ToQger Episode 4 "Don't Forget Your Personal Belongings" Discussion
The search for the home town of our heroes continues! But Tokatti's lost his Rainbow Pass! No ride for you, time to walk. Can Mio help Tokkati find his reason to live? Time for the Shield Ressha to debut! For any users who'd like to view this episode via live stream on Saturday feel free to head over to Taima TV. They play other random programs up until the live broadcast starts, generally marathons. Live Streams are at 5:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
It's live time!
|
And I remembered the start time this week! So apparently they realized the pass does something.
|
Robot Naomi just gets creepier and creepier.
|
Oh Wagon, just when things were getting good for Tokatti :lol
|
Save for the surprise fight at the end I thought this ep wasn't as good as the first three. Though I'm liking Schwartz more and more.
|
Though I haven't wanted any of the toys so far, after seeing the commercial, I kind of want the bazooka now. Darnit. Also, Mio is all kinds of awesome. I'm wondering if the Shadow Line robots will be like the back-up Megazords that popped up in Go-Busters from time to time. The monster of the week was interesting, design-wise, but not as compelling as last week's, I think. Shield Ressha is ace, though.
|
Car Carrier next week?
I assume Tank will be on tv by end of March or first week of April. |
I'm still laughing at how in the openings so far, 4 of the 5 ToQgers have fallen in the second explosion(well Hikari didn't really fall just tripped). Can't wait to see Kagura's fall XD. As for the episode, I enjoyed it as much as the previous three. ToQger is growing on me.
|
The train is late again, but it got here. (i.e. subs are up :p)
|
Grah. No DDLs for the subs yet.
|
I gotta say, I wasn't all that fond of the ToQ suit designs when I first saw them, but seeing them in action is making them grow on me.
|
Enjoyed it a lot as usual. The fights are always really fun and frenetic and I love that. I think Right really likes being Pink somehow. :lol
Glad this also confirms that most adults can't see the Rainbow Line. Maybe the fights really are invisible to the average human. |
Pretty good episode.. I think I like last episode a little more, but the monster here was pretty cool. For some reason I just noticed the helmet design a little more.. They all have like different train features on them.. A little more detail than I had originally thought.
I could have done for a little bit more fighting.. But the zord battle at the end really made up for it. Good episode overall. |
This week's ToQger is totally a Joe and Sora episode. All it needs is a Bakemon. :lol
The episode was okay, though I'm getting a bit tired of them throwing the word imagination around without really using it. |
Although the implementation/execution of the ToQ pass = money thing left a lot to be desired - how'd he return the items if he left the pass behind? - I at least appreciated the effort.
It may be a largely irrelevant point for children, but as an adult living in a money controlled world, there are quite a few toku shows where I'm amazingly jealous that they seem to have infinite amounts of money they can just seemingly summon out of thin air with sheer quantity of STUFF they seem to have every episode. Mio continues to grow as my favourite member of the team, proving herself now in pretty much every episode that she's the glue that holds the team together. Both of our girls have thus far been well used, which is surprising for sentai. Although this show is goofier than perhaps I'd like it's much more intelligent in its use of self aware humour than Kyoryuger ever was. So there were some really fun moments. And although this was probably the weakest villain so far (in a LOT of ways) I pretty much love every fight scene in this show, not because of the gimmick or anything like that just because I LOVE the theme. Someone smoking a cigarette in an arm chair could look epic with that theme playing over the top. And to give the show credit, the way Kagura drags the weapons around and Takotti pushes up his tracks and stuff are really fun little details for when they're transformed. It's ironic that for a show that puts so much effort into the world building, characterisation etc it's surprising just how much the mech portion in this show SUCKS even by sentai standards. I was really really excited for enemy mechs, but then that is what we got. After Gobus and Kyoryuger and even to an extent ToQ-Oh, was it THAT HARD to even make them look like robots? The Crows driving are more interesting than the generic footsoldier looking suit they used for the DarkLiner Robos. It didn't break the episode for me as I don't really care for the mech stuff, and usually the mech stuff in this show is pretty throwaway as it is, but the pain of a wasted opportunity always stings a lot. It really stings. *wipes away tear* Overall, I'm going with good simply because I KNOW this show can do better even if this episode was pretty great overall. And at least I know that after last weeks episode, this show can also be a lot worse while still being really enjoyable. It's a fantastic start to the show, with a few minor hiccups, and I'm honestly very excited for more. Is it possible I could be enjoying the current sentai more than the current Rider?! |
How exactly does the pass work? Wagon says "they have to pay it off" but how would they get money for that??

