Episode 19: More songs... Smoky, you crazy cat-person thing. So yeah. I liked this episode, even if Meemy seems way too overpowered. If I know PRMF, and I did, I'm gonna enjoy seing him have his ass handed to him.

Also, does anyone else think that that third line seems like an evangelion movie?

Smoky is one of my absolute favorite supporting/extra hero type characters. Way better than the oaf they turned him into for Mystic Force. His way of sort of avoiding trouble is fun and entertaining here. And as a puppet character he's way more fun than Mandora.

Of course Hikaru is the star here. An absolutely gorgeous design. Heroes with capes are badass and Magi SHine is no different. The carpet, the lamp buster, everything about him is really solid. And of all the sinats we get to see later on his is by far the best design. As Sungel he really looks like some kind of warrior god, appropriately.

Interesting start for the arc, Smoky was entertaining, the frog thing is way too obvious, but they didn't try to hide it much either, and Meemy is an interesting opponent, he can turn into a fan too! :lol

That was okay. I'm still not a fan of the songs in this show, but at least these were better than the Mandora Boy one from episode 2 or 3. Mare's actress has a pretty decent singing voice.

Some of the greenscreen effects here were pretty awful, but I did like the fight against giant Meemy. Regular sized Meemy, though... come on, guys, don't use movie ninja tactics. You're a team, attack in tandem so he can't easily counter you one at a time (except for you, Houka. You can just, I don't know, stand in the background and try not to get in the way too much).

I'm liking Smoky more than his US counterpart so far, which is, in fairness, not a high bar to set. Looking forward to Magi Shine, although my first torrent is done so I need to wait for the second batch to download.

Is there any reason why the first set of subs (1-19) went pretty quickly,, but the 20-39 set is taking forever?

Depends on the connection speeds of who ever's seeding it.

I get that, but what confuses me is that, presumably, it would be the same set of people seeding it but it's taking at least 3X a long.

This is what I'm talking about, Meemy and Hikaru join the action. After invoking the Heavenly Saints so often, we get one as the big bad for the second arc and the new team member. Meemy starts off rather overpowered, but that makes sense considering he was a Heavenly Saint now turned member of Infershia. The Ozu siblings obviously can't compete with that right now. I never really noticed during my original watching, but you can see Raijel's mouth on the head of the Meemy suit, a neat little touch. The transition from Hades Beasts and to Hades Beastmen was a nice transition as well because the Magirangers have to work harder to deal with them because they are intelligent. On the other side of things we get Hikaru aka Sungel. He's the perfect new team member for the Magirangers because he can actually teach them to use their powers better. MagiShine is a really awesome suit design and I really like his calm and composed fighting style. And then we have his mech Travelion, a giant train. That's rather topical for Super Sentai wouldn't you say :lol?

20: A perfectly average episode til MagiShine introduction, and what an introduction it was! A great fight and an awesome theme brought an epic conclusion to this ep.
Hikaru is interesting, as much as he teases and makes fun of others it still feels like he's holding himself back, whether this is intentional or simply the actor's performance I found it worth mentioning.

The introduction of the Hades Beast Men raised the stakes for future fights too.

Magi Shine is one of the best 6th heroes. Hikaru just has a nice range for his personality. He still doesn't beat out Bouken Silver, Gao Silver, or Gokai Silver in my book but he's very very likable.

I've always said this show picks up in the teens and never looks back, I hope this week proves it to the skeptics :D

Back when I first watched all I could compared him to was Eiji. Now that I've have more series under my belt, I can definitely say Hikaru is definitely one of the best 6th Heroes.

I'll still love Eiji and his ridiculous vegetables :lol

Anybody think we should watch Boukenger VS Super Sentai at the end of this LWW? After all it does prominently star Tsubasa, Hikaru, & Meemy.

He also doesn't look that bad in a dress. Spoilers for the Magi/Deka team-up.

I'm down for it. I've been meaning to catch that one for awhile since Tetsu's in it and I'm a sucker for anything Dekaranger-related.

Hikaru's entrance was pretty badass, not gonna lie. Probably one of the better debuts of a sixth warrior I've seen in a Sentai. He looks like he's going to bring a fun new dynamic to the show, even if the next episode looks like it's going to involve Makito being whiny (but then Makito scenes are what fastforwarding was invented for ;)).

Nai and Mare made me think of something today. You know what I miss in more recent Sentai? The hot villain girls. The only one we've had since Mele was Escape, and she was only brought in at the halfway mark. They need to revive that role. Because I'm shallow and apparently kinda sexist.

Sure, I was expecting that anyway. While it doesn't make up for the injustice of no Boukenger vs. Magiranger, it does allow us to see how Tsubasa turned out. Actually, I might go as far as devil's advocate to include the Gokaiger tribute episode so we can see how Kai grew since the series ended.

I could actually get behind some more human villianesses in Sentai again. They add a nice dynamic to the series.

Surprisingly neither of them do! :lol I love that team-up, one of the best VS, even if they really shoe-horned in the whole Battlizer thing.

If no one voices objections then the final week of this LWW will be Boukenger VS. Super Sentai then. I had wanted to include it anyway but figured I'd better put it out there for the group that's keeping up with this.

And dude I totally agree.Nigh/Mare/Vancuria filled that roll nicely here. Despite the haters I enjoyed Escape, thought she was attractive, but she also added a level of badassery to the bad guys. Her rivalry with Ryuji was especially memorable. Would love to see that type of character come back into play.
Nah. No Gokaiger episodes. Otherwise I would have inserted the Geki tribute into LWW last year. We should save episodes of Gokaiger for the eventual time we do Gokaiger for this thing. It'll roll off the too recent list in another year.

Can't hate any episode that ends with Mandora Boy getting thrown in a furnace. :D

It was a Makito episode so I kinda fastforwarded through most of the scenes that weren't about Hikaru. I feel slightly guilty about that, but mostly just because it meant missing a lot of Houka's bare midriff and the hilariously bad animatronic mammoth. I liked the parts I did see, though, even if the scene on the Travelion made me wish I was watching ToQGer instead (although Travelion's mech mode has ToQ-Oh beat hands down).

I'm liking Hikaru a lot so far. He manages to be more experienced and seasoned, but isn't a douche about it in any way. He legitimately wants to help teach the others but is still friendly and approachable. It's a pity his US version was so incredibly bland and forgettable.

21: Ah Hikaru, you are such a loveable troll, you can simply imagine him hearing the beast man plan and waiting for the last possible moment to shoot him. :lol

The rest was a Makito episode... Eriko showed up again, and you know stuff.

So, after careful consideration, I have to bow out of this show. It's just not doing anything for me. The bright spots aren't enough to outweigh my general disinterest in the main characters.
