Super Megaforce Episode 05 - Samurai Surprise - Poll and Discussion
 

Now, how does the episode hold up? Generally speaking, Power Rangers Super Megaforce has been a super dud to a vocal portion of the fandom, while another part has embraced it for what it is.

With the cameos starting and the Silver Ranger right around the corner, does the voting trend (majority average to horrible) begin to turn? Or does Super Megaforce continue down the path of "epic facepalm"?

How will we know if it's good or bad if the episode hasn't premiered yet?

While the previews have been less then astounding with the usual atrocious dialogue and "meh" editing, it'll be interesting to see how they handle a cameo, we've heard very little about how its going to go so far and hopefully it'll involve actual plot rather then just be a scene of him being "Hey guys, here's a cool Disc, ttyl!". But man, this episode is going to be ridiculously packed, fitting in two Gokaiger episodes into one plus having a cameo for the first time. I guess cutting out all the original plot (Barizorg) leaves them with a lot of room.

It'll be interesting to see the reaction to the first MMPR/Zyu morph from some people (not on this forum) considering things turn out less then stellar for their first outing.

I'm beginning to wonder if Saban is keeping the random Sentai teams in as a shoutout to its source TV Show and to Sentai fans.

In all honesty I was liking this episode okay enough. Original footage. Good use of Sentai footage at some points. Successfully combined two episodes in one. Would've been my favorite so far, I think...then fucking Maskman suits showed up. UGH. REALLY?!

Also when is that scene of Argus beating up Troy gonna show up? Maybe when Vekar gets killed...

I'm worried about the rest of the season. And still no official name for Dairanger.

So instead of editing out Pink Flash and Yellow mask they just leave them in when they could have jest cut to Pink Timeforce and Yellow dino thunder respectively.....ya because that makes sense man what happened to creative editing in Power Rangers.

As much as I HATE the inclusion of sentai suits, what I hate more is the slapdash editing. Why bother to edit out sentai half the time? I don't get it, do all of them or none of them, it's so weird.

So as I'm watching these are my thoughts,
-still loving Vekar
-Jake like motorcycles?
-has Noah been telling the others about past teams and not showing them what they look like or something?
-i like cocky Troy, it suits him well.
-MMPR and LG morph, nice wasn't expecting either of them.
-They can be knocked out of super mega mode? well i do like that.
-Vekar is BLEEDING?! i was sure they'd cut that out! granted it's blue blood but still.
-Jayden was there then he left without a word, seems about good enough.
-MASKMAN!? WHY IS THAT HERE?! i was fine with Dairanger BUT THIS IS FROM YEARS BEFORE ZyuRanger/ MMPR! that scene should have been cut or reshot, no reason for it to still be in at all!
-at least them getting the samurai power is reasonable.
-i liked the bit at the end with Jake getting jealous, that was funny.
overall i did enjoy this episode. the Maskman powers showing up though had a huge negative impact on it for me however. just last episode they made sure not to include Jetman by making new footage, now they just through out this. nothing against Maskman but, Dairanger could at least be forgiven. there was a place for them to fit into the story if they ever tried explaining things, this is just lazy. I've been on saban's side with SMF up until now. I'm not going to stop watching, i'm just disappointed with this.

No.

Saban is leaving them in because they don't want to spend the money to shoot new footage. Plain and simple. When we can't even get proper homages to POWER RANGERS, why for the love of Zordon would they want to give proper homage to SUPER SENTAI?

We're not getting a Titanium Ranger morph.
We're not getting a Jungle Fury Spirit Rangers morph.

You know, American-only Power Rangers.

But we'll get the random-ass, "it's easier than shooting new footage" clip of a Super Sentai morph.

Aside from Saban and Tzachor being cheap and lazy, the episode was pretty good. But the whole "NEW POWERS" thing ... it's killing the season for me.

And maybe we'll get the GokaiRed/Decade Battle as a shoutout to the Kamen Rider series and its American fans.

That would be amusing. Decade as Monster of the Week.

I guess you can justify it by saying they're alien rangers.

Can I officially say that to me Super Megaforce > Gokaiger? I mean I just enjoy this more than Gokai overall and the inclusion of Sentai suits I don't care, it gonna be fun to read the reactions here in this forum.

I enjoy the inclusion of Jayden would of been cool to use hub powers but oh well, love original footage and overall excellent.

The thing as well is, the sentai suits could have been used really cooly. I mean I hate that they use them, but remember how Ben hacked his Omnitrix for more powerful aliens? Woudla been so cool if Noah tinkered with the Legendary Morpher to unlock "never before seen" modes. But instead it's as lazy executed as the behind the scenes decisions.

At least give us freaking names of these unknown powers... That would at least cutback some of the fussing.

Come to think of it...they edited out of Green's sentai-only transformations but left in the others. WHY?! All the new footage they filmed too and they couldn't film new Legendary morphs?

On a less intensely confused note, I'm surprised they left in Vekar bleeding.

And this would otherwise be my favorite episode so far...ugh.

I've tried to be objective ever since Saban started up production again. I've clearly felt that I'm no longer in the target audience and thus the content of the show shouldn't bother me too much.

But I'm sorry. This is terrible. Its a lazy, low-effort entry that confirms my fear that Saban Brands is only ever interested in producing a 20 minute toy commercial using whatever Japanese footage is already around to match the toys on shelves.

Its not "expanding the universe of Power Rangers" because we will likely never hear anything about this again. There would literally be nothing lost if the extra teams were cut out, so why not cut them out? Because Saban doesn't care. That's clearer than ever now.

Sorry if I'm rambling. Maybe I'm wrong. But as someone who grew up with Power Rangers & remembers when shows really could stand or fall on their own merits, this kind of production just pisses me off.

Das wut I said! I don't get it at all. Not just from episode to episode, but even IN the same episode, they redo fight scenes but not...all of them?

This makes me think that they left those in as a nod to sentai fans.

So Noah Morphs into Change Pegasus because he hacked a power set in the Morphing Grid that could have been but was never accessed?


That would have been great! It would have also suggested that the Morphing Grid has an unlimited number of different power sets, not just the 16 exclusive to Super Sentai.

Just think, the Kuraiger Powers, Nokaman Powers and ModRanger Powers could all technically be canon to PR!

Blitz is not the name. They were changing left and right giving an all out attack with different powers.

Plus it could also explain the use of stuff like SPD - it's always been locked in the Grid, and always will be, they just hadn't accessed it until Noah hacked into it. Then it wont properly be summoned until the future.

They left them in because they were too cheap or lazy to edit them out. Saban doesn't give a crap about Power Ranger fans, why would they care about Sentai fans?

I actually loved this one, the cheesy language, original footage, and the guest spots. too bad we couldn't get more guest episodes instead of the finale. I believe mentor ji gave the motorcycle to jayden at the end of samurai after getting a guitar from jayden, and then riding off. the only annoyance was the lazy editing of the sentai suits, but I loved that too. I just enjoyed it for what it was.

that would have been an explanation that i'd have accepted. but it does kinda hit a snag in that they have to use physical objects to morph so they would have had to explain how Noah got the actual keys.

He could have created blank "vessel keys" to download the hacked data into. Considering he could alter Jake's Power Axe in the first season, it isn't that much of a stretch to assume he can make blank keys/hack the morpher.

that... would have totally WORKED! i'm serious right now i would have entirely accepted that explanation in the episode. and what GoseiWonder said about the morphing grid, that's another thing that could have made this all fine, to me at least.
