toys used a motivation to watch a show
as much as i want to believe that a show makes you buy toys but you think of it that it could be the toys is the reason why people watch pr if they are playing with them or not.
because you see stores stock piling on sm toys two months before a show starts, im sure kids and adults are always known that toys are out before a show especially with promos coming out. that's my opinion because i believe toys are the main reason why people are into pr, if there was no toys, there wouldnt be much interest. i mean look at lost galaxy on vortexx, the ratings were a disaster because there was no toyline, if there was a toyline believe the ratings will probably increase because you have the toys and you want to watch lost galaxy. what's your opinions? |
Well, Nick's airing schedule makes that invariably true, releasing the toys 6 months before airing, then airing a handful of episodes before unleashing the remaining toys close to a year before they show up on TV.
|
That may be true for children who want to see their new zord/ranger toy in action on TV, but as an adult collector, I never get toys/merch of shows I don't like.
|
The entire reason I'm into Kamen Rider was because I bought MG Figurise Skull and SIC TaJaDor before seeing a single episode of Kamen Rider.
|
It's happening to me as we speak. I HATED Akibaranger. H A T E D. But the suits grew on me, Malsheena grew on me, I'm looking into Prices for Robo Isshtar.. And tonight now I'm watching the series again.
All because of the AibaRanger Figuarts and their awesome looking. |
I never wanted to watch Boukenger/PROO because the Zords don't say "Adventurer." How do you go on adventures in a Dump truck, Cement Mixer or Crane?
Then I got the candy toy Super DaiBouken and I now want the DX toys... Then again, I love Drill tanks so I feel like GoGo Drill is a necessity regardless.:lol |
It's the opposite for me. While I do hold that the Wizard figuart is a big part of what got me into the franchise to begin with, I've only bought figuarts because I liked certain shows and characters.
|
Yeah, I guess once I was in, I only bought stuff of shows I liked. OH except I think Ryuki. I bought it before I watched and liked the show.
|
I'm the complete opposite actually XP
I started watching my first Sentai(Shinkenger) because I liked the actor Tori Matsuzaka. I then got into Kamen Rider with Decade both because of it's crossover with Shinkenger but also because Gackt did the theme songs. I was actually determined never to get into the toys, I'd collected things like MLP and as fast as I became obsessed with it I got over it so I didn't want to waste money. That worked for almost six months before the preorder of Project BM! Kamen Rider Wizard went up and it was such a beautiful figure of my favorite Rider design of all time so I preordered it right away. And now I've fallen too deep in the rabbit hole to get out :lol And even now I limit what I buy to my favorite characters or favorite designs. Cause in a year I want to be able to look at my collection and enjoy it, not questioning how I could waste my money on it. |
in gobusters, i was liking the show even when stag and beet buster debuted, of course i bought the morphing blaster and driblade before they debuted and i was getting bored with the show after they debuted but what kept me going and getting through the show was my beetbuster gear because it kept me focused on the show even though i was playing and watching at the same time.
it was actually the same for goseiger with goseiknight, i hated goseiknight but i bought his gear and actually it helped me focused on the goseiknight by watching and playing at the same time. sometimes toys are a big deal and it can help you from getting bored with story. i admit i have been doing it since gekiranger, actually it's more fun doing it that way. i mean i have been watching kr without toys, it can be difficult getting through it without buying toys, especially when i cant afford them. |
Very often I collect toys without really getting into the shows themselves. I buy a lot of Samurai toys, some of which I can't even let my love of Shinkenger justify (such as the awesome DX Mega Blade!) even though I don't watch or particularly like the show.
|
I think both are true, and even now I am watching Agito because I have his figuart, I watched Blade because I saw his figuart was coming out. I want to watch V3, Skyrider, and Wizard because I have Riderman's, Skyrider's, and Beast's figuarts.
In the opposite vein I want Chalice's, ZX's, Ryugen's, Kickhopper, the rest of OOO's, and some other because of watching/reading the shows/manga for ZX of the Kamen Riders. |
good stuff, you know what would happen if there were no toys at all? i mean i think kr and sentai would probably not even last.

i guess if you look megaforce and super megaforce, toys are important for this series.
|
The Gaim toys made me give the show a chance (despite the bizarre synopsis and theme). Didnt regret it.
|
since i dont want to create another thread for this, do kids in japan buy the toys before they debut on the show?

I guess maybe, considering there's usually promos before that.

it's the thing i like about sentai, is that they show the promos more than nick does because it motivates to views to buy the toys and watching the program while you are playing with them. |
