Senshi without Last Names: does it matter for you?
 

Dairanger, Timeranger, Gingaman, ToQger, they all feature heroes without last names.

My question is: do you care? Do Senshi need last names or could they just go by first names every year and you wouldn't care?

Agri didn't need a last name to be the biggest badass in Goseiger.

I actually dont care if they have last names. I usually only remember their first names anyway :lol

The Dairangers had last names.
It kinda depends on the series for me. The ToQgers probably don't remember their last names, the Goseigers aren't human, for Timeranger, maybe they don't have last names in the future, etc.
Though sometimes there's less excuses, a la Kakuranger.

Imho, last names make it sound more complete, but if there's some kind of reason why they don't have names (like with the Goseigers not being human etc.), I'm fine with both.

Wouldn't the tribe names count as second names for the Guardian Angels?

Hm, not really. Of course they could be named "Alata of the Skyick" and so forth, but they've never used that in official material or the show itself, it would sound pretty weird I guess.

Fair enough, I've personally never read the official material so I didn't realise! The show itself was never really that clear as to what an Angel really was, or how they were different to humans.

I'm cool with it as long as there's some reason for it. Angels, aliens, 365 million year old warriors, etc don't need a last name. Even the ToQGers have the excuse of probably having last names, they just can't remember.

I havn't watched any Sentai that had this, but if they were just normal modern humans that had no last names, that would annoy me.

Kakuranger might get on your nerves then.

Anyway, it doesn't really phase me. While I'd prefer them to have last names, I feel it doesn't diminish a series' quality if they don't.

I watched Dairanger in its entirety and never even noticed so I guess I'm not really bothered by it.

But... the Dairangers even say their full names in their roll call...

If there's only one name then you have less to remember haha

Unless his last name is "Heavenly Fire Star" I don't believe he does. They're just saying what they're themed after, otherwise all their last names would be way too similar and it'd be weird.

Yeah, the Dairangers definitely don't say their last names in the roll call. In fact out of the 17 or so shows I've seen the only ones I can think of that do are the Shinkengers.

Nothing wrong with not having a surname or vice versa.
Heck, look at McLuvin and how he turned out in the movie.

Eh, it depends on the season, if it's a season that has descendants of ancient Chinese warriors, beings that look humans, guardian warriors from the dinosaur age, & I guess people from the future, then who cares, now if it's set in the year the sentai is made & they have regular people & they have excuses for lack of last names, who cares, but if they don't well, it's gonna be kinda strange but I'll still watch it, there's my 2 cents :lol.

Unless their last name is plot relevant like in Timeranger or Shinkenger I honestly don't care... Though considering how I personally take the time to give each character that I create both a first and last name I'm not sure how credible my opinion is. :lol
