Which Super Sentai series should I start with?
Seems like there's so many of them and I wouldn't know where to begin. I do like the suit designs of Gokaiger but I feel as though you'd need to have watched a couple of other seasons to really appreciate it.
And I actually watched S1 of Akibaranger but I doubt that matters for anything lol |
I'd say it counts, as it goes you some history lessons.
I'd say go with whatever one seems appealing to you. My first was Hurricanger, mostly because I found a DVD of it. You could always start at the beginning persay and watch Zyuranger. |
The best way to get into Sentai is to watch the show you think looks good.
|
I only watched Shinkenger when I watched Gokaiger and I still loved it.
I say Kyoryuger. Great series. |
Whatever appears to interest you the most would be the best place to start. However I have some personal recommendations for shows that are fun, enjoyable and interesting to get started with:
Gaoranger Dekaranger Gekiranger Goseiger Gokaiger Go-Buster Now of the older shows there aren't as many fully subbed. But some fun ones are available if not in their entirety, then at least a nice chunk of them are subbed: Jetman Kakuranger (in progress) Carranger (in progress) Megaranger (in progress) |
Dekaranger. Always Dekaranger.
|
Tensou Sentai Goseiger
Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger Samurai Sentai Shinkenger Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger |
You don't really need to have seen any older series to appreciate Gokaiger, but if you want other suggestions then Jetman and Dekaranger are solid choices.
You can't go wrong with Liveman or Gekiranger either. I'd throw in Go-Busters and Magiranger too personally but those two are a bit more polarising. |

The thing with Gokaiger that helps alot is that the five main characters dont know who the other sentais are either :lol

I think you'd be safer sampling something recent and popularly well-regarded like Shinkenger, or Gokaiger. If you're looking for something older, I'd go with Jetman. I don't think it's necessary to have seen any sentai to watch Gokaiger. In fact, the cameos are a good way to determine what other series you may want to watch. |
Personally I struggled with Gokaiger because pretty much all sentai shows, I relate them all exclusively to the Power Rangers versions I grew up with, so it was all a bit weird and disorientating.
As for where to start, Goseiger I'd say. Both because it's very good, solidly made, and has a healthy blend between dark and light moments. Plus, as far as sentai goes, it has some of the best written and handled characters. |
DaiRanger
KakuRanger (46 eps subbed of 53) Jetman' TimeRanger (16 of 50) ZyuRanger Gokaiger GekiRanger CarRanger (25 of 48) MegaRanger (44 of 51) Liveman |
Timeranger is fully subbed, I told you this Kain :lol Just because you don't like VHS rips doesn't mean it isn't subbed.

Megaranger also is subbed by Millionfold Curiosity. They've been updating very regularly and only have one episode left. By the time you reach it, they'll have finished the series.
My first Sentai was Gokaiger and I fell in love with it. I had already seen every Power Rangers season but was reluctant to get into Sentai, but I was convinced to watch it with my partner and twin brother and its my favorite season of Power Rangers and Super Sentai combined. It doesn't need any prior Sentai knowledge because, as people have already said, the main characters know nothing about Sentai either and it really helps introduce the history of Sentai as well as how awesome some of the previous teams are. Outside of being an anniversary season, it has a great main cast who mesh really well together and are all very memorable and a good set of villains who have a great ensemble of both extremely threatening and very humorous as well as including an interesting arch-rival character. From, Gokaiger, I really wanted to watch the other Sentai series and have been going through them ever since. Its also the only Sentai/Power Rangers season outside of Jetman that my twin brother wants to watch as well, which I think supports the fact that it doesn't rely on being homage after homage. Basically, I'm a huge Gokaiger fanboy, so I say start there! |
I'm still gonna vouch for Gekiranger because I love it so much to call it my favorite Sentai without hesitation~
|
Never even heard of Millionfold Curiosity before. How do their subs compare to MegaAnon? And jesus, how many groups do we need subbing MegaRanger? Someone really needs to tackle GoGoV and actually complete Gingaman.

Gokaiger, or Kyuryuger. I honestly hate most Sentai. But... they make me feel warm and cozy, (Cept' in Gokaigers case... I hate Gai. So. Damn'd. Much.)
|
It depends, if you don't mind watching vintage stuff you can go with Jetman or Liveman, then jump on something from the 2000's (I suggest Gekiranger/Dekaranger), while catching on up to date ToQger at the same time to have a global idea about Super Sentai.
Jetman and Liveman have great vilains and some memorable nightmare fuel, despite the FX at the time. I'll suggest Jetman btw (just for Radiguet, that bastard you like to hate). If you're fond on martial arts flicks pick Gekiranger, period. Dekaranger has a good writing, as "Deka" is slang for "cop", it's set in a police affairs setting. Each episode can relate to a specific film or trope about police stuff, and there are many (hostage situation, going undercover, suspect survey, etc.) ! |
I had no clue that sentai was even around until I accidentally stumbled upon Kamen Rider and Decade. Actually I don't even remember how I even stumbled upon Kamen Rider....
My first series that I watched was Shinkenger. I was amazed when I first watched. I was actually in awe. I had stopped watching PR for a long time. So I say you start with Shinkenger and work your way around to the other series. |

A group doing a show means things get released faster. |
The first Sentai I ever watched was Shinkengers. I think that's a good starting point.

Personally, I've started Sentai with Magiranger and re-started with Shinkenger- it's a matter of interest though. I liked those seasons because I'm pretty much into Fantasy books (Harry Potter and stuff) and I'm interested in Japan for years now, so those two were an obvious choice. |

Not to say they're bad shows, but just that they weren't what I was wanting in a show. I could recommend Gekiranger all day and all night, but at the end of the day, you like what you're gonna like, and you just might not like it. *Shrugs* |

Thanks for pointing that out as now I know why the files have [MFC] in front of them. |

Megaranger was on the top of my list to watch, but other subbers were getting them out slowly. I am stoked to finally watch this series! |

The first Super Sentai I watched was Gokaiger, so I would recommend that. Or even better, Gekiranger! Beautiful show, amazing characters who train and develop over time (I liked Jan so much... I felt so bad for him and Rio too), and the feels in this show are off the charts, like over-9000 off the charts. But, you'll have to just watch it to believe me. One of the best sentai series I've watched. I'm sure you'll enjoy out! :thumb:
