarts Abyss hands down.
Worst? Figuarts Gavan just because of the breakage. However if reissues can count, TaToBa for sure. |

And how the hell does Rhinox, even with loose knees, make it on the "worst" list? My best figures of this year are probably Generations Springer, Orion Pax, all of Arms Change, and Metroplex. Worst is easily NECA's Pacific Rim figures. They were so hard to find, cost anywhere from $17 to $25, and were possitively primitive. Soft sculpts, half-assed paint jobs, and barely any mobility. |
While I can't think I anything that I truly hated this year, my favorite thing from 2013 was DX Plezuon. I love the designs, and the color scheme is fantastic.
|
Best: Transformers Generations Springer. Great toy and a much-needed revival of the Triple Changer concept.
Worst: Kyoryuzin. Looks OK but fails due to ineffective clips that ruin any long-term play value. |
Best: Either the Renewal Black, Orion Pax, or Year of the Horse Pinkie Pie
Worst: Minipla Black Lion. Why, oh why, did you have to be made out of the gold plastic that crumbles at the touch? I broke mine as I was building it. Thankfully, super glue fixed it right up, and luckily, I have 2 (Now 1 is only used for lion display, and 1 is only used for combining). Brushable Chrysalis. Paper crown? Boo. Celestia repaint? Boo. Badly implemented holes in the hooves? Boo. DX Kyoryujin. I almost bought this thing on multiple occasions after having fun with the Tobaspino Minipla, but every time I do, it takes just one video review to remind me how crappy this thing is. Barebones transformation, obnoxious sounds, easily broken, and everyone trying to justify it's crappiness with weak excuses all come together for a POS toy. |
Absolute best toy this year, is Metal Build Gundam 00-Raiser, it's such an amazing piece of engineering, and the detail on the sculpt and paint is awesome!
Best Figuart is either Ryuga/Dragblacker or Abyss, and I'd lean towards Abyss just because I had so much fun with him when I did the gallery, putting him in silly poses, giving him every blue accessory I could find easily. Plus, I think he has as many paint apps as Ryuga/Dragblacker together. Worst toy, unfortunatly, was MAFEX Batman. What a floppy pile of crap. Do you remember in Toy Store, when Woody was in Syd's room, and he heard Syd coming, he just flopped down on the floor like a rag doll? That's what my MAFEX Batman does, far too often. I can sometimes get him to take a pose, as long as it's not too far off a pain old standing pose, but if I breathe too heavily, FLOP. What a disappointing figure. :( |

As for him being worst, not really, but biggest letdown yeah.As for fixing it,yeah a collector can.A kid can't. I've finally decided on a worst, and it just has to be the Headder cycles. There's no point to them,it raises the price point to where you have to pay about 15 bucks for about 5 bucks worth of headders, and it comes with an extremely cheap, non posable Ranger.Would've been much better if they just sold the headders separate for maybe 5,heck they could've kept the function of some of the originals and charged 10.I would've bought them. |

Best : S.H.F RyuRanger

Best:

What's wrong with Vegeta? that's one that's on my want list.

Best: The US release of MP Soundwave. He is so awesome that I'm importing Soundblaster and selling off my TFC/G1 Soundwave & Soundblaster. And that's not getting into the cassettes that were also amazingly done.. or that they are G1 compatible and vice versa. And then they were all packaged together unlike the Japanese release. YUM
Worst: I wanna say Kyoryujin or Bragigas.. but I'm gonna go 3rd party Transformers with iGear's Mini-Warriors getting a wag of my finger this year. My fault on holding off to buy them all at once, but the moment I got them out of the shipping box, I knew I was gonna re-sell them at a loss. not-Pipes, like not-Huffer, was amazing, but all the rest of them felt like cheap, hollow plastic. All the paint jobs after not-Cosmos were faded, off-color, and matte. And I wasn't a fan of the bigger figure size, but still maintaining the SD-like proportions of their Choro-Q G1 selves Also I don't get the hate for SHF Wizard Flame Style. I know his driver pops off like crazy, but he has been perfectly fine for me. Maybe it is because he was my first SHF, and maybe because I own less than 5 SHF to compare him to. |

