I think I might actually give Super Megaforce a chance this week, after skipping the last two episodes as they filled me with hatred.
|
Looking forward to this.. On tuesday when I can watch it on Hulu.

I realize this is just a watered down version of the sentai plot, but i couldn't help but smile at every second of this episode.
I'm disappointed at the fact that there was no cameo of a wild force Ranger but i think the episode was well done. |
I need to get that extension so I can stream stuff from different countries so I can grit my teeth with everyone else :lol
|
Im gonna just live type this and post after the episode-
I like how we are starting off with fighting the Armada, and having to use all of the powers so far to finish the fight. "Super Mega Win." *sigh* Is Noah the only one who researches the previous teams? It seems Gia is starting to like Jake's failed flirting, please Gosei let this happen at the end and does not get dropped! How is it Troy can sounds emotional in suit, but when we see his face, he has none? He is worse than Tsukasa We went 10 seconds of fighting without anything talking, but only one line, so this is better I do wonder where the other Wild Zords during this, youd think Eagle would have been flying around. Oh I am glad we got Zeltrax/Colonel Truman to voice this villian, he sounds awesome! Hey a throwback to Wild Force roll call! My favorite suits! Wild Access! A bunch of cannon fodder against a giant lion? :lol So if you in a legendary morph, and fall from the sky, you get knocked back down to Megaforce with no problem? Okay, at least we got around Jetman footage Troy you actually have a point there, or was that Noah? Who cares, we just got a throwback to Wild Force! Ah bull sound :lol Its not general, its colonel Troy... :p I thought it was Final Strike! Not Super Mega Blast! Aw I was hoping for the call of the zords sound... Giant lion growls at you, what do you do? Jump on it for sure! Yeah Gosei, they found it! You did not do crap! Once again! I can just see even Red Lion pawpalming at that one Jake :lol So thats my reactions to PR:SMF EP4. Final thought? This was probably my favorite episode so far, and because of that, I think Ill vote excellent. |

We'll it's about time they earned a zord instead of letting Gosei giving it to them. The episode was totally great but not that great.
|
Ya know, this is the first episode of Megaforce/Super Megaforce that actually made me smile since Dream Snatcher, but that one was basically because of the ending bit with Robo Knight.
They actually showed some effort with this one. There was quite a bit of new footage, the moments with Jake and Gia on the ship were rather adorable, and they actually earned this zord for once. All the throwbacks to Wild Force really made this Wild Force fan happy, and I actually look forward to Jayden's cameo in next week's episode so that we can see what I like to call "Shinken Gaokai-Oh" in Super Megaforce. Though, what really made me smile with nerdish glee was the (sadly brief) transformation by Jake into the black ranger from Dino Thunder. They even used one of the sounds (which I pretty sure is just a stock roar sound) from that show. Something that is funny to me is that Saban seems to be putting a lot more care into "Tribute Episodes" involving their ranger seasons. First all this effort put into this one, and next week's episode will be the first one to actually show a veteran ranger. I get the feeling that if Saban was involved, that season is going to get a lot of love...with the exception of SPD, they seem to use that one a lot. :lol |
The one misstep i've seen from Super megaforce so far is that they decided not to use the theme songs when they morph into the old rangers.
Adding the themes to the these team really adds an extra punch to the moment. |
So wait, when they were searching the Island for the Lion, and the parts where they were first fighting the Xborgs, was that new footage? Or stock?