They could go all-out with the money thing and have Conductor pay the ToQGers whenever they defeat one of the Shadow Line to clear the balance on their passes. Not that this was a bad episode or anything. Though I kinda liked it better when this happened to Umeko in Dekaranger. |
Given how the Conductor has been, you really expect him to be that generous?

Really liked this week's episode, too. The lost pass story wasn't that gripping, but I was deeply amused by Mio and Tokatti having to take a cab to the first fight. I liked the character stuff with both of them and I thought the action was good overall, although the monster wasn't that deeply developed this time. I also liked the bit with Kagura and the axe, that was pretty much the only thing she did of note this week, but it got a good laugh out of me.
I am really, really loving this show. There's something about it - I can't really put my finger on what it is exactly - that just clicks with me. I think it says a lot that I had time to squeeze in one of this week's shows tonight and I chose this over the new Gaim. |
This is the most enjoyable episode for me so far even though MOW is pretty lame. Mio is fast becoming the reason why I am watching the show. She's got a bit of the feistiness of Luka but is still very caring of her fellow ToQuger.
The auxillary trains so far are quite underwhelming. Hopefully we'll get to see some cool trains coming along. |
Anyone else see a Right x Kagura, Tokatti x Mio thing going on?
Or is this just me and my IMAGINATION. |

Not only was Kyoryuger's tacked on right at the end, it was barely even established.
"I have feelings and stuff" *hug* THERE'S YOUR ROMANCE. |

The only other carried through relationships (as in realistic and not tacked on) I can think of currently are in Jetman & Magiranger. |
I guess if nothing else if ToQ ends up having a romantic focus, it can at least say it tried something different, even if it's a basic and pretty shallow shift in focus.
|
I haven't gone far in Kyoryuger, and you guys made me wonder who ended up pairing up so I did some Google searching. Huh, never would have guessed. Good for them, I suppose. :)

Jetman's was handled perfectly. Magiranger's not quite so much, but still a huge step above Bouken and Kyoryu's I think. |
Just saw episodes 3 and 4, so I guess I'll include what I gotta say for both here. Before that though, I gotta say I'm really digging the suits now. I was never really a hater of them before, but they didn't really stand out to me then. Now they do and I like 'em a lot. I do sorta hate how the colors look though, Especially green. Just looks off to me.
Liked the character focus on both of these eps. Little by little we discover more of their past. If they start doing this one per episode, little by little, we might be able to piece what happened to them together. 3 showed off the power of Mio's imagination and how she could endanger herself if she wasn't careful with using it. And 4 was cool in how it spent time devloping both Tokatti and Mio. Other than that, not much to say. Humor was funny, fights were cool...Oh and I do find it interesting to point out how the ToQger's pointed out that the monster's goal in 4 was a little simple compared to what Shadow Line's done in the past. I dunno, just something I found funny. And Schwartz is shaping up to be the most interesting of the villains we've got so far. I wonder if Shadow Line can make their own ranger... |
I need a DX Darkliner Robo in my life.

Anyone notice how Right is almost solely line changing with Kagura these days? That certainly proves something for those of us who thought they were testing the gender-colour mix water with the gimmick.
Enjoyable episode. Not amazing, but didn't drag, funny in the right places (lol'd at Tokatti and his shopping). I'm getting hints of something plottish lurking beneath the surface of these seemingly filler/character dev. episodes... very curious indeed. But then again I might be looking too closely. Conducter's "duty", compounded with Right's insistence on debunking Ticket? Sounds suspiciously like foreshadowing, my friends. |

First thing that popped into my head when I saw that. :lol |

This show is certainly improving as it goes along.
I take back what I said about the villains being the best thing on the show. That's 2nd place to the insane finishers we get out of the team's cannon thingy. :lol |
