Chinese tokusatsu "Armor Hero" official English Dub
Yup. That's right. Official English Dub. It's not as bad as you might think going in to it.

Must watch!

Intresting.

It even has an English theme song!

Then you had to go and say that. Now I gotta see it :lol |
The one thing I like right off the bat - there's tone change in the dub. And by that I mean, it doesn't sound like someone is reading off a script all mono-tone. It's like they're actually trying to make the words match the scene.
Downside? Total Kamen Rider Dragon Knight syndrome, of quiet-fights (ie: no hiyaa, kiyaaa, etc.) ... just silence with a beat in the background. |
Only watch a bit cause it's late, but as far as dubs on live action go it okay. To be honest I keep forgetting about Armor Hero, but now I think I will give it an shot since it is on youtube
|
Ordinarily, I'm quite alright with subtitles, it's second nature to me and never been an issue... until the first time I watched Armor Hero. I don't know if it was the because of the subbing group's scripts or the disparity between spoken Chinese and written English, but something felt wrong and it bothered me enough to not finish the series. An English dub could be just the thing to let me get through the series this time! It's a very pleasant surprise to read this and demonstrates a step up from what Toei has offered in the past (nada!).

I will definitely check this out for a few episodes. I love the way the toys look (if only I could find them...) so I've been itching to see the series.
|
After watching about 8 minutes, I can say that the dubbing isn't bad.
Not good, mind you, but I've heard worse dubs. The funny thing? It really feels like Kamen Rider, with it's opening (Not the song, but the opening scene) and basic set up. I haven't gotten to any fights, but if what Kickback said is true, that's unfortunate. |
I say go for it, if they make official dubs or preferably subs as I don't like words not matching lips, they can make money off the add revenue and the more money they make off of it, the better quality shows we might get. Depending on how successful they are they might even give this treatment to older shows without any kind of real good quality version, they would save money and make just as much as off the new shows.

If you're looking for figures, you have to go through TaoBao, etc. It's my goal to purchase some of the Armor Hero XT figures because they look amazing and have SH Figuarts style articulation.
|
I watched the first episode of this already a while back, didn't really dig it. But now I know I can get it with official subs, and without the need for downloading, I might give it another go. I could watch it on my phone or something while waiting for my train.
|
Ooh. This gives me more incentive to give it a go.
|
Watched the opening theme song and the first henshin and fight. Oh boy.
I agree with most that the dub is okay, it's not stellar but it's not 70's kung-fu movie bad haha The opening song is horrendous! It's like Dragon Knight but with an atonal soft rock. Honestly, it sounds like a generic rap mixed with a youtube acoustic performance lol I agree that it's VERY Dragon Knight and that probably for the detriment. I'd love to see this attempted with something like Fourze though. |

I just started watching it, the guy who was playing the piano sounded an awful lot like Johnny Young Bosh... anyone else notice that or am I just crazy?

It says 'English Dub and Sub', so where is the subbing? The dubbing is dire and I'd much rather just listen to it in Chinese.

For the English audio :lol |

I don't want to be 'that guy,' but I believe XT is the previous Armor Hero series from 2011 or so. The current one airing is Armor Hero Lava. Also I have a review of the upgraded Mars Armor figure on Collectiondx is anyone is interested.

My god is this boring. Only thing the least bit enjoyable is the random name changes. Best one is them focusing on a making a sandwich and then try to pass it off as a burger.
|
After watching ep.1, all I can say is.. Toei doesn't have to bother about chinese competitors!!
Now, I'm going back to Gaim... |
Hooray!
|
The dub is ok. I might watch more.
|
The opening theme song is terrible but the show itself isn't that bad. The dub is a bit weird (I would prefer original language) but the voice actors are at least trying to put some effort into it.
My only real complaint so far is the reliance on green screen and pretty bad CGI. I'm going to keep watching. |
This feels like a 'The Asylum' version of Super Sentai. I'm not keen to watch more after episode one, that theme song is also really off putting.

I just wanted to jump in on this way late to point out that the "inspiration" isn't limited to basic ideas as the Armor Hero Atlas movie has a character who's basically a Kamen Rider Chalice / G4 hybrid (Armor Hero Techno), right down to the uni-visor and heart plate. The latest series (?), Armor Hero Captor, cribs the 'historical reference' vibe and the Genesis driver (well, sans the... SO-DA... mug and straw) from Gaim.
Not all of the designs are so blatant, some are really cool and they're all really well executed. I watched part of Atlas raw and thought it had some cool stuff going on, the filming was great and the fight scenes were well executed (better than the show, it seems?). I'm gonna try the dubs. Not crazy about dubs... |
