Would you buy 3rd party items for S.H. Figuarts?
G.I.Joe, Transformers, Masters of the Universe Classics...
All these toy lines have gotten a lot of stuff done by their respective companies, but they've also had quite the fair share of 3rd Party creators making some pretty good things. Whether they be unofficial figures, or just parts to enhance one, even making new heads or weapons. This brings me to stuff like S.H. Figuarts. I've seen a number of people use the old Mighty Morphin Power Rangers head flipper figures heads on their S.H. Figuarts toys and it got me wondering. If a 3rd Party group were to make custom heads or weapons for S.H. Figuarts figures, would you buy them? They could be either the Power Rangers or the original Sentai, or of course, the Kamen Riders (though given I haven't watched the shows I'm not sure if they ever remove their helmets) My thoughts on the matter, I'd bite. Sure. Whats everyone else's thoughts? |
Not if they had the prices most third party Transformer accessories do.
|
I'd be game for it. Alternate heads and weapons and stuff would really help fill a few holes in the collection. Case in point, longer TriceraLance/Power Lance.

I think that there isn't much of a market for 3rd party SH Figuarts add-ons. I'd say that most of the time, the line covers all of its bases when it come to representing a character, barring some issues like Kibaranger's lack of hands or Wizard Flame Style bursting to pieces to the touch. So if 3rd parties were to make add-ons, I imagine they'd only really be there to fill the gaps that specific figures have missed.
I also think that unofficial figures would run into more legal trouble since SHF doesn't exactly allow the same artistic liberties as Transformers do. But all of that aside, I probably wouldn't bite. I don't really care for paying premiums to enhance a figure when I could just buy another new figure with the same money. |
I wouldn't mind some 3rd party generic effects sets. Other than that, I can't think of too much in the way of non-official product I'd be interested in.

If I could get these heads for my Akibarangers then yes.

I see them as unnecessary. Sure, when a figure is missing an important item, it'd be nice, but most of the time the only accessory they could release would be some sort of effect part that really isn't important.

No,and I have a reason why.The deluxe sized classic Hot Rod for transformers cost 10 bucks at release, and we got a re-release in a more cartoon color scheme. The Protector armor is still going for hundreds of bucks.
My point being is how much do you think a third party item would go for a 30-50 dollar SH Figuart, let alone a popular one? |

As far as sentai would go, I'd buy power up armors/pieces only.
Maybe also cockpit/control panel (whatever they're called) as well. Like Gokai Silver's Darin, Shinkenger's podium looking thing, Kyoryuger's base/platform, etc. |
If we're talking effects parts, then yes I'd be in on at least some. Outside of that, I'm not sure.

Third party "upgrade" sets for Figuarts, I would think, fall more in line with the price for weapons or parts upgrades for Transformers; still expensive depending on who you're looking at (CrazyDevy is way up there, others are more modestly priced) and what's offered. (I admit, though not directly on-topic...this has made me think of third party Sentai mechs.) |
Yeah, outside of effect parts Figuarts is a line that's so all encompassing as it is that I really don't see a need for after market add ons.
|
I would say No. Since the accessories in the s.h.figuarts up to now are mostly enough comparing to the shows, I dont think I would pay about may be 1/3 or even 1/2 price of the figure for just an item of that figure.
But if they are effects like explosion, beam or effect impact, I am interested to buy some. |
Others have mentioned effect sets, and i agree that would be cool, but i could easily also get behind battle damage sets. Helmets with pieces of visor missing, broken weapons etc. There are also few things that do seem like they're missing, Silver Crow could use a Gale Thruster for example.

I at least think it'd be cool to see unhelmeted Power Ranger/Sentai heads become a thing.
3rd Party people for Masters of the Universe Classics basically focus on alternate/new heads for figures as well as occasional new weapons. So I could see someone do something like that for Figuarts. Maybe make the heads realistic or like the Akibaranger heads shown on the thread earlier 'anime' style depending on what people would go for. If the upcoming Tricera Ranger/MMPR Blue Ranger does not have a long version of his lance, I could see someone do a longer version. |

It honestly depends. Let's say they make Goseiger Figuarts, with no plans to do the Upgrades. Then maybe make those. But Figuarts come with accessories mirroring what they have in the show. Now things like Effect Parts, those would do well, I'd think. Like magic glyphs for Wizard, for example.

Nope, I'm strictly official, no matter what series I'm collecting.
|
So after thinking it hit me...Bandai Japan knows their audience in some ways too well...you do realize they are their own third party in a way? The Web Exclusives...limited run...higher price...just for the extra special collectors who just HAVE to have it all...hmmm...*looks at City Commander and Quakewave*
