The Special was absolutely awesome!! :lol
Right from the first henshin I was hooked :lol |
Again, everything is based on impressions since I don't speak a lick of Japanese. Also, my stream dropped out a few times so I may have missed some stuff.
Well, the first third of that was just plain fun. It was nice seeing the cast of both shows really just interacting socially. I wish there was more of this kind of intermingling sometimes. Granted, the tones clash a bit here and there, but it was enjoyable to watch. But that intial 'Huh?' when everyone transformed was brilliant. I loved that. I actually liked Kagura in this, which is a first. Obviously I have no idea at the moment where this sits in canon (or not) but it seems like we got a little more of a clue into her character than even in her standalone episode. She isn't really childlike, she's really more of an actual child in some ways. Tokatti is fast becoming a standout character for me, too. Mio is still tops, hands down though. It was nice seeing Mango and Kiwi again, however briefly, too. But, seriously, Kachidoki Arms is fast becoming one of my favorite Rider forms ever. It's not only gorgeous looking, but the fighting style in it is a joy to watch. It's simple and brutal compared to some of the all over the place fight scenes we sometimes get. The ToQ-Oh fights in the background were more energetic than any proper fight scene it's really gotten so far. The launching Tank Ressha was neat, too. Had we seen that last episode? I don't really recall the mecha fights in the series proper as they're usually underwhelming. My three big disappointments for the crossover though, are as follows: 1) Where was Narutaki? Did I miss him when my stream died? I was insanely looking forward to his appearance. 2) The Oren Pierre Alfonzo teases. I was hoping for some interaction between him and the ToQger crew. He fits their series aesthetic better than most of the Gaim characters, expect perhaps Mai, for obvious reasons. Also, everything is better with Mr. Dangerous. 3) We never got to see that ugly sweater party the Micchy was obviously on his way to before he got interrupted. :lol Overall, I'd have to say it was a darned entertaining watch and I can't wait for the subs. I did come to the startling realization, though, that I actively like ToQger and I was one of it's seriously vocal critics before it premiered. |

Narutaki appeared when Right took Kouta abourd the Red Ressha. he gave him a spare Rainbow pass so he could enter. |

Don't Say No, Just GO, GO, GO FOR IT!!!

I forgot to ask. Is there no ToQger next week? They got a summer movie preview, while it looked like Gaim got a regular next time preview. There was also that animated Sumo thing that was advertised with what looked like ToQger's time slot next week.

The 7:30 stood for the time ToQGer is airing next weekend. The Sumo Anime thing is airing 6:30 am an hour before ToQGer starts. |
I wanted my damn Deniner or Gaim based ressha arms, something new! I guess they have to save those things for the movies though... More time to wait.

Which Kamen Riders are in this episode?

It was great. Fifteen cameo was cool.
|
Now to wait for subs.

I like how different the character tones were. The ToQgers were your standard happy heroes but when they were next to the Gaim crew, particular in their civilian forms, you could really see how bummed all the Gaim peeps were.
The comedic timing was excellent and I like them revisiting some jokes like the whole banana/Baron thing or people being more concerned with the conductor's hand puppet. If there's one thing I would have liked though, was some Oren interaction. |
Subs are up on Overtime.
Gotta say this was VERY impressive. Characters on both sides blended better than I would have thought. ToQgers got to be upbeat and funny, Gaim characters got to be grim; neither side lost who they were. The comedic moments were funny, the action was eyepopping, even Takatora had his moments. Hell, ToQ-Oh usually looks goofy but managed to fit right in. They debuted Kachidoki Arms using the DJ Gun + Gaim's sword weapon combo as well. That is my favorite Rider design of all time, its badass. |
That was a brilliant little crossover. Aside from Kachidoki Arms showing up and Kouta's knowledge about Yggdrasil, the tone felt just like the earlier Gaim episodes. The cast interacted well and I'm kinda sad they won't get a big opportunity to do that again.
The Narutaki cameo was glorious, and that Takatora/ToQOh bit was brilliant. There were just some really good jokes in this :lol Fifteen's cameo was great too, even if without context the Showa Riders just came off as massive douches. Its a shame its going to be months before we get a proper understanding of why there's this huge rift between the Rider groups. |
That was great fun. It certainly nice to have a lighthearted fare after all the heaviness of Gaim recently. In fact, it felt very much like a ToQger episode. :lol
Best part of the episode, Kagura screaming "All Aboard!" as they rush of to Charmant's. :D |

I loved it. I was there for ToQger and was absolutely ecstatic had how evenly divided the screentime of the two series were and the special probably had more "crossover interaction" then the last two VS movies combined. It was just a lot of fun. Although from this special, with zero knowledge on Gaim, that Mai girl seemed annoyingly useless. She did nothing but make trouble for herself while both the ToQ and Gaim cast frequently went out of her way to help her. Is she less useless in the series proper?
It was WAY better then the SHT movies. Even with this promotion, the third looks like a total snorefest too. |
With subs it was even better. I really liked the jokes especially if the more serious characters were involved. I would have never guessed that Takatora lends itself well to comedy :lol
I appreciated alot about this special that every character was wirtten completely in character. You always believed that they acted natural in these situations. |
You know who I'm gonna miss? That mole guy.

That mecha fight behind Takatora was the best part. :lol

Way cooler than any of the ToQger stuff. |
Narutaki Yes Narutaki. That man needs to be in everything. I don't care, he just does. But I was hoping for one Onore! Just one!
Loved this. Made absolutely no sense and ended up being a long ad for Heisei v Showa, but I loved it anyway! |
So considering the giant tree in Kagura's drawing, is their home town Zawame city? I mean they've never done this crossover thing before like this right in the core show have they? So I'm guessing maybe the connections between the two shows is more than they are just airing at the same time.
Even if that isn't the case this was loads of fun, I'm not huge on goofiness, but Gaim has become a very heavy serious so to see it get the chance to chuck logic to the wind and just have some fun, was a really refreshing break. Although I was a little disappointed that the action felt like it leapt out of a Gaim episode, and not a ToQ episode, which is disappointing as ToQ has much higher production values. Kamen Rider fifteen was pretty awesome though. Wow I never noticed Mai's legs, someone get this poor girl a sandwich. I've never seen someone where their legs are the same width all the way down. I'm surprised she's even able to dance and jump around. I guess DAT THIGH GAP is the reason for her weird love triangle. Jokes aside, Mai is almost as much as an awful character as Wagon is, so awkwardly drawing focus on a love triangle which has never been important in the show only further highlighted what an awful character she is. She's the reason I'm voting great and not "excellent." I guess at least Mitchy's dick routine was toned down for this, and we got to laugh at this terrible dress sense, he looks like his Mum dressed him. |

It's probably nothing, but it just seemed a weird coincidence and the focus was pretty heavy on what amounted to a shit drawing. |
