Super Megaforce Episode 3 Preview Clip
Power Rangers Super Megaforce "Blue Saber Saga" Preview
http://blog.samuraicast.com/power-ra...-saga-episode/ |
That was actually kinda cool? Shame Emma spouted teamwork nonsense despite being the distraction that made Noah get hurt in the first place. And by hurt I mean his sleeve ripped and then he pretended he got cut. CENSORSHIP.
|
You know, for all the crap we give it, there are moments in super mega farce that hint at a brighter future for the franchise. Correct me if you think my opinion is wrong ;) but, while the audio and editing has gotten way worse, everything else seems to be on the up.
I find myself enjoying it... in a this-is-terrible-but-amusing kind of way. |
So this is pretty much a direct translation. I hope this episode isn't entirely copy&paste form Gokaiger, but knowing these writers...I hope at least they have a lien in the beginning on how Noah has been training his Super Mega powers the hardest out of all of them to explain why he's suddenly badass enough to wield five swords at once.
At any rate, I don't find the acting that bad at all in this clip, so that's a plus. If they're gonna just go and copy the Sentai, they might as well put some emotion into it. |
I know I've said this like a billion times but I still don't get why people act like this is a fresh problem for Noah. In Goseiger, EVERYONE was a badarse, as such Noah woulda never worked with any of the characters.
"I'm not cut out to be a superhero" he whined in the first season, before doing six flips, catching his bow in midair, and killing the villain of the week single-handedly. It's like all of the flaws of Billy's characterisation magnified by a thousand. If he does wield five swords without context, then that would actually fit with his character, as his character right now is defined solely by being utterly disconnected from his Ranger form. Everyone else is a better fit, yes, even Troy. Noah is by far my worst character out of this whole mess because say what you want about the shit acting or whatever else, the fact that I can actually buy more into Sing Plants to Life Emma or Is More Robotic RoboKnight Than RoboKnight Troy as Rangers, compared to Noah, says everything about how much he sucks. |

I see your point though. Although...Noah's the stereotypical nerd type while his counterpart in Gokaiger was swordsman, so it made more sense for him to be practicing blocking fifty blades shooting at him while un-morphed. Or maybe I'm just nitpicking, so eh. |
Wouldn't you prefer they had a scene like this one, than Noah simply whacking out the skills at a later date?
It's no worse than RJ training Casey or Theo for a few hours, before they manage to wipe the floor with the MotW... except this time there is the disconnect between Noah and the footage. |
Yeah but remember how Casey's training was cleverly made up of the every day that he found he could transfer across?
I DUNNO IF I CAN BE A SUPERHERO. Noah now says, as he literally unmorphed moves at super speed, doing duel sword training. |
Oooooooh, Uncle Sentai's looking forward to this! A budding romance between Noah and Noah?! And Noah training hard and looking like a Boss! I cannot wait for this! (Despite not being able to see it)

EDIT: Speaking of Casey this episode was written by Jason Smith, apparently. |
I like how Emma was all like 'Oh my God you're hurt'! Err...this dude is Kryptonian, don't worry.

Kids shows have shown blood, they have shown bruises, they could have at least made his arm look dirty or there been some power sparks or something. It just looked stupid him nursing a torn sleeve.

Or is that not super mega enough? NOW THAT'S A SUPER MEGA STITCH. |

Alright, I hope to see how this one plays out, but if it ends up like I think it is, meh. But since someone said Jason Smith wrote it, and true or not, I will watch for that.
But really? Fussin over a sleeve? They couldnt have made one of the blade handles bonk him on the head or something to show he got hurt? |

But isn't that too easy? Kids would totally be expecting that. Better to keep them guessing. :rolleyes |

I KNOW it's a kids show and god knows I'm not a huge fan of the quality of acting, but as a former film student this scene just annoys me.
It would make more sense for him to have missed a spear, and it narrowly miss him or Emma, making him want to train harder. I get the sentai translation thing, which I still find lazy, but when you have him strike the blades out of midair, really bust out some serious moves, then a cut to his arm (that doesn't even pierce the skin) drops him to his knees. I totally get censorship, I've written reports on it, but the fact he obviously hasn't been cut, yet dropped in pain,, makes him look an absolute pussy. It's just stupid, there's better ways to get the same effect without looking lazy and stupid with the writing. |
Am I the only one that's excited for this?

