I'm sorry in advance if there is already a thread like this out there, but I've been wanting to talk about something I noticed.

See, for those of you who have been on Tumblr for awhile, you may know that when the original Don't Hug Me, I'm Scared video was going around, we seemed to develop a "We don't talk about DHMIS" policy. Or rather, a meme saying that we aren't allowed to talk about it.

And awhile ago, before I was really involved with Kamen Rider, I learned that Masked Rider was being adapted from an 80s (granted a LATE 80s) Kamen Rider season and I asked myself why they didn't use the season that was on the air at the same time as Zyuranger or Dairanger...then I found out about something called Kamen Rider Shin, which was released the same year as Zyuranger began airing. Yikes, that henshin scene was something else on the first viewing.

From what I've gathered, Shin was not a very well received movie, even by the adult fans it was aimed at due to it's dark tone, coupled with the unexpected levels of violence and gore. Hell, I recall an episode of OOO that parodied Shin. No one on these boards seem to address Shin at all, or talk about the movie in these forums (Not from what I've seen.), much like how Tumblr tried to refrain from talking about DHMIS.

Just wait until they make a sequel movie for Shin and introduce a new mutant Rider. THEN the floodgates for Shin discussion and fanart with open. :lol

Talk about Shin all you want! I love that gruesome looking bastard, he's one of my favorite designs actually. Just a really beastly organic rider. The movie may not be amazing, but it was mainly so poorly received by kids because of it's very adult themes and almost horror movie aspects. It's fun for what it is, no one will ever call it a masterpiece, but I like it.

I honestly wish they was a continuation to it because it definitely felt unfinished. Would have been a great start to a series instead of a movie. Honestly all three of the Movie Riders would have been amazing series.

Of course it feels unfinished, the films name is Shin Kamen Rider Prologue :lol

It was supposed to be a movie prequel for a new ongoing television series. But because of it's heavy adult & horror themes it didn't test well with kids who expected Kamen Rider to be more heroic. And it didn't test well with veteran fans because it was much more savage and dark than the rider stuff they grew up with. Add to that no kind of toys aside from vinyls and you have nothing marketable to work with. I'd have LOVED to see a Shin series, but alas that will never happen.

To me it reminds me of the MMPR fan film or the Green Ranger film. There taking a childhood hero and turning it into something dark and gruesome. And I cant stand when they do that.

There's nothing stopping you from talking about Shin.
No one here talks about it because it just wasn't a good movie.

I love Shin (I mean just look at my icon) based solely on the fact that, like Den-O, I adore his design.

You have a franchise made up of heroes in suits who do devastating kicks all in the name of justice and then you have this one hero who's basically a monstrous grasshopper who deals with evil by ripping their heads off with the spine still connected.

I honestly wish he was used more in the fiction other than just showing up on the Showa Rider's side. I believe that Kamen Rider manga from a while back used him but I don't know how much.

See and I absolutely love that suit. It''s the most grotesque interesting henshin of any rider, a bit over the top, but ti's very much like the INcredible Hulk. Shin was literally made into a monster. Shin had some real tormented depth to his character that could have easily driven a TV series. It takes the whole forced cyborg thing to entirely new levels.

If they had just dialed back the gruesome during his transformation using some cutaways or something, they could have made it work for TV.

I absolutely adore Shin. his suit is epic and has a cool back story. I loved and enjoyed the movie for what it was, and really wish the story would have continued. having to run from two groups while protecting his kid, I would have watched the hell out of it. I compare shin's movie to that of the 8th doctor movie, cool concept and story, just didn't lift off into something more. I also really wished his figuart came with a hand attached to a skull with spine for that one scene in the movie.

Same here. It creeped me out when I first saw it, and it creeps me out now.

I'm creeped out by the lamest of horror and scary movies. I have to change the channel when a commercial for a scary movie comes on TV. I can't even watch stuff like that without nightmares. And this doesn't affect me at all.

The Shin suit is incredible. So were the villain suits. Everything else about the film was terrible though.

I like what they aimed for concerning Shin's transformation, but I felt it was just too long. Not even taking into account that it's a movie and not a show, it just felt like it was dragging on after a certain point.

We don't talk abut Shin because there just isn't that much to say about it. It was just a mediocre movie from the early 90s that tanked pretty badly and killed the Shin franchise before it got started. The suit is pretty cool, the action is pretty graphic, the film has some boobs in it, but there really isn't much more of note.

I seen people call Shin the Godzilla 1998 of Kamen Rider because he is so different from the other Kamen Riders and the movie feels like nothing like a Kamen Rider movie or show.

The transformation is scary enough but Shins' Sub-Zero-esque finisher is pure nightmare fuel.

Legend has it that if you roast a Kamen Rider 1 Figure it becomes Shin. Then if you sand it JUST enough it becomes ZO. And then if you buffer it up and clear any additional junk off of it, it becomes J.

Shin's "Henshin" is gross and weird.

But the actual suit is neat, man.

For one thing, the Green Ranger spin off would be PG-13, so it wouldn't be as dark and gruesome as you think it is. If nothing else, at least we have that going.

And secondly, some people just want to see a grittier twist to a childhood favorite. Apparently the Kamen Rider fans weren't ready for Shin, though.

Hey has a figuart, we could very well see a SIC down the line.

I don't know if an S.I.C of Shin is such a good idea. If he already serves as nightmare fuel to some, I don't know if an S.I.C is such a good idea.

Besides, don't some people say S.I.C OOO already looks Shin-esque? :lol

I honestly wished the movie had more action in it too. Shin was totally badass but only got to fight for like 15 minutes or less of the hour and half movie.

I can't make a judgement call of my own until I see the full film.

Shin is essentially what Kamen Rider was "meant" to be. Shotaro Ishinomori's original vision was a more organic "freak of science" type thing. Both Shin and SIC are intentionally designe dto reflect his art style and design ideas of an organic, true transformation verses a suit. It's no wonder they're similar.

Hell to the yes on this. Shin is unique in his design and with the creepy cool SIC design I think if his SH Figuart does well then we MIGHT see a SIC for him.

Actually there is going to be a SIC Shin. Artwork has already been shown off of Shin. He'll most likely be the last pre-heise rider to be produced but it looks like it is happening.

All you need to know about Shin is:

1) The henshin scene and finisher scene of the movie are by a large margin the best parts of the movie. If this was The Guyver and not Kamen Rider every fan would love these scene.

2) The rest of the movie varies from "more boring than Wizard" to "WTF is wrong with you people?!" (not including what was mentioned in 1). This is why the movie is garbage. Not because of grim dark, but because the plot is boring and finally just throws it out the window.

3) Shotaro Ishinomori makes a cameo. You can't miss him or his hair.

4) and finally: Kamen Rider Fetus. It fights a guard from WITHIN the womb. That exists people. It's also the true nightmare fuel of this movie.
