Power Rangers Super Megaforce Episode 03 - Blue Saber Saga
Former cast member Jason Smith ("Casey", the Power Rangers Jungle Fury Red Ranger) makes his writing debut in the episode that adapts a fan-favorite Gokaiger episode.
After being humiliated by a master swordsman monster, Noah makes it his personal mission to better himself in order to defeat the monster. Can he master the Super Mega Sabers to defeat the monster? NOTABLE GOKAIGER POINTS IN THIS EPISODE - A Jungle Fury morph (Red, Yellow, Violet, White) - An SPD morph (Red, Yellow, Green, Pink) - Usage of the Legendary Dragon Zord (Mystic Force) - Another shot of the Gokai Galleon / Sky Ship? Vote and discuss! |
So far in Super Megaforce, SPD seems like a popular Legendary mode for the Mega Rangers(3 episodes of their use!) But I loved the story arc of this episode in Gokaiger and I will enjoy it here too.
|
They can just go right into super mega mode?!
|
I guess it was expected that an episode written by a Jungle Fury Ranger would have the Rangers morph into the Jungle Fury Rangers. Not that I'm complaining.
|
Jason Smith writing time! :D
-Isnt that the same flower she photographed last year? -They used the same building falling clip, but reversed :lol -Jake is gonna blow something up... -Ah the sleeve :lol -I just realized this is basically him beating himself up over something that the whole team is going through, damn. -OKay, gotta admit that sword split was pretty cool -Emma, could you have stared any more blanker at the screen? -Straight morph to Super Mega! I have been waiting for this one! Why didnt we get it to begin with? -Another straight Super Mega morph! -My favorite team! :D And me! -I like how Gosei glowed blue in his background for this one -Thank Zordon we got a callout for each key he used! -'Rangers use the Mystic Force Megazord' 'Rangers! Activate Mystic Force Dragon Zord!' Pick one! So a good episode. |
so the only mystic force was in the blue saber finisher and Noah's "courage" unlocking the mystic dragon to use. entertaining but all in all its meh. did love the use of other suits, and cool to see jungle fury. liked that Noah had mystic blue in hand at end.

My thoughts as i watched:
the morph into megaforce at the beginning of the episode is entirely pointless, there is no reason for them to do it. i really liked the dynamic between Emma and Noah for the most part though. im also really liking Vekar more and more as this goes on too, he's funny and i love it. and the more i think about it the more i like how the MOtW is singling out Noah, he's basically just like "You're chivalrous, I'll kill you first." this might also be the first episode that had a Mr. Burley scene i've liked. not sure how i feel about Noah pretty much just being Joe in this though. he's acting like way too much of a loner it's kinda uncalled for. unless he did something like this in megaforce. i don't think Gosei really needed to tell Noah to use his keys in the saber, i mean he's done it like 4 or 5 times now, he knows what to do. the unlocking of the mystic force power was really what i was hoping wouldn't happen. it had nothing to do with the episode other than Noah used the key in saber at the end. i did like how the whole team did their little victory call after beating the MOtW instead of just Troy doing it. overall, i'd say it was on par with the last episode, it was average. I also just realized Noah used the megaforce blue key, HOW?! |
I thought it was a pretty good episode, me thinks the Megaforce rangers like SPD a little too much. :lol
|
Minus you Saban apologists with a glutton for punishment, how'd you find the episode?
I was pretty much done with this show, but when I saw that the Red from my favourite Power Rangers show was writing this, it made me want to give it another go. Even if the clips have admittedly been pretty poor. |
At least it wasn't a complete carbon copy of the Gokaiger episode that was used on? Some nice interaction between Emma and Noah at the beginning.
I think the scene where the sword monster tells Noah that he wants to duel him one on one was a new scene not from Gokaiger. Noah being able to block hundreds of swords flying at him unmorphed then splitting one in half is hilariously nonsensical. They really don't need to use the Goseiger suits now that they can insta-morph into Super Mega Mode...But that might cause them to stop filming new footage so I dunno... So there are Megaforce keys now??? Well, I guess if they could use forms of old rangers that had multiple suits, I guess...Dunno how they unlocked the Mystic Force dragon zord from that though. I guess cause Noah used Mystic Blue in his final strike? Or maybe cause apparently, Mystic Force yellow voiced the monster, lol. So I dunno. eh/10. It wasn't either horrendous or amazing so. |

or... They might as well be SPD, and then maybe the acting would get better. Still, Loudermilked it. It wasn't a bad adaptation. Sorry, I'm enhancing the ratings. I shall go wallow in the pit of shame as I binge watch Gaim. |

I'm going to state this for future threads: everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but this thread is for discussing the episode at hand. do not come in here and insult people who happen to like it or dislike it. that means no calling people saban apologist as if they are lesser fans and viceversa.

