It may just be the angle of the picture, but his torso looks way too long for his legs. Weird.

Is it me or does his hand on his red arm look like a claw? It may just be the angle of it. Onto the suit itself it does have a more vicious look to it then the old suit.

I do wonder if they'll try to go too grimdark with this reboot. Didn't the Gavan reboot bomb because people don't like serious tokusatsu? (no offense meant to anyone here; just an observation)

I know nothing about this show, but Haikada is awesome looking, Kikaida on the other hand has to have one of the worst designs I've seen.

Not only the hands but the eyes on Kikaida have different expressions.
Rage on the red evil side, and calmness on the blue good side.

I'll reserve judgment till I see a head-on shot of Kikaida. That's a weird angle.

OG Kikaida has such a bizarre, cool design. This is a very faithful rendition, but they maybe skewed the proportions a little too much, throwing off the look of it. We'll see.

If there is any way at all for me to see old school toku that no one bothers to sub, even if that's a modern reboot, then I'm all for it.

The designs are certainly different, but I like different. It shows they weren't trying to do what every superhero show does.

It's a brilliant update of the original. It would have been easy to take the SIC redesign route, but they kept the playfulness of it. I love it so much.

I agree. It should be bigger, closer to matching the original's proportions. but it could just be the angle.

We all loved the original costume, but it was absurd and absolutely dated. Inazuman was updated much in the same way. Gone was his bulky armor, goofy scarf, and bug eyes. When Gokaiger hit, there were a lot of costumes Toei should have updated that they didn't, like the first three Sentai teams who had those awful stunt helmets with the pinholes in the masks. Toei should have just put real lenses on those helmets. I am glad to see that Toei is at least making updates here and bringing these characters into the modern era and presenting them in a design that has more chances of being taken seriously by newcomers to the series while respecting the origins and heart of the character.

This version of Kikaida is clearly meant to be a more realistic update to the original - and for that, he looks just fine. It is what it needs to be. There's no way his original costume could keep much more than the colors and basic concept behind it. However, Toei was going to revive the character, you had to know that the costume was really going to require a major overhaul.

Kikaider's redesign looks pretty cool, as far as Kikaider goes. I'm not normally a fan of his design.

English is "cool" to Japan. It's almost like slang. It's why Kamen Rider belts typically speak English.

Loving both of these, although I still kinda prefer the Amemiya version of Hakkaider (surprise).

Actually there is a lot of that kinda stuff in Japan, like Dragon Knight and Power Rangers are HUGE in Japan, they're there loving every second of Samurai while we're decrying it for being a watered down version.

How huge is Power Rangers in Japan? Is it really that big a thing? I know they had dubs of the old Saban era series for a while. I find the prospect of them wondering when the subs are coming in for Power Rangers Super Megaforce or something really amusing.

I remember google translating some of their reactions to various PR stuff posted on Niconico. From what I got from google's horrible translations, their reactions range for awful-to interesting-to hilarious, like their reaction to Daggeron from Mystic Force: Hagrid?!

As far as I'm aware the dub every series, and usually the actors dubbing it are the actors of the original roles in that series.

That's actually not correct. In some instances they've gotten the actors back. But it's actually more rare than you'd think. More often the case is they just get new VA's to do the roles instead of the original cast. Though for SPD they did get the Dekarangers back. The Samurai dub I think may feature a few returning actors, but nowhere near the entire cast.

This is also true. It isn't streamed on a major chanel or website. Just the Toei channel. And not everyone has it.

There of course is a following for it in Japan. Enough to warrant the dubs. But it isn't even remotely as popular as sentai is over there.

Red reps evil and blue reps the good so his red side being more jagged is understandable. I just wish they showed Red Kikaider and the blue Perfect Kikaider.

After getting a better look at the suit I'm still very happy they are playing up the whole Frankenstein monster on the red side much like Meimu did in the Code 02 manga. With the more info out I'm glad the kept the professor Komyoji as the creator and I love the new twist on DARK origination just being called ARK. I also think it cool bring back the original Jiro Ban Daisuke from the old show (which i'm still looking for a sub of if any one know a place) i just hope this goes farther than Gavin did