Worst: SHF Wizard Flame Style
I still like the figure and he looks amazing on display, but of the figuarts I own he is by far the least stable. It's a shame because the pictures I saw of him back towards the beginning of the show's run were what got me looking into the series and eventually the franchise and started this whole thing for me. So I had some really high hopes for the figure, and I was pretty heartbroken (sorta) when I started seeing the negative first impressions whilst waiting for my shipment from Bluefin. And when I finally got him, he wasn't THAT bad, but his driver falling off and his waist not holding together all that well really is kinda inexcusable. I can forgive the incredibly overblown proportion issues, as I think he looks fantastic, but he fails pretty handily at the basics of being a toy. Best: I'm not sure of any toys I got this year that were originally released in 2013. Pretty much all of my Figuarts, however, I purchased or received this year, with Black RX, who I got years ago, and Fourze at the tail end of last year, being the only ones I had going into 2013. And I didn't really buy anything from any other toylines I collect/used to collect (i.e. no Transformers) this year. So I gotta give this to one of my figuarts, and I think it's gotta be Zolda. I love the Ryuki figuarts, it's a very solid base body, most of them seem to have solid accessory counts, they're fantastic representations of some of my favorite riders, with Zolda being my all time favorite, they just really work for me. Ryuki Survive is a pretty close second I think, he just looks so nice. However, he doesn't really come with much, though I appreciate the included stand, and I fear breaking his antenna constantly. Scorpion Zodiarts deserves some mention as well just for the beautiful sculpting and detail work. Anyways, Zolda just hits all the right notes for me. Perfectly captures the appearance of my favorite Kamen Rider character, comes with some really really nice accessories that give him some excellent display options, and is incredibly solid with no QC issues (aside from the loose card slot on the magna visor, which is remedied simply by putting an advent card in it), and I really don't worry too much about anything on him breaking. |

You may as well just buy the WAP version, from all regards it's a perfectly solid figure and whatever detail or accuracy you may lose, you gain in knowing that the figure isn't held together by frayed string.

I feel bad for people who weren't lucky with us, because I love Wizard's design, and all the extra cloaks are for Flame Style, and I just think it's a really fun figure.
It's too bad the majority of them seem to be really shaky. Especially since Hurricane and Land Style, which are improved, are exclusives and a bit more pricy. |
I forgot about S.H. Figuarts Blade, I want to add that as a Best. I've been waiting for this figure for years, and it was worth the wait. My only problem is I won't be able to get Garren to go with it because I can't afford to buy the bike bundle.
|
Okay, I need to add MonsterArts Biollante to the Best Of list. My god, I have had her for less than two hours now and she is freaking amazing!!!
|
worst: sadly as much as i hate to say it was SHF ryuranger and kiba ranger for having such tight shoulder joints, ive never had this problem with any of the other sentai figuarts or riders. he is my favorite suit design and its now the first figuart to break on me. im still looking for a way to fix the shoulders i am ordering a new one and want to avoid it snapping again! any suggestions?? ive heard shock oil but how do i get it in to that ball joint?
Best: Wizard Infinity i love the color on this figure! it just pops with the lighting. and second place would have to be dragon ranger. |
Doing this based off of all of the toylines I collected this year... which I guess is really quite a few.

So those are my lists... with what I can think of that I got this year heh. |

Worst-
SHF KyoryuRed- I know he is great design and has a lot of accessories, but the problems people have had with him, he kind of has to be here. Thankfully mine hasnt had that trouble yet, so we'll see. Best- Legacy Morpher- Great representaion of the Morpher and awesome collector item. SHF Hurricane Red- Amazin lookin figure and awesome accesories. SHF Kiba Ranger- Not as many accessories as others but the way he was made makes up for it. SHF PteraRanger- Takin the Zyu design and makin for the female mold, makes me want to get Female Yellow along with Tiger Ranger :lol DX Kamen Rider Gaim Lockseeds, I love the way these things are made. |
I also wanna add Black V2 to my negative list as well. I know he has that amazing engineering, but I don't see why he gets a free ride while Kou doesn't.
I NEVER pick up my Black and fiddle with him, as sure I can bend him like a ballerina but so what? Say what you like about the shitty Flame Style (I have, many a time) but he has enough hands to bury me, two weapons and a dramatic cloak thing, so what is Black's excuse? No weapons? Well how about effects pieces? You pack them with Ultra Acts and ALL of Black's attacks are special effects and pretty damn easy ones to translate to effects pieces. There is no excuse for like four hands and that is it, he costs the same as any other Figuart and for a new version it's pathetic how barebones he is. |
Quote:
The lack of special effects hurt it, but the simple effort they put into it is why I'm so forgiving (They even made his joints have the same muscle detailing the suit had, rather than make them pure black and have the cop out excuse they gave for Double's forms) |