Hoping I don't get in trouble for listing a download link... |
Pretty nice work, considering a Ranger wrote this. Funny enough, it was the episode where Troy first transforms into said past ranger's form. I see what you did there~
Some of this feels more natural, which I'm digging...but again, I raise the question... What was the point of making the Gokaiger gear glorified power ups when they have shown they can just pop right into Super Mega Mode instead of having to transform into Mega mode and THEN Super Mega mode? And does anyone give me a GOOD reason why there are suddenly Megaforce keys? Just like Dairanger, they seem to have come out of nowhere. |
Wow, this episode actually wasn't half bad. As far as adapting the sentai goes it was fairly decent to keep the tone of the original story with a few good spins here and there for good measure. The fact that they actually used Joe's training method from Gokaiger legit surprised me as did showing the destruction of buildings. The monster this time around was actually rather threatening, probably going to end of being one of my favorites this season and the conflict he gave to Noah was believable and pretty well handled.
On a final note, I'm liking how they're mixing up the order in which the grand powers are received. Keeps things interesting for those who've seen the sentai. If Saban can keep up the quality that this episode had I think we'll have a pretty solid season over all. :) |

As an analogy, consider the brightness on your phone. The brighter it gets, the more energy it uses, so when you are at 35% power, you turn it down to last until you can get it to a charger. |

I mean, no need to lug around two morphers if they can use the powers that were bestowed by the first one by using a key, right? |

A bit better I guess. I can at times tell where Gokaiger was used. But was there any original fight footage? Or was it all stock footage?
|
i really enjoyed the episode. it was slightly better i did like some of the things they did not all. but yet again they edit out meaforce red in episode one but kept blue in noahs finaly attack then why could we not have megaforce red in the first episode then

I have more well formed thoughts to share on this episode as well, just trying to word them. |
I absolutely loved this episode, especially Noah basically doing the same training as Joe but how they did was pretty awesome. I liked Noah and Emma together that was pretty nice. They are working really well and the Villains dialogue is funny and great. I love this season a lot right now.
|
I enjoyed this episode a lot more, it seems like Jason Smith had a better handle on this episode than the writers on the first one, maybe the rangers are still in the habit of morphing into their Mega Force suit first, so it was nice to see Noah being able to morph directly into the Super Mega Force suit. Emma though, what the heck, Noah said "Can I give you a hand?" not "Let me carry all your junk" LOL

It's still kinda jarring that you can tell the moments where they spliced in the Japanese footage but yeah this episode was more enjoyable.
Although I cracked up laughing at the monsters "Witness my SKILLS" Lineā¦.that monster wouldn't know subtlety if it hit him in the face:lol |
Are these episodes available on Netflix after they air or do I need to use Nick's website?

Meh, that was probably my least favourite episode so far.
Given the hype behind Jason Smith writing it, I was kinda expecting something a little bit more notable than that. I've not really been one to complain about the character differences between the Gosei and Gokai footage because I didn't really think its been that bad so far, but Noah did really stick out like a sore thumb here. Half the time he felt like a completely different character. The show really needs to get a hold on how it wants to play the Super Megaforce powers as well. If they can straight morph to Super Mega then why not do it all the time? They know all the new monsters are apparently going to be too powerful for them so why bother with the standard mode? Even though the original fight footage didn't really amount to anything last week, I appreciated it being there. Now the show has the perfect excuse not to shoot anything at all. Following on from that, so there are Megaforce keys now? Okay. Mystic Dragon introduction was kinda half-assed as well. Courage is the source of magic etc etc but they could have done it better than that. Jason Smith is writing the Jungle Fury one too right? I hope he does better there. |
Okay. I've had some time, here I am. I accept the hatred I'm going to receive.
Episode 3 of Super Megaforce has again disappointed me. I thought perhaps the first two episodes could have been chalked up to the crew trying to find their footing in this new scenario. However it's not. We're 3 for 3 on terrible episodes now. - ADR? Still completely terrible. Yet more generic and repetitive voice overs for the villains. Every one sounds the same. Deep gruff male voice 1, 2, 5, & 7 all sound like the same guy. And the needless "qupis" the rangers toss in during morphed scenes are still jarring. - Original footage is always a good thing. When it's appropriate. But the US footage they've been shooting here is just plain pointless. It starkly contrasts to the quality of the Gokaiger footage. And the need to switch from Megaforce to Super suits all the time is just an impediment to the flow of any episode it occurs in. Not to mention this episode clearly shows that you don't even have to use the original Megaforce suits to go super at all. So what's the point Saban? Why do you need to simultaneously have new costumes & old ones? Why let that constrict the story you're trying to tell? If the Megaforce suits are "weaker" why even continue to use them? - Speaking of Megaforce, why keys now? It's yet more evidence of the needlessness of keeping these suits around. Yes there are Gosieger keys in the original footage. But it's been shown they can cut rangers out of footage when necessary, like cutting Megaforce Red in episode 1. So why not just cut out the footage containing the keys too? Or better yet, get rid of this ham-fisted concept that the rangers need both forms, leave the keys and suits in the adapted footage and just say they can access their old powers if need be, just like they can access other Legendary Powers? I swear if some common sense were just applied here this show could be tolerable. - I think Jason Smith is a really cool guy and I think he has a true appreciation for what he does. But more or less the key elements of this episode were copy/pasted from the source with a couple of extra needless elements thrown in. Of all the episodes to just straight up adapt, why this one? - There was no attempt to get Noah's character to line up more with the footage. The inability to match the characters personalities as they originally were with the footage here is more and more glaring. The actors gave off fairly similar personalities that matched up to the Goseiger footage last year. But now, their civilian identities don't match up at all with the ranger footage we're given. Noah's mismatch is the most obvious of all. - "Teamwork & Determination has unlocked the Mystic Force Megazord"? You mean Mystic Dragon Zord? Again a tribute without a tribute. Hey you guys are awesome! So here's another new power I've been sitting on for a year and not telling you about. - I still facepalm every time I hear "Super Mega Win". I think I could appreciate what they were trying to do with this show, if I felt they were actually trying. I want to reiterate, I know this show is for children. But yet again I feel it's necessary to make the point that Saban promised a a legendary anniversary season "for the fans". And I don't know about the rest of you, but I've seen no such thing in the last 3 weeks. |