*Insert obligatory Super Megaforce hate here*

Decent enough to make one think that only a Ranger can write for a Ranger
It's not the terrible. I mean the whole training thing does make sense. In translating Goseiger and Gokaiger and transplanting the two into each other to make it a unified whole, there will be contradictions and details one will need to sort out. Having Noah train with swords, someone we know can use a bow, is actually fitting in with the idea that he isn't that used to the transition yet. For the record, Noah didn't make as big a deal with the shirt cut as much as Emma did. She may have thought it was worse that it actually was. Most people who would see someone do anything remotely like this and then see one cut too close and bring them down would naturally assume the worst. Another concern I have is how the episode will work during the battle. Remember, in the Gokaiger original, Blue used various Blue Ranger keys for the Five Saber finish. One of those keys was GoseiBlue, which wouldn't translate well here. Seeing as how they already replaced one Goseiger/Megaforce change with a Boukenger/Overdrive shift, then one might think a change would be waranted here as well. Eh, food for thought.

I'm torn. One one hand, I like that they're changing Noah's character a bit to match the badass swordsman that is Gokai Blue in the sentai footage. But this isn't a nerdy, weak character suddenly becoming an accomplished fighter - yes, they've had one season under their belts as Rangers but they never acknowledged Noah was improving. There was that one episode where Noah gained confidence, and then he stopped developing like any character not getting a focus episode.
I kind of hate that this is, like Samurai, a translation of the sentai script. I do appreciate they're injecting Noah's reasoning into being a loner this time around - "if I get better, the team gets better." That actually makes sense, and I like they didn't just suddenly plant Joe's lone wolf personality onto Noah. This scene is not entirely consistent with the characters, but it's still somehow entertaining. |
I don't care if the writing is somewhat similar to Gokaiger. But damn! The acting feels like I'm watching Samurai all over again!
|
It looks ok. Going to watch episode.
|
Noah sure has come a long way. In Megaforce he was training against hanging water bottles under the watchful eye of Troy. Now he's up to training alone with a contraption that flings knives at him while Troy stands on the beach pining away for Robot Knight.
Also, I don't understand how you can show someone training by have knives flung at them, but you can't show the repercussions of having said knives flung at you. |
Can't wait for kids to try this thinking the worst that could happen is a torn sleeve!
|
I think, if they didn't want to show a real cut, they should've just had Noah screw up his timing and fall over dodging a knife. Then, he could have just pointed out if that was against the monster he'd be finished and the scene could go on in exactly the same way. The scene worked in Gokaiger because they could actually show a cut, if they wanna pull it across and make it not silly, there should've been some compromise.
But really that's the problem with Super Megaforce; every preview we've ever had has been followed with discussions about what's wrong with it. It'd be nice if Super Megaforce could do one scene that didn't have glaring issues. Just one. |
Honestly? People like to pick holes in things. That's not a new phenomenon, in fact its probably as old as time. Doctor Who fans have always picked the hell out of their favourite show. Every new doctor gets a resounding cry of ewww I hate him, before everyone does a 180 and can't bare to see him leave. It's much the same with Sentai suits designs.
Case in point, me and Battlizer and Locke rag on this show's behind-the-scene morality issues all the damn time, but at least 2 out of the 3 of us have admitted to enjoying it at a base level. I'll say it again, having Noah be seen training is orders of magnitude better than him randomly having the skills when the Gokaiger footage turns up. That's not to say there's nothing wrong with the character and how he's handled, just... try seeing the wood for the trees... training for a few seconds on screen often equals a couple of days in tv land. That's not a new thing either. |
Plus the best thing a show could hope for is its audience, is that it's critical. Being critical of something shows an active response to the material and that you have enough investment in it to be critical of it.
The worst thing a show could ever hope from its audience is 'it was okay'. |
