ToQger Episode 5 "Beyond the Vanishing Tracks" Discussion
The tracks have vanished! Time for a detour A new Ressha appears? Car Carrier! Perhaps Miss Greeta will continue her schemes.... For any users who'd like to view this episode via live stream on Saturday feel free to head over to Taima TV. They play other random programs up until the live broadcast starts, generally marathons. Live Streams are at 5:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
Chooooo chooo time!
Well, the rest of the team might not have even been in this episode. They didn't serve much purpose. I hope Right isn't turning into another Daigo. The Car Carrier ressha was a bit weird in the robot fight and the CG cars were fairly awful. All things considered, I'd have to say this was my least favorite episode of the series thus far. Though, to be fair, I'm interested in learning what the exposition was at the end of the episode and I'm looking forward to seeing General Schwartz in action next week. |
Man! I just saw the diesel ressha on the opening!

Had a lot of fun with this episode. It's really nice to focus on Right this time, I mean we see a lot of him, but he's a fun character. And as usual the action's pretty fun and fast-paced.
Something I noticed about the Shadow Line monsters. They're really goofy, but there is a disturbingly dark undercurrent to their actions. Like in this one, it was basically enforcing famine, even on kids, and you can kind of see some of the reactions people would have in a post-apocalyptic story. |
I don't know why I get excited about this show, but I am really enjoying the storyline, even if it's kind of the same 'catch them all, MOTW' type stuff, just in a different format. I think it's in part to how all the actors play their parts. It's a little light, and a little dark, but moist in the middle. Like the perfect turkey. And the trains are gravy.
....now I'm hungry. |

I get that charm too. It's not a terribly revolutionary show or anything but for me it's just so pleasant to watch. |
Another great episode. After the heaviness of this week's Gaim this was exactly what I needed :)
Looking forward to some action from the General next week, although I do sometimes wish Sentai didn't plough through its support mecha the way it does. |
I haven't had this much fun watching a Sentai in a long time. Everything about this show is just clicking for me on every level, even the absurdly long car carrier arm. Can't wait for the next episode.

This is perhaps one of the most gratuitously toy focused sentai shows I've seen and it really hampers the experience. And this was the worst episode of the show so far, by a long mile.
I dunno, it's just watching Gobus alongside this, makes it feel inexcusable just how crap the mech stuff in this show is. Despite so much of the show focusing on the ressha the actual designs, and execution of the designs ranges from horrendously cheap, to downright awful. About the only saving grace of the mecha is it is so tacked on, despite its importance to the plot, you can skip over it without a single worry. Plus yes, it has some good characters and some stylish action, but I'm a little bit fed up of giving toku shows a pass just because I like the action. I seem to have done that with nearly every show so far, and as such most of the completed shows under my belt I actually didn't care for at all by the end. I guess the only saving grace is watching it weekly alongside Gaim, at least I can still get an action fix of sorts, as Gaim's action is pretty craptacular. Right's take down of the monster is probably the best use of the line switch so far. Really the true saving grace of this show in general though, are the villains. Although the bin shadow was lame as anything, the ridiculously dark plans week by week, in such an otherwise goofy show really is thrilling. |
GritaXSchwarz is my OTP.

I'm really digging the show so far.. This episode I think has been one of the best so far. There were some great one liners and Right teasing the monster was really funny.. Especially when he tried to eat the fish through his helmet.. Great stuff so far..
|
Maybe it's because how great Gaim is but I'm not too into this show at the moment with the last 2-3 episodes. I am interested to see next episode given Shwartz has wire-tapped the Toqgers.
|
Just my opinion, but I think ToQger balances out Gaim very nicely. Gaim is heavy and it's nice to get something light and pleasant to balance it out.
|
Good. It wasn't a horrible episode but it wasn't the best episode, and even the villian was lacking again. They still haven't come close to the Reaper from Kagura's episode.
|
This was a fun episode but it's starting to get a little bit formula. But yeah, I'll agree that an episodic show like this is exactly what Super Hero time needs to balance out Gaim.

Is ToQger or Magiranger worth going back and checking? I mean recently I've been more into Rider recently, so is it worth it.

Stuff like Schwartz studying the Tokkyugers, the team's memories, and Greta's little crush on Schwartz and how it's probably gonna end badly for the both of them. |
This weeks monster seem to be to goofy compared to the rest, put starving a town for your own gluttony is pretty horrible when you think about it. The ToQgers are pretty good at being that ray of hope that shines through the evil. Another thing is like the last two series it makes sense why the team is fighting one monster (not including footer) a week which I like, it is nice to have a in show explanation onto why they fight one strong monster a week (not so much Kyoryuger, but most battles/ plans for deboss was a win for the most part ).

I love the Go-Onger engine sounds when they launched off the Car Carrier Ressha.
|
Not a breakout episode. Probably the worst yet, and it seems to hint at a disturbing and continued focus on Right at a detriment to all other characters...
I could cope with it when they made Diago out to be the be all and end all, but Right? He's a big personality, but I want more about Hikari or someone like that for change. All in all, I enjoyed it. Light, amusing fun. I don't think Sentai has had its humour quite so well placed in recent history as it is in TQG. Very enjoyable, if surprisingly weightless for all the hints and undercurrents. I do see Toqger doing a 180 in tone eventually. Its building towards something serious, and even though the format isn't ground breaking, it's execution week on week shows little flashes of uniqueness. |
I like this episode. It puts Right in a positive light and makes me like him a bit more. Which member will get the spotlight next week I wonder?

Ok, you're in the woods camping, by a river. You're hungry, and out of food, and you don't think about catching fish. Well, you're a moron who shouldn't be camping in my book.
I would have voted poor, but the teaser to next week moved me up to okay. I will keep giving this series a chance, and hope it turns around for me like Go-onger when I gave it a chance. |
Aw, Right didn't switch with Kageru this time. :(
Ah well, no big deal because this episode was FUCKING AWESOME! Seriously Right is a great Red Ranger that I would follow into battle without a second thought and the Car Carrier train (while looking too much like a toy for my liking) is pretty damn cool. The villain this week was pretty neat and seeing Right troll him at the end with the fish was funny as hell. Can someone make a gif of that please? :lol All in all, excellent episode. Can't wait to see more of this amazing Sentai. :D |
