What is the worst part of Gaim for you?
Since we are about halfway through the show, I am going to ask the question that I know people are afraid to answer.
What do you think is the bad things about Kamen Rider Gaim? Suits, characters, story, music e.t.c. Anything goes. My biggest gripe with the show is that its starting to whittle down its plot. I expect TV shows to be changing and evolving for the better, in order to lead up to a satisfying finale with great characters all around. The plot has gone from an interesting Rider War with moral dilemmas sprinkled in with Yggdrasil throwing a few bones to basically the Kouta show with a Kaito subplot and Energy Riders providing a minor hurdle. Featuring Micchy creeping. Micchy isn't even a good creeper. he doesn't even have my emotional investment anymore. I know you can't have every character and every rider in every episode but the lack of focus a lot of these characters are not getting, is annoying. They're not even involved in the plot anymore and are pointless which pisses me off. Say what you will about Ryuki's cannon fodder riders, but at least they got their shit done and died. I just finished episode 25 and it pains me that a subplot of this show might be a Rider who's power level is worthless at this point to contribute to the main conflict, learning about shit we dealt with earlier. |
The Lack of Knuckle! Lol he's my favorite character so I want to see him more. The slow part of the beginning and some riders not using Lockseeds that they have have been my only problems with the series so far.
|
Whenever they bring up the dance team subplot... that's all I've got. :lol
|
Mai...never have I wanted to cause harm to a fictional character so much. You know how people wish they could off Kusaka? Yeah that's my feeling about Mai.
|
Lack of Knuckle, Kiwi Arms, basic Zangetsu form, and the big time lapse between Gridon and Bravo's last appearances.
|
Kouta's complete and total lack of realizing when he's being manipulated. This entire series, from start to the current point of the latest episode, he's done nothing but play in other peoples' hands. At some point I hope he will stop being a tool and start being a Kamen Rider.

...The beginning. It's rather light hearted, a pure facade. I have the same problem with Madoka but to a lesser extent.

Also, I never hated Amane-chan. |
Probably Mai's pointlessness, so far. I also agree with Kickback, but I feel like Kouta's been getting better about that.

Micchy's flirting with going dark completely, shit or get off the pot Micchy!!

There are a few things about Gaim that don't work for me:
- I'm still not into the fruit motif. It works in context of the show and the whole nature of the Invess as an invasive species, but that doesn't mean it doesn't still look ridiculous. - Mai. The dance stuff is over. It's over and it hasn't been important in months. But every time she shows up she's acting like we're still in the late 00s or early 10s, going on about how awesome and important all the dance crap is. Part of it is that Kouta and Micchy are intentionally keeping her in the dark, but it's starting to make her incredibly frustrating as a character. - The hype. Gaim is a good show - a really, really good show. In many ways it's the Rider show I've been wanting for years and I love those parts of it. That said, I don't think it's the best show in the history of the franchise and it hasn't ruined every show that comes after it. It's good, but some people are praising it as the best thing that's ever been on television ever and I'm sorry, but I don't see it. - The odd, hard to articulate or even rationalize aspect of it that kills my enthusiasm for the show when I'm not watching it and in the hour or so after I finish an episode. So yeah, there are some issues that don't work about the show for me. If I had to pick only one, though? One aspect of the show that represents Gaim at its absolute worst? Micchy's sweaters. |
Micchy's scarves.

The fact that the Jinba and Kachidoki forms barely resemble fruits any more?

Absolutely nothing, if I'm honest. Maybe I'm just easy to please.

The dancing. You cannot even call that dancing as all they are doing is walling their arms around like a lunatic and jumping back and forth. Dancing is supposed to have choreography and actually look like they are doing something. Hell, the dance off between Voltron and the Robeast from Robot Chicken is more dancing than the stuff in Gaim.
Mai is completely useless. Like Koyomi useless. Maybe even more useless. She needs to just stay in her Final Fantasy cosplay because she feels like she has a purpose then. Finally, I guess I was expecting more out of both the mythology and warring states aspects of the show. When it was revealed that the corporation was called Yggdrasil and the Forest of Helheim, it felt like it was really going to be based on Norse mythology. The series seems to have moved away from that and now gone more into Christian belief with Sagara being the snake who gave Eve the forbidden fruit. Don't get me wrong, that is still awesome, but I really was hoping for more in the way of Norse mythology. As for the Warring states stuff, when the show started, Gen said the dance battles were supposed to symbolize when a part of the country was at war. If that is the case, then that was a short war. Sure, I just said I hate the dance stuff, but the man made a big case for them when it turned out to be nothing. Unless, of course, they decided to move past that and now the Overlords are supposed to be symbolic for the foreigners now entering Japan. Either way, I was expecting a lot more out of their representation of the Sengoku period, and most of all, someone to represent Nobunaga given his importance in Japanese history. Oh, and as everyone else has said, Micchy's clothing. My god, does that kid even look at what he wears? His clothing is almost as bad as Shunpei's. |
Micchy's Hotpants.