I'm back! Let my criticisms ruin your day no matter how small or big they may be :lol
"Forget dog-fighting these jets, we're gonna dragon fight them!" I believe that piece of awful ADR sets the tone. - You've won a bunch of battles so go talk to this lion. The motivations for the rangers getting new powers/weapons/zords continue to be non-existent in this show. There's no driving force for them to be doing what they're doing at all. - I know people like new footage, but was it entirely necessary to have them using binoculars with their suits on and no helmets? I guess I just don't get the point of scenes like that. What was the advantage of wearing their ranger suits but not the helmets? While we're on that subject was it necessary to film all of a minute of new footage with the Megaforce suits just because they fell to the ground later in the episode? They immediately changed again so why? - The characters at least feel like they fit the footage more now. But Noah and Jake still just don't sync up in my opinion. - Why splice in the all black ranger change from episode 3 of Gokaiger into this episode at all? Just to pad it out? Because it wound up being pointless when the next cut is them in their super mega suits coming to help Jake & Troy. - I don't care if it's a small point we shouldn't get worked up about, but it's very noticeable to see where they poorly edited out the Turborangers. It isn't just Pink Turbo either, it's the entire team. Because the colors more or less match up with Gaoranger they thought no one would notice. But I did, and I think it's a further example of the poor editing of this show to leave something like that in. Of course most people won't even see it, kids definitely won't. But again I feel like the "for the fans" statement Saban blanketly made about this season should at least guarantee us a quality product. - What the hell did they even do to "earn the red lion's trust"? In the source footage at least Ahim & Doc helped earn the respect of Gao Lion after befriending Gao Red. But because this show has seen fit to throw motivations for it's characters out the door, none of that's present here. Things just sort of happen to the rangers out of the blue whether it contextually makes sense or not. I know I'm that guy, and people probably think I hate this show simply because it's Power Rangers and not Sentai. Which simply isn't true. If I want to watch Gokaiger I'll go watch it again. What I'd like to see here is something that at least pays similar tribute to it's history. But that just isn't happening. This episode was at least structurally better than the last one, but I still didn't think it was very good. I'm even voting bad and not horrible this time to prove it. |
What was the reason for the Lion not accepting them? I haven't seen the episode yet, but I assume they made up one. In Gokaiger, it was because they were more interested in their own goals then protecting humanity and it only joined them once he and GaoRed witnessed them protecting humans, even if Red, Yellow and Blue denied that was their intention. None of that matches up with anything in Super Megaforce, so did they make up their own plot or was the lion just a dick and randomly adversed helping to save humanity for no reason?

Had to watch it on hulu since I missed it yesterday. I thought the episode was okay. Liked it way better than last week's. Troy was barely in this episode at all. He was essentially morphed the whole time aside from that one scene in the command center, where he basically just stood there and said nothing. His ADR acting is better anyway.
Mason Truman voicing the monster of the week. Surprising lack of dog puns too. I think they filmed new Green footage to show Jake as a competent fighter...but later on they keep footage of GokaiGreen's goofy fighting style. It doesn't bother me that much honestly, since Jake has a tendency to goof around anyway. And...why can Noah sense the presence of the Red Lion. They never explain that! Why bring it up at all?! But yeah, I thought it was okay. Still nothing outstanding but I don't think anything was that horrible either. When it came time for the scene where they left int he Turborangers, I honestly barely noticed. Though that may be because I'm not that familiar with the suits. Quote:

This show just doesn't want to create character motivations. |
So... Why didn't he just join them straight up? What a jerk-ass lion! Seems like sort of a contrived plot and the whole episode sounds like one big fight scene with older Gokaiger episode footage filling in the gaps. Was the scenes of Yellow, Blue and Red protecting humans used?
Still, I'll reserve judgement until I see it. Just sounding a bit disappointing. The original footage in the second preview and the implication of actual plot in the first preview actually put my hopes up a little. |
I decided to give Super Megaforce another chance and the episode turns out to be fucking garbage again. Just like Megaforce, the best parts of this show come from the sentai and just like Megaforce even that is so poorly used and surrounded by so much ineptitude that you can't even appreciate that.
Even "good" moments like the "Wild Access" tribute morph fail because firstly Gosei doesn't even fucking pronounce the place right, but where the fuck even are they?! A ten second google search http://www.rovang.org/wiki/animarium-valley.jpg pulled up this screengrab. Last I checked it didn't look like a fucking public park and before someone says that is nitpicking, couldn't they at least fucking try? They could have just greenscreened shit in, like how cool would it be if they fought on that cliff that Cole first met the Red Lion? So we could see the Animarium expanding behind them? I don't even fucking like Wild Force and this shit offended me to no end. Not to mention the ten billion questions raised in this episode. You're telling me the Red Lion Zord for the past decade of seasons has just been chilling on the island? Even though the episode makes it sound like he's some icon of justice, I find that hard to swallow considering the amount of times the Earth has been in danger the last decade and he chose not help, even as Rangers were getting slaughtered and Zords were getting destroyed just like what happened to him. And before someone brings up the obvious point I know you're going to make, I get that, but it's up to the show to make sense of these things. Without any context the Red Lion just comes across as a flying dickhat. And this show continues to be a Megafail, a SUPER Megafail. -_- |
Saban's idea of "tribute" needs work
Okay, different, not perfect, needs polishing.
Key Points that would have made this slightly better: -Show remastered footage of Wild Force Megazord and Pegasus Megazord (Pegasus was when they stopped Onikage and was originally known as GaoKentaurus, which Gao Gokaioh's look is based off of). -Have an excuse for Red Lion's look. Even if it was mentioned that the Princess remains in hibernation and the Lion has acheived greater powers for the sole sake of defending the island, it would have at least been a good throw-away explanation. -Instead of knocking them off the island with bad effects to cover Turborangers, add an effect to pre-existing scenes that show the Rangers and Peluso getting blasted in new footage. -They at least tried to cover the "Gao" kanji this time even though you could see it shatter during the relevant tribute morph. Now they care! -Good use of meshing multiple Gokaiger episodes here. Though the all-black change must of been used to "eat" the clock and again showcase that this team can become any set of Rangers one can think of (cut that bit out here or have them save Troy and Jake in new footage). -Orgs were all about pollution. Wouldn't a mention about that have been a decent Wild Force reference (and fit in with Emma's "protect the beauty of this magnificant planet" jive). -Where are the suits for Zen-Aku, Jindrax, and Toxica? If you aren't going to re-hire previous actors, couldn't you at least show previous costumes? That's all I got right now. Hopefully Jayden can be more than cardboard next week! |

