Which PR versions do you prefer?
Was just wondering, which Power Rangers adaptations to you prefer to their sentai counterparts?
|
Super Megaforce over Gokaiger, and that's it for now.

Though aspects I do enjoy more that Gokais. |
Of the ones I've seen of both shows fully?
MMPR VS Zyuranger MMPR VS Dairanger MMPR VS Kakuranger In Space VS Megaranger Ninja Storm VS Hurricanger Megaforce VS Goseiger |
I've seen 21 seasons of Power Rangers and about 10 seasons of Super Sentai, but honestly the only season that I've seen both and I think have come close to competing was Magiranger VS Mystic Force. Both would've probably been equal had Mystic Force not awkwardly tried to adapt the family plot of Magiranger later in the series which did nothing but push all the non-Reds into the shadows.
Zyuranger is better then MMPR, although neither are excellent, Gokaiger trounces Super Megaforce, Goseiger beats Megaforce, Megaranger beats In Space, Shinkenger beats out Samurai, Dekaranger beats out SPD and Dairanger and Jetman have nothing really to compare to and Kyoryuger hasn't been adapted yet. |
The problem for me is, is I grew up with Power Rangers and my emotional investment in so many of the series means I rarely enjoy the sentai version more. Shows like Time Force are extremely dear to me, and shows like Ninja Storm, Operation Overdrive and Mystic Force have all been loads better than the episodes of the sentai counterpart I have seen.
I think the only time sentai is a clear > over Power Rangers is with neo Saban, but that really isn't so hard, is it? |
Out of the ones I've seen, I think MMPR are RPM are the only ones I can say I prefer the Power Rangers versions of. Zyuranger was a let down and Go-Onger is great, but RPM is just brilliant all around.
Wild Force/Gaoranger and Operation Overdrive/Boukenger both came out kinda similarly for me - the former being average in both versions and the latter awful. I prefer Megaforce over Goseiger too, but Super Megaforce has kinda ruined it for me now so I don't know what to think there. |

I don't like shows with multiple villain groups. I dislike Goseiger for the same reasons I don't like Boukenger.
The Warstar arc was fine, the Yuuma are was excruciatingly painful to watch and the Matrintis arc was shortlived. I love Brajira/Burdoran to death but he alone wasn't enough to save that show for shoddy villains. I appreciated the fact the team take time to develop into actual heroes, but they took far too long for me to actually get to like them in the first place. Datas sucked. Gosei Knight is overrated. The mecha just got progressively worse as it went on. Megaforce isn't amazing by any stretch, but the fact it was only 20 episodes meant it automatically got rid of (or severely reduced) half the problems I had with Goseiger meaning I could enjoy it a lot more. |
I actually agree with most of your criticisms, especially about Gosei Knight, he was tacked on and pointless. But personally I found the Brajira bit tacked on the end sucked, I would have preferred even more time spent with Matrintis as they were awesome but wasted.
I actually LOVED the Goseigers though, especially Hyde and Alata but Agri's suit actor has to be one of the coolest ever. Which is why it's such a disappointment to see those great action sequences, and suits, go to such a terrible bunch of characters captured by a terrible bunch of actors. I also loved Datas and am sad they didn't even attempt to adapt him. The mecha did get so bad as it went, though. |
Yeah, the actual Brajira finale (and his plan) kinda sucked. It was more the pay off I just enjoyed with him.
|
I completed both RPM and Go-onger, and that is probably the only show I've watched both the Sentai and PR versions. For that, I definitely prefer RPM, but Go-onger was a pretty fun show in its own right.
I very nearly finished Gekiranger (I went up to episode 40-44, somewhere there), so if I ever finish it it'll be the other one where I've watched both the Sentai and PR versions. I like Gekiranger but for some reason I managed to finish Jungle Fury but can't really bring myself to pick up Geki again. :lol It's not that I don't like it, it's just I'm not motivated for some reason. |

So please, take the berating of my opinion elsewhere. I gave it honestly and shouldn't feel the need to justify it any further than I already have. |
In Space to Megaranger.
Megaranger just did so much wrong that it's hard to vote as better than IS. In Space wasn't perfect, but it succeeded at telling a stronger story. |

But I'm also allowed offering my opinion that I personally think you're wrong that Megaforce is better. And I'm allowed offering a counter-arguement. If you felt berated somehow I'm sorry. |
Of the shows that I've seen both for.
Gokaiger > Super Mega Force Goseiger > Mega Force Timeranger < Time Force Shinkenger > Samurai |
Well I'm just going to say this.
Super Megaforce > Gokaiger. Why? Well seeing the cameos in Super Megaforce actually made me smile, and seeing them in Gokaiger did nothing to me, even though I've seen several seasons of Sentai prior. Now the original footage added I enjoy, now just because we won't get 4 ranger suits just doesn't bother me as much, since it doesn't matter. Now for some reason my interest in Sentai over these past several months has deteriorated while my interest in Kamen Rider and Ultraman have grown. |

of what I've seen from both:
Carragner > Turbo Megaranger < Space Gingaman < Lost Galaxy Gaoranger = Wild Force Hurricanger > Ninja Storm Abaranger > Dino Thunder Dekaranger < SPD Magiranger < Mystic Force Boukenger > Operation Overdrive Gekiranger < Jungle Fury Goonger = RPM - both are some of my favorite series from both franchises, but for completely different reasons. it really speaks to the writing and creativity both series brought to the table. Plus, Rose :) Shinkenger > Samurai Goseiger = Megaforce - both are pretty much blah overall with some bits sprinkled here and there Gokaiger > Super Megaforce - so far the crap fest that is neo saban continues. So overall out of sheer volume I prefer more Sentai, but when PR wins, it wins by miles. |
Of what I've seen so far, which isn't much on the Sentai side but I've seen enough of some to form an opinion I think.
Shinkenger > Samurai Goseiger > Megaforce Gokaiger >Super Megaforce Kyoryuger > Dino Charge I have hopes for Dino Charge but how could it be better than perfection?! |
The guy called Sentai has only seen four sentai shows? :lol

Here's my opinion
RPM is one of the best seasons ever and definitely beats Go-onger by a long shot. Samurai (or should I say Super Samurai) was okay it wasn't the best but okay. I never watched Shinkenger so I can't compare but then again it is an American Shinkenger so... moving on. Goseiger beats Megaforce badly. As for Super Megaforce..... ugh I rather watch Love Live: School Idol Project than this piece of nothing. Gokaiger beats Super Megafarce.... no contest. |

Rider is deffo better than sentai though if speaking generally. |

Following the trend,
Kakuranger* > MMAR Megaranger < In Space Magiranger* > Mystic Force Boukenger* > Operation Overdrive Gekiranger > Jungle Fury* Go-Onger* < RPM Shinkenger* = Samurai (They both sucked) Goseiger > Megaforce Gokaiger < Super Megaforce* (Note, series I have yet to complete are marked with an asterisk*) |

SMF is by no means "Good" (Or even "Decent"), but Gokaiger sucked too much shit for me to enjoy. |

Kamen Rider doesn't really have that. I don't remember much of Masked Rider and I missed Dragon Knight completely when it aired. So it's all new and fresh. If that makes sense. |

Even as bad as SMF can be sometimes I still watch every episode, and will watch Dino Charge next year. Until it does something I don't like that should've been like Kyroyuger in which case I'll nerdrage uncontrolably. |
Quote:
Now the reason I got into sentai is because to see how the shows were originally or how they will adapt. With rider that doesn't happen. |
