Tokusatsu vs Marvel vs DC vs Anime/Manga vs Video Games
Which heroes are better?
|
None of them. All of them have characters than range from fantastic to god awful.
|
As I am a Sentai/Rider/Green Lantern/Agent Venom/DBZ/FMA/and Other DC and Marvel Comic, Tokusatsu, and Anime/Manga favorites I say all the heroes are great in their own fantastic and magnificent ways.
Trust me you should have seen my old cell phone background it was worse than my current signature, I was fitting in characters from everything in it. I love Superheroes so that's why I say they are all great no matter where they come from. |
I'm with ZeoRangerV on this one. Each has great characters as well as some stinkers. That's why I voted for neither; because I honestly can't vote for just one.

In Japan, it seems to be a flavor of the year in regards to tokusatsu - the new year of new heroes makes it interesting and exciting.
But come to the United States, and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are the icon of the "Power Rangers" franchise ... no matter how many series they adapt, everyone will say "I REMEMBER HIM!" of the Mighty Morphin variety, even celebrities and such. Anime wise, I think there's some icons out there ... obviously Son Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, and Trunks will always be icons for Dragonball Z. And Sailor Moon will always be an icon as well. Mostly, again, because of their distinct popularity across the world and not just Japan. Marvel? They've got the edge on the movies right now, and thus are making their characters worldwide famous, such as the Avengers, and even to an extent, some of the X-Men (a few animes in Japan featuring the 90's uniforms, etc.). DC has Batman and Superman, but I honestly don't think a lot of the world knows much more than that. |
I voted all of them except none of the above. It just all depends.
Marvel does good movies (Ignoring the McGuire spider-man movies), but hit or miss animation, and the books have been meh lately. DC does amazing books, even better animation, but the movies are very hit and miss. Toku is so hit and miss they either hit the moon or miss the universe. With trains. And Anime is the same for me. I love some, meh on others. |

Marvel heroes.
Toku heroes last a year before being discarded. Anime tries too hard to make their heroes the underdog (We ALL know Goku can punch a planet to death, but watch an episode of DBZ. Note how hard they try to downplay Goku as the rising hero), and DC heroes are OP as hell (And I'm not just referring to Superman. Fuck Batman and the deus ex machina bullshit he pulls from his belt. "Oh, he was just planning for this for months!" No. He's just walking plot contrivance). |

An anime that's just about the fighting is Fist of the North Star. |
Anime was the shit when I was 14, but my long and complex relationship with anime I think has finally died. Modern anime seems to rarely have budgets to actually animate their shit, and I find it hard to keep up with all the drawn out, overly complicated shows bogged down with filler. If you enjoy anime that is great, but I find it a largely wasted medium, with most of its highlights behind them.
Similarly I find the same with Marvel and DC. Trying to keep up with their continuities is pretty much impossible without Wikipedia constantly open and I ultimately just get so frustrated that it ends up turning into boredom. The only reason I don't all out hate Marvel and DC is their ability to travel across so many mediums so easily. You can count the amount of classic mangas/animes that translated to successful live action flicks or franchises on one hand. And the fact that pretty much every superhero is iconic in their own way, where's if I asked someone who Hisui Kisaragi is, they probably wouldn't be able to answer me, even though he's the protagonist of my favourite anime. Power Rangers is one of my all time favourite franchises but I DESPISE how it's marketed. MMPR and the other ones. Not only is MMPR a pretty poor show, but it's an even worse representation of the franchise as a whole and the juvenile attitude towards the Disney era by Saban is disgusting. Sentai is certainly handled a lot better, but I can honestly say that it is also a franchise I don't really care that much for, as so many of sentai's classics have been adapted into Power Ranger shows that have a place in my heart already. Thank God for Kamen Rider. |

Tokusatsu vs Marvel vs DC vs Anime/Manga vs Video Games
I thought I start this thread over with video games added into the brawl.
In my opinion: Tokusatsu: Kamen Rider & Power Rangers and several other tokus that I've seen are better than the Marvel & DC comics. Video Games: Fighting game heroes along with platform heroes like Sonic, Mario, Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper, Spyro & Crash Bandicoot. They're cool. |
Honestly it depends what you take in from each one. I've learned lessons from OOO that I never learned from Comics and games and other lessons I've learned from everything else that I haven't from Toku. They are all wonderful.

Voted Toku,Marvel and Video Games.
Not big of a anime guy and a few years ago I would have voted DC all the way but they broke my heart with the new 52 and continue every year to disappoint me. |
Toku, Marvel, and DC.
I was raised on all three and they are all heroes in my book. |
Gonna go Marvel here. I'm not really into superhero-esque anime aside from DBZ, Batman is the only DC character I really care about, video games don't seem to be very super hero-esque and tokusatsu is great, but generally not what comes to mind when I think superhero (except for Spiderman, of course :P). Marvel, however, has a lot of cool and interesting characters, so it gets my vote.