Best part of the episode was "Black Alien" http://i2.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/..._animated1.gif

OK, so I finally saw it myself.
So, it was pretty meh and the whole episode was just really shallow. Any semblance of plot was removed and padding was just everywhere. Why on earth did they use the Black footage from the previous episode for all of five seconds? Really, why? They cut out the actual fight footage of them as Black Rangers and just cut straight to them meeting back up with Red and Green, even though there was no good reason for them to be split up in the first place. Come on guys, unnecessary padding. Why on earth keep the Change if you're going to cut out the fight? That doesn't make sense. Also, what a prick is that lion? He had literally no reason to reject them. He just attacked them in the first place and then suddenly he changes his mind and now they're best buddies and the lions so awesome. Nope, Lion, you're a jerk. And this dialogue: Gia: "He could've eaten us whole!" Troy: "But he chose not to." Troy, that lion just made a direct attempt on your life. It knocked you off the island in the exact same way it knocked off the bad guys, don't act like it was showing some form of restraint. On that note, I was really looking forward ot seeing how they'd change the scene where they used the Jetman to save their lives (and Ahim gets knocked off course) instead, no attempt to make the scene minus Jetman make sense, they all just survive the huge fall and Emma and Jake are separated without explanation and it really doesn't amount to anything because Jake and Emma do a grand total of nothing before the team meets up again. We do get pointless Megaforce suits though, in which they do nothing but change straight back into Super Megaforce so yay for that... Why could Noah "sense" the lion anyway? What was up with that? Why did they not ever explain that he and ONLY he could feel the lions presence even when it was in the sky and they were on Earth? Heck, none of the characters wondered why he could either, the other characters didn't even acknowledge his ramblings about its presence. Also a little disappointed that they cut out the sound that summons the Lion. I'm pretty sure that was kept in Wild Force from Gaoranger, so why cut it from Super Megaforce when it was in Gokaiger? Credit where credit is due though, the new Wild Force fight was pretty well done, definitely a diamond in the rough. I can forgive the fact that the scenery made an abrupt change, because otherwise I think its was a good fight and I like that we get new Legendary Ranger footage. Personally though, I don't understand the choice of Wild Force for the new footage, I'd have preferred a team that wasn't already used in the episode. Mystic Force has had its big scene cut, maybe use them in some original footage sometime? Otherwise, it was a very Megaforce episode. No actual plot with proper storytelling, just Sentai footage and padding and the end result is just a whole lot of nothing. I had actual hopes for this episode, but Super Megaforce once again showed me why that is something not worth having. |
I thought it was pretty cool. It sucked not seeing Jetman or any other pre-Sentai Rangers, but other than that complaint, I really enjoyed the episode just like the rest!
(FYI, anyone who calls me a troll and insults my being a huge fan of the show I will report. That means YOU, Locke!) |
Some points I made in the podcast episode we recorded on Sunday:
- Jake is a creeper - Gia was the only one actually looking for the island (Noah was playing Angry Birds on the Legendary iPad or whatever, Emma was taking pics, and Jake was using his spyglass to creep on Gia's midriff) - Excellent original Wild Force footage - Loved the usage of old sound effects for Legendary morphs (ie: Black Dino Thunder Ranger had the Dino Thunder roar) - Sad they don't do any cool digital edits for original legendary morphs ... just a cut screen - Cheesy unnecessary dialogue killed a lot of scenes for me (they're trying to dog us, let's dragon them!) - Continually making Jake seem dumb/immature to match Gokai Green footage is becoming annoying And it was still the best episode of the season thus far. Gave it a 4. Finally felt like an anniversary episode whereas the last three didn't feel that way at all. Next week we get Jayden in the show ... and then Casey after that ... then the Silver Ranger. Show should be ramping up now. |
Well, it was definitely the best of the season so far, but that isn't saying much. They seemed to show some effort this time, but they still need to take it further. The thing that really bothered me, even though I new the episode they were editing, was the lack of Robo Knight. I thought for sure they would have taken the opportunity to build on that storyline. Troy has been standing on the beach the last three episodes pining for Robo, but now that he has a shiny red lion he doesn't need to worry about the black one. Also, why didn't Noah have info on the Red Lion on his Legendary Tablet?