Well the lack that they use thier own gimmick, like why don't they trade lock seeds more often? They've done that like what? Once? With Gaim going bananas.
Also seeing some of the characters not a whole lot, I wish we could see more of Knuckle, Gridon, because well I feel like a lot of the audience just forgets they exsist. When we learn something new it's always in that room at Ygrassil or during a fight scene, and the action. Sentai has better action than Gaimu does. Not to say I don't like it, but comparing it to past series it's just kind of lack luster to say the least. |
I've got a bunch of problems, but I won't go into detail as lots of people have already said them like Mai's pointlessness, the hype storm that comes before every episode, how boring it can be to watch a serialised show when you have to watch a story play out over months and not a few hours etc
My biggest issue with the show though, something said a lot less, is the crap action. That is right, I called it crap. The initial gimmick was pretty fun, but that was also, seemingly, dropped and quickly at that. I assumed the idea of a detailed base suit was that they could cheaply swap out new armours over the top of that to give each Rider a bunch of crazy forms but yeah... that never happened. And then when the action moved on to the Energy Riders and heaven above it somehow got even MORE boring. I know what kids will love, EVERYONE FIGHTING THE SAME WAY! Eurgh. |

I didn't even like the initial Arms all that much, as the special effects were weak and the choreography clunky. The Riders lacked a sense of power, and impact, but with the Driver shouting away and all the bright colours as Gaim would switch between like five forms it was distracting and varied enough to still be fun.
But now he just stands still and fires a special effect with a few colour differences to the other guy standing still using the same effect with a few colour differences. They try and use the bow like a melee weapon but none of these guys are Chalice, come on. |
The dancing subplot felt unneeded.
Some characters are underutilized, I mean seriously, WHY CAN'T WE HAVE MORE MISTAH KNUCKLEMAN!? The pacing for the beginning was a bit slow. The fact that some characters are becoming irrelevant. The fact that Hase's death is unknown to a lot of characters. Also, Kota's sister Akira. Holy shit. I hate her. Maybe it's cause of the fact that I have different values and such because I am a westerner, but Jesus Christ why would you make Kota give up on getting Money from the Inves games? Seriously, he was making a fuckload more cash than he was while doing TWO FETHING JOBS |

- I'm not very fond of the fruit design, but that's just a cosmetic thing. It's still coherent in universe though.
- The wait for a whole week when an episode ends on a cliffhanger. |

Wait... Hold on a minute... You always complain about how people think it is okay for Sentai and Kamen Rider to be 80% filler and that that is stupid. Now we have a show that has been 100% plot with no filler and you... you just don't make sense dude. Sorry, but you don't.:lolol |
I'm not sure how people think that a weekly format is a fault in the show. It's the nature of television. If anything, it's a problem with the current climate of instant gratification. An issue with waiting seven days to see the next episode isn't on the show, it's on the viewer.

I wouldn't mind the dancing if it wasn't bad, but really it's just them twirling around and moving their arms around.

Team Gaim's dancing is terrible. If the Invess Game didn't exist, I'm sure Gaim would be at the lowest. |

Oh, one other thing I dislike bout Gaim is Kaito. He started out okay, he even got character development and moments that showed he wasn't a complete tool, but then he joined up with Yggdrassil and now it seems his only defining character trait is MUH STRENGTH, which wouldn't be too irritating if it wasn't for the fact that more than half of the characters with powers can rip him a hundred new assholes without even trying, like Deemushu, Yoko, fucking Sid, Takatora, Ryoma, Kota, Redyue and Oren.
Seriously, by this point Kaito's a fucking joke. |