And now a song.
http://www.tokunation.com/attachment...1&d=1394482038 I am the very mockery of a modern Japan pirate, Our story line is making fans of sentai want to riot. I know the script and I quote lines quite blandly. From Goseiger to Gokaiger we change it up so grandly. I'm cast by Haim Saban to be stereotypical With my band of actors we give this script a burial. About things like winning I'm teeming with a lot o' news, With many cheerful facts about nothing your kids can use. I use the phrase of super mega way too fast and light Hearing my voice is like your ears cut with a knife. In short in matters of winning I am dull as a carrot I am the very mockery of a modern Japan pirate. I know our ranger history, its missing some years But Gosei trolls us with some fluff and all our powers are right here. We try so hard to make this series look like its so cool and all, But only if youre five then you can buy our toys and have a ball. Iconic figures from past sentais are random characters; Like SPD and SPD and SPD and DaiRanger. I know the villain of the week is so recycled, But we've been doing this so long our zord is a tricycle. We don't call it a pirate ship it's super mega wizard, It's so messed up, it screws with Den-O's gizzard. These powers make no sense since we already have suits, But Gia really likes the boots and we all get to shoot. In short, when I've a smattering of showing real emotion, You'll say a better did this and it was poetry in motion. This season is a tribute and it's all starlit, But it's New Zealand and I get to play like I'm a hobbit. You can say what you want as I am the very mockery of a modern Japan pirate, I get a big fat check, so you can all be quiet. http://www.tokunation.com/attachment...1&d=1394482038 |

Maybe next week after we see what constitutes a 'tribute'. I don't think it means what Saban thinks it means. Although if they did Power Rangers The Hunger Games, I'd be all for that.
|
They really missed a trick not calling this episode 'The A-lion-ce'. Just sayin'.

I watched this episode earlier and absolutely had no reaction to it whatsoever. The new Wild Force footage was good and certainly a step in the right direction, but other than that there was nothing I liked or disliked about the episode.
And some times I feel like a "meh" reaction is the worst one a show can get. I don't feel invested enough to complain or rave about it. |
I voted average. Know why? "That's a super.. mega win!" ... Every time I hear that I gringe and feel this intense need to become violent and do horrible things to whoever decided that was a good idea.
And I know I keep telling everyone that you can't compare this to Gokaiger because it's two different things, and you have to see SMF has it's own thing? But it's to painful to anyone who's ever seen Gokaiger. Jake is not Doc. The movements don't match his personality, and neither does trying to make Noah into Joe. I'd rather they would've skipped Goseiger and used Gokaiger alone for two years just to make sure they found actors who matched better with the japanese suit work. This season is severely testing my ultra-MMPR fanoyism. |
There are obvious issues. That much we can agree on.
Seriously though, and I'm not defending it when I say this, when you watch it with out trying your damn hardest to pick holes in it there's nothing amazingly awful about SMF. Come on, you know what I mean. We all enjoying being a little too harsh on SMF sometimes :lol |
What really bothered me about this episode was how empty Animaria was. Aside from that, it was your standard fare.

Well. Everything about this is amazingly awful, and not in the fun way, and that is without going into detail as to how every frame of this cancer is utterly awful in every way. |
